  1. OK assuming the catchers he mentioned are in fact tradeable, what would it take to get them? Specifically, Lucroy, Hedges, and Zunino
  2. Man if Greinke tests the market, the Dodgers will have gotten 17.5 WAR for 70 million (and actually 2.7 more as a batter), or $4m / WAR. What a bargain.
  3. I noticed Walker has just 9 HBPs in 1918 PAs. Compared to say 20 in 1892 for Sano or 25 in 2165 PAs for Morneau (as random examples). Does Walker need to belly up to the plate?
  4. I have done a complete 180 on Hicks. Initially I thought he was too passive but after the call up it looked to me like he had found the right balance of aggressiveness and patience. His at-bats were very competitive, behind only Mauer, Dozier, and Hunter IMO. He would be my opening day CF and remain there until Buxton and/or Kepler blow the doors off of AAA pitching. I believe Arcia will be in a separate competition with Shane Robinson or some other cheap FA / veteran pickup for the corner job. An outside shot he will compete with Sano there. The Twins will not platoon Hicks nor push Buxton or Kepler to the majors unless forced to by injury which would be the right call on both accounts IMO.
  5. I think Clinton looks the most presidential and most reasonable but good god we have to find a better way to vet candidates than these CNN debates. They are a joke.
  6. Maybe not Gray. Can I change my vote? Didn't realize his K's were so pedestrian.
  7. Good read. I just hope the Twins failure at trade doesn't dissuade them trading in the future.
  8. I would counter with a player(s) already on the roster instead of Berrios (like Buxton), but if push came to shove I would hold my nose and make the deal.
  9. Yeah anyone who watched that 14 inning affair between the Rangers and Blue Jays - what a showcase of bullpen firepower. Just one 97 mph guy after the next. The Twins are lightyears behind either of those teams.
  10. Yeah that's another angle to this discussion. As little as we know about Sano's 3B glove, we know even less about his 1B glove.
  11. Hopefully he doesn't amount to anything as he's a Tiger now, the Jays traded him for Price.
  12. It does seem, odd, that the HoF committee would be so concerned about a 45 WAR player who logged his last season in 1890.
  13. Roberto Perez could be an interesting target. From Cleveland newspaper columnist Paul Hoynes: http://www.cleveland.com/tribe/index.ssf/2015/10/hey_hoynsie_16.html#incart_river
  14. MLB.TV + Unblock-us.com
  15. That's too bad. I really enjoyed hearing Bob Costas call playoff games again.
  16. Would be thrilled if the Twins landed either of those guys.
  17. "Ensure" is maybe too strong a word, but it just seems like people maybe forget how bad the DH was before Sano arrived.
  18. Agree on the first part. Yes there is a surplus of corner/DH prospects ATM but remember the first half when rotating different guys through DH produced a 103 wRC+ which was 11th in the AL. Breaking camps with Sano at DH again ensures 150 wRC+ production which would be tops or near tops in the AL.
  19. The question I keep asking myself is, if we're approaching another 2007 moment where a new GM is needed to take the Twins over the hump, why should the next guy do better/worse than Bill Smith?
  20. So, did Hughes' mechanics stay contstant this year? Or did he revert back to drop and drive?
  21. There are a few ways to skin this cat. Among others, 1. trade Arcia 2. trade Plouffe 3. trade Vargas 4. trade Sano (/runs for cover) What they shouldn't do, IMO, is play more infielders out of position.
  22. How was Poulson's command? Put another way, how many batters did he hit? Velo?
  23. Signing Feldman then flipping him in trade for Arrieta makes the Cubs look pretty damn smart. Drafting Schwarber also looks smart as most boards had him mid-teens/early 20s at draft time IIRC. I credit Ryan for the Milone trade and the Escobar trade, and for drafting Plouffe. He's good at sifting through the clearance rack but his record at identifying mid-market values is mixed. He has a clear weakness for falling into favor with suspects and then extending them instead of letting them walk or flipping them - Doumit, Hughes, Suzuki, Pelfrey, Burton. I'm not sure the Astros rebuild is something teams should model after. Can you even watch a Strohs game in Houston yet? Wholesale slash and burn came at a cost for them that maybe we haven't realized yet. Who knows how rough the franchise would be in if they had caught a few tough breaks this season or didn't win the 2nd wildcard spot.
  24. The scope of the cause should be explored but we shouldnt' lose sight of the scope of the problem either. Truth is that while tragic, death by mass shooting is still fairly rare and the casualties count is dwarfed by other things. Creating laws that change patient-doctor confidentiality or remove individual liberties would be about as wise as going to war over a single terrorist act IMO. Better to make thoughtful, precise changes that address specific problems that we have a firm grasp of.
