  1. He definitively should have dodged. Listening to the whole quote/interview I thought he was pretty complimentary towards Serena. Is it controversial to suggest there are physical differences between men and women?
  2. There is no need to compare, but McEnroe was explicitly asked to compare. He answered his honest opinion, but probably would have been better off just dodging the initial question.
  3. Polanco by himself is too much in my mind. But the rest of the names don't have much value.
  4. Oh man, the angst about trading Bullock. That was good stuff.
  5. He's likely the extra callup Saturday. And yes, looks like bullpen is shaking out a little. Pressly could come back too.
  6. Alas, not often you have a top 5 (1 by some measures) prospect and the best rhp prospect laying around.
  7. Don't see a Buxton demotion coming. I wouldn't be against Granite getting a look.
  8. Bellinger and Urias was the best offer. At least they dodged the Urias problem by passing on that package. Twins demanded a third piece tho.
  9. I doubt Vargas and Palka survive next offseason. If the Twins hang in the race, could see them adding a veteran corner bat and removing them quicker.
  10. Agree on the second part, but Melotakis hasn't shown he's anywhere near that. He was headed to being 26 with two full years on the 40 man not cracking the bigs with diminishing velo.
  11. I would have cut Breslow weeks ago. Rosario no, he's 3 years younger, healthy, and has his stuff intact (as fas as I know). Obviously international guys and college relievers are a different equation. Chargois is entering a dangerous time to remain on the 40 man. I don't know why they are keeping Haley either. Breslow and Haley (and Chargois to a lesser extent) show there is more fat to cut.
  12. Success/effectiveness in the majors this year is pretty much all that matters for a reliever on the 40 man when measuring the worthiness of keeping him in this scenario. Maybe some success as as a setup man next year would give minimal pause, but not much. Beyond that, a reliever on the 40 man is a pretty fungible piece. They can't clog the 40 man for long. Any other result wouldn't result in a second thought on outcome or process.
  13. Certainly worth monitoring. If he is claimed and healthy and effective in the majors this year the move would be pretty inexplicable.
  14. That's probably enough innings to want another start or two before making a move. Maybe two starts, a handful of relief appearances in AA, then up after the all star break. Give him a look before the trade deadline.
  15. This seems like a stretch, that the franchise would not use him back to back days or for more than an inning unless there was a physical issue. The velocity drop is really strong evidence.
  16. He's not *that* young. There is obviously some evaluation that suggested he wasn't going to pitch in the bigs this year or had a health issue. Otherwise he would have been up by now, at least for a brief time. Pretty hard to keep a reliever on the 40 man for multiple years if they aren't in the majors or unless they are going to be elite. I imagine the current front office wanted to keep him in the offseason to get a good look at him this year, and have now made their evaluation. If he's down 2-3 mph, as has been suggested, he is significantly worse.
  17. It was always interesting to read the analysis of the Ferguson situation from the perspective of military. (They were not impressed). But as a general rule, it is true that military vets in good standing would make better police officers. If you are able to make it through deployments in good standing, you can handle pulling over a black man on a traffic stop and not feel overly threatened.
  18. Hendriks success strikes me as on the very high end of good outcomes for Melotakis. Like most marginal prospects, this is much ado about very little. I understand the weakness of the current pen, but if he is down to 90-91 and not able to go more than an inning at a time or pitch back to back days, he wasn't coming to majors this season, at least not with much effectiveness.
  19. There are aspects of the media and reporting that have never been better than they are right now. There are podcasts, long form articles and old school reporting that are among the most intelligent things you can hear. But there is such an overwhelming amount of possibilities that it is so easy to cut off anything you don't want to hear. And there is no baseline to even criticize. I'm confident that the baseline will be found again and there will be some stabilization but it may take a while. I have another hot take. I don't think we are doomed to a continual downward spiral. But we have a ways to get from here to there. The big challenge that has not been addressed is the loss of blue collar jobs, primarily to automation. Combine job losses with overall low growth (for a decade and half), the collapse of (non college town) rural America and the overall collapsing of previously stable institutions, you are going to have some instability. This instability is combined with the fact that for humanity as a whole, life has never been better.
  20. Rodriguez is going to get some run in a major league bullpen at some point. Good for him. Really think they should put Romero in the pen for the rest of the season. Seems he could be a difference maker down the stretch.
  21. I thought he had more of a setback. Falvey didn't sound too optimistic on his interview in Sunday. Would be good news.
  22. Probably now more likely than not that he is brought back next year. That wasn't the case a couple weeks ago.
  23. Might not be a terrible idea to give Kepler a little break either, especially if he's not 100%.
  24. Or maybe go back down to 12 pitchers.
  25. Should leave enough for Rodriguez.
