  1. Yeah they could option Rosario if they really didn't want to lose Arcia. Or roll with Arcia on the bench in a part time / PH role. Signing Park on its own would not necessarily push anyone out of the picture, it would only adds depth and talent.
  2. Kepler and Walker have options and they aren't ready anyway. And while DH isn't the most pressing need, assets are fungible. This signing (knock on wood) will grow the Twins talent pool, that is a good thing. Even if no trade is made this winter, Its hard to envision a casualty to this except Arcia and that is assuming a. none of Mauer/Plouffe/Sano/Park gets hurt in the spring, and b. someone actually claims Arcia if he's exposed to waivers which would be dependent on his winter/spring performance and lingering health questions. History shows us that gambles on players in nascent markets can pay off huge. Personally I can't think of a better use of the FA budget than this and I don't understand any reaction except huge kudos to the Twins for taking a smart gamble on growing their talent base.
  3. Interesting thread. I still see no rush to move Plouffe. All it would take is another 60 day DL stint by one Joe Mauer and we'd be short a bat. Having said that, if Park pans out then that would lessen the blow.
  4. Welp I'm excited. This is awesome!
  5. And the winning bid is... 12.85m Winner uknown http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2015/11/nexen-heros-accept-12-85mm-posting-fee-for-byung-ho-park.html
  6. I think the R party misses Bill Buckley and the intellectual rigor he brought to it. Today the R party is scared and takes a knee jerk position on a lot of things. I'm curious how you think the D party has changed?
  7. I don't understand people who voted Republican in the 90s and early 00s and are still so wedded to the party. Its not the same party these days.
  8. He and Gladden together for a few innings on the radio could be fun to listen to also.
  9. How awesome would it be to hit on a couple of those relievers next year. Burdi-Meyer-Jepsen-Jones-Perkins-May? Yes pls.
  10. Thanks for the video. Looked like a quality AB by Garver there.
  11. ARticle on Park and Lee Dae-ho, and the numbers on some players who have switched between KBO and NPB. http://www.koreatimesus.com/park-byung-ho-or-lee-dae-ho-which-import-should-mlb-teams-choose/
  12. Although in truth, suggesting that God aided is just as whacko. More pandering too.
  13. LMAO http://www.buzzfeed.com/natemcdermott/ben-carson-egyptian-pyramids-built-for-grain-storage-not-by#.fo3NlpM6N
  14. Is anyone else more hung up on the part where he said "scientists say aliens helped???"
  15. Looking at Jay and Duffey's first year side by side. Both players relieved, Jay in A+ where he did well and Duffey in Rk where he destroyed. Next year should tell us a lot about Jay.
  16. I can't rip Seth's list (or anyone's) because I love reading all of them. Where would Chi Wei Hu or Alexis Tapia have fit?
  17. Sounds like they are doing the math- Buxton needs AAA time, Arcia is no great shakes defensively, Arcia is out of options, they want to bring in another bat, but don't want to be cornered into trading Plouffe or Arcia to keep Sano's bat in the lineup. Seems like a good move to me.
  18. With the obvious drawback that sometimes the best pitcher would have his turn to do mop up duty and likewise, the worst pitcher due up in high leverage situations. This would theoretically be offset by having your best pitchers in more than 33 appearances per season.
  19. The big draw for the pitcher-lineup, if there is one, is that it would improve rest efficiency by eliminating the starter and reliever role, while at the same time eliminating appearances on back to back days. So the season would be a steady stream of 1-3 days rest. Coaches could (theoretically) balance workload further by shortening/lengthening pitches per appearance depending on how many days rest the guy has and how effective he's throwing before moving onto the next pitcher and doing the same with him.
  20. Would knowing your place in the lineup make up for that though? Should have a pretty good idea of when you'll probably pitch and when you'll probably rest.
  21. Here's an interesting read on the value of draft picks. http://www.hardballtimes.com/how-much-is-a-draft-pick-worth-in-2014/ Average cumulative WAR during cost-controlled years for #15-20 picks taken in 1991-2005 drafts = 4.3. However there may be a trend teams missing fewer elite talents and capturing them in the middle of the first round, due to improvements in information/scouting.
  22. IMO Saltalamacchia on a 1-2 year deal would be fine. AJ too. Or a trade for someone who could be better than all of them.
  23. I wouldn't trade Berrios either but its worth pointing out he was a # 30+ pick. And they could sign a FA on a 1-2 year deal, keep the 17th pick, spend the savings elsewhere, and not have the inflexible roster in 2-3 years. I'm not opposed to a FA solution like that. There are times I wish the Twins made bigger splashes in free agency. Signing a 30+ year old catcher to a long term contract when they already have one under contract is not one of those times.
  24. BTW can you imagine the "Twins are carrying four catchers again!" jokes if that happened.
