  1. Deja Vu all over again. Isn't a fritter another type of fried pie?
  2. This is what the average reliever looked like in 2015 (min 20 IP). Cotts was below average in every respect except one - BB%.
  3. Cotts is not a reliever on any team with WS aspirations.
  4. IMO we are well past the point of reliability in NPB stats like Maeda's put up. Barring injury, he will earn his paycheck. A solid 2-3 starter.
  5. Right it could have been anything. The fact that a white cop (was the cop even white?) pulled over a black driver, does not make it a racist thing.
  6. I read somewhere that you shouldn't order anchovies on a pizza, ever. According to the author, anchovies are such a rarely ordered topping that you're likely to get something very old/expired and because fresh anchovies smell rotten already the person making your pizza won't know the difference.
  7. Since we all agree natural >>>>>>> not natural, this should be easy. Fact: natural peanut butter is runny. Fact: creamy natural peanut butter is runnier than crunchy natural peanut butter. Fact: if you eat a creamy natural peanut butter sandwich/celery/etc you will wind up with >>>>>>>>>> peanut butter on your lap than if you had used crunchy peanut butter.
  8. (Raises hand) I'll drive a sports car everyday! Even in the snow! Apple slices + PB dip is a great snack too. Better/healthier choice than carmel.
  9. Yeah when you think about it the question is basically, is NR's career k/9 greater than or less than 9? I think most people would guess less.
  10. The question is kinda phrased in a way that you would have to guess IP if you didn't know. So that's my guess. I'm wondering who's #4 in IP?
  11. Peanut butter fudge? I'm going to pretend its just peanut butter. Crunchy >>>>>>>> Creamy. Also natural >>>>>>>> not natural. Source: daily peanut butter eater.
  12. This isn't a very sabermetric answer but I've seen Thornton meltdown against the Twins in big games for the Sox so I wouldn't want him on the roster if I had WS ambitions. edit: Thornton is also 39 and doesn't strike anyone out so there's a more sabermetric / rational objection.
  13. Yes, that is exactly my point. Was that not clear? That is why I'm so disappointed that ISIS and radical Islam dominate the conversation (not just here, but nationally). I called it a red herring earlier. If you look past the smokescreen even a little its clear that Syria is a giant knot of competing interests which could pit former allies against each other (the US and Israel, Iran and Russia, Turkey and the US) depending on how the dust settles.
  14. Honestly this is a powder keg of a situation. Russian, NATO, Turkish, Iranian, Israeli, Saudi forces all convening in the name of anti-terror. ISIS and their stupid theology should be the least of our concerns right now.
  15. Would you admit its possible that we too are capable of emphasizing the "terrorist" label when its convenient, and ignoring it when it suits our purposes? Everyone in the damn region is using ISIS as justification for intervening.
  16. Israel: chaos in Syria 'allows for different' thinking regarding Golan Heights annexation http://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/middle-east/netanyahu-suggests-chaos-in-syria-allows-for-different-thinking-regarding-golan-heights-annexation-a6738041.html

  18. I'm just annoyed that religion continues to dominate what I think should be a secular discussion. It is a red herring that hard liners on all sides want us to fixate on, we know that, and yet we continue to fixate on it. Are we ever going to have an adult discussion about the deteriorating US-Russian relations and the power play being staged in Syria? The possibility CIA-led espionage was the cause of the chaos in that country? You only have to look at the neighborhood - Iraq, Iran, Israel, to see how sideways things can go when we install illegitimate regimes in that region. Are we going down this road yet again with Syria? That is the discussion we should be having IMO.
  19. You linked an article "The Phone Islam of ISIS" which attempts to claim that the religion is not all dependent on the interpretation but instead that there are "real" and "phony" interpretations. Again, I don't know why we even need to go down that road since a. none of us is qualified and b. it is 90% moot.
  20. Why are people so eager to weigh in on the finer points of Muslim theology? Islam is 90% a red herring in all of this and none of us is really qualified to address Islam anyway methinks. From what I've been able to gather is, France and western Europe in general did a poor job assimilating these migrants - due to taking on too many at once, poor civic engineering, cultural stubbornness or whatever- and so an alienated home grown population got resentful and angry and attacked the dominant culture (aiming for the president). ISIS may have funded or supported the attackers and they seem more than happy to claim the spotlight the attacksk created, but it sounds to me like they were not the brainpower or the muscle behind any of it.
  21. No pop for me either. But back in the day, my power ranking was: 1. Cherry Coke 2. Mountain Dew 3. Dr. Pepper
  22. Yawn. Glad we passed. Get the Stone Fastball.
  23. I seriously doubt that ISIS theological goals are the ends and not the means. I'm much more inclined to think the typical member has secular goals. The Syrian who want none of the following -Assad -Russian backed puppet gov't -US backed puppet gov't is probably going to gravitate towards ISIS, being that ISIS is now the biggest domestic opposition party. I don't think they need the mass murder and mayhem to motivate them towards that group.
  24. Another good one. What if there is no break in the hot dog bun, thereby limiting the hot dog to a single slice of bread? Does the bun have to break in order to be called a sandwich? If the bun doesn't break, is it a wrap?
  25. I'd add that when you step back and look at the situation ISIS faces - Assad's army on one side, Russian white phosophorus bombs from the other side, American and French air strikes from another - that seems like a situation ripe for extremism. Esp. if you buy into the conspiracy that those foreign powers were responsible for starting the war in the first place.
