  1. Cant see keeping Milone. His fastball can't break a pane of glass
  2. I say let the kids play. Fans would much rather watch exciting rookies than old washed up vets. SPs Hughes, Gibby, May, Meyer and Rickey Santana SS Mauer 1B Vargas DH Sano 3B Arcia RF Bux CF Dozier 2B Suze C Shafe LF. If we get Torii, he hits 2nd and move everybody down a spot Eduardo and Plouffe and Shafe (if we get Torii) bench bats
  3. I don't think the Twins could trade him for Omar Bradley.
  4. If he was on the Twins today, he would be their best defensive outfielder. Except maybe for Shafe.
  5. Torii is hitting .288 currently, has over 80 RBIs and hits 2-3 on a Tiger's team that is winning the Central and leading the AL in hitting. Just what hitting metrics are you reading? Plus he is a leader in the clubhouse, something the Twins are short on, and a winner.
  6. Gardy is blowing smoke to try to save his job. But what he says publicly doesn't matter there. He is like a "made man" in the Mafia. Can't hit him. Gardy is a stubborn old dinosaur. And he can't make something out of nothing. He is just not creative enough. But there is plenty of blame to go around. The ownership has not given him good pitchers, and their Nolasco and Hughes and Pelfrey signings failed mainly (2 out of 3 anyway). Maybe Ricky can find his old stuff next year. Too much invested there not to let him try to bounce back. But look, the Twins finaly realized they needed to let the kids play. Santana and Vargas are pleasant surprises. I might add Arcia. But they should not have been surprises at all. Anyway, they showed what they can do by now. I think the Twins ought to bring up Meyer and Berrios and Bux and Sano next year out of spring training and let them play. I'd much rather watch those kids than Hammer, Cola and Parm and even Shafe. I mean, what's to lose? If you are going to lose 90 games anyay, how is letting the kids play going to hurt? Let the kids get experience. Sign Torii to a two year contract and let him teach the kids how to win. Sign a #1 pitcher and try to contend. The youthful energy and exuberrance will charge the Twins up.
  7. I've seen enough. Shafe is a player, in the 1987-1991 Twins mold. Just win baby. Hicks and Parmalee on the bases yesterday were worse than little leagers. Cut em. Let Shafe play LF. Start Bux and Sano with the big club. Let Meyer and Berrios come North too. Lets get the kids in the game. If Joe is gonna hit 270, lets bat him 7th Santana SS Suze C Bux CF Vargas DH Plouffe/Sano 3b Arcia rf Mauer 1b Doze 2b Shafe lf Work Sano in on a platoon basis. DH him or play him in LF sometimes and spell Bux with Shafe lose Parm and Cola and Nunez. Escobar util guy rotation. Hughes, May, Meyer, Gibby, Barios Nolasco to BP. Burton and Swarzak, see ya. Milone, see Burton and Swarzak
  8. extend Hughes two years. Sign Shields. He mentors young pitchers and we need that, especially with Anderson and Gardy still around. Sign Santana if we can't get Shields. Scrap Milone and Pelfrey. Promote Berrios and Meyer. They have the best stuff and gotta start in the show to get better. I am not sold on Gibson as a #2. He is more of a #4 or 5
  9. Ahhh There's the rub. They can languish and watch revenue drop, or use the fact that they have cash and go get a #1 starter. That equates to season tix renewals and at least a plus 12 - 15 game rise in the standings. Making a 75 win season possibly into a 90 win season. And a leader in the rotation makes everyone else better as well. In other words, they need to find a Jack Morris type FA. They are rare but out there. I like Lester or Max. They will come at retail prices, but you get what you pay for.Price is high retail.
  10. Everyone talks about Trevor moving to OF. Why not make Sano and outfielder right now? I could see, eventually, Sano, Bux and Rosario in a decent OF with Santana moving to SS and Escobar super utility. I know Arcia has been annointed, but he has holes in his swing and he can be stubborn. But man, he has power.OBut maybe an OF platoon in RF with Plouffe platooning with Arcia. So Santana, leadoff and SS Doze, 2b Joe, 1b Vargas DH Sano, 3B/OF Bux, CF Arcia/Plouffe RF Rosario LF Kurt C
  11. Gardy is washed up. He doesn't handle pitchers well. He can't relate to the young guys, so he fell back to his comfort zone of old retreads, Matt, Jason and Jason. It is wayyy past time for a change. That being said, we have a team that is totally devoid of leaders. That includes Joe big contract Mauer. In the past glory years we had plenty of leaders. Kirby, Rat, Danny, and Hrbek and remember Groove came on in 87 and Winfield? Rent a winner. These were all guys that found a way to win. I don't thimk the front office even looks for guys like that anymore. Too busy managing the bottom line. Do you suppose that Andy Mac leaving was because he foresaw present ownership planned on running the Twins like a business, instead of a competitive team? How Calvinesq? The guys on this current roster look at called third strikes like they've been bribed. Its as if they want someone else to do it. That is when they aren't swinging at idiot pitches and getting picked off base. Nobody makes it happen on this team, except for Kurt and Dozier. Plouffe sometimes. Every time Suze comes up with RISP, I expect something to happen. And many of you called for the Twins to trade the one guy who plays like a winner. But teaching a winning culture comes from the manager. This guy is just putting in his time. The Twins players reflect that. The game has passed Gardy by. So we should say "Bye"
  12. His pitches have rare movement, and that is part of why he has control problems. I like him and hope he finds a way to develop better control. I get a feeling sometimes he has no idea where a pitch is going.
  13. I was at that game with my boys. The enormity of the moment was lost on them.
  14. Don't trade a 300 hitting catcher when you have next to nothing else at the position. No way this happens. Suzuki should be given an extension, not firesaled for some maybe prospects
  15. The question should have been asked long ago, when Terry Francona was looking for a job, or Mike Redmond. Now I would fire the GM and Gardy and Andy, and promote Mike Cuelar as PC and Molitor as mgr. As for GM, I'd find a talented mid level guy that deserves a shot.
  16. Rickey throws meat up and in the middle of the plate. No command of the strike zone at all.
  17. Suzuki doesn't make Nolasco's pitches hang up above the belt and drift in slow motion. Rickety is throwing meat, out over the plate and he is getting clobbered. Pure and simple.
  18. wll, his last 5 outings have been better than solid
  19. Burton also gave up no hits in his prior 3 outings before friday and today.
  20. Burton has looked good his last 5 outings. He corrected something
  21. well, lets see. Today he faced three batters, struck out 2 on filthy stuff, and got the third on a weak roller/bunt. Yesterday he faced 4 batters and got em all. If you trace him back the past recent outings he looks different.
  22. Like him too, but you need to be able to spot trends and Burton is trending upwards. You know, sometimes a pitcher goes through a bad streak and then discovers how his fundamentals are off, or he is tipping pitches. Maybe Burt had corrected a flaw.
  23. "Maybe the Twins need to hire a young, Latin coach who could speak to them in a language they understand. The present situation doesn't seem to be working." They did, with Morales.
  24. I disagree completely with this article. Trading Hughes, who is the Twins best SP for a prospect that may never see the Show is insane. Trading Suzuki when Pinto is not ready is also unwise. Kurt has shown he is a leader and a money player. Those guys are rare. Trading the Hammer when he has such a good contract is iffy. With Plouffe out we need a RH power hitter. Plus he is motivated and hitting well. The Twins need to trim dead wood and bring up young arms. Burton and Corria must go, even if DFA. Sammy to the pen. Pino and May come up. Dozier is a long term answer at 2B or maybe SS. Plouffe will replace Hammer when Sano is ready. The Twins are losing contact by caring more about control and time in service for later than they are about winning now. In my mind, they have squandered away a chance to contend. They should play to win each game, not trot out a guy that is going to get hammered just because he is under contract and pitches a lot of innings. A lot of bad innings is no way to win. Rickey is a #4 starter at this point. The rotation should be Hughes, Gibby, May, Pino and Nolasco
  25. That comment is right on. The Twins need difference makers and they got one in Kurt. Mauer's going to 1B did not detract from the catching position because of him and he serves as a real spark plug for this offense. Good veteran leadership never goes out of style
