Hadn't seen that he cleared. Indeed we might get a little too worked up about marginal relievers on the 40 man. Still would dfa Breslow. Still can for Reed or Curtiss I suppose.
I'm joking too. I don't really buy this injury either. It was untenable to keep him on the roster. Not sure why they went dl instead of dfa, maybe wanted to give him a "rehab" chance.
It certainly would be fun if they called up Romero for the spot start. He's not ready to go every 5 days in the bigs, but could be sneaky in one start. Gives a preview of a potential bullpen callup later in the year too. If not him, I'd go Gee.
The injury delayed his start and put him behind physically and probably a little performance wise. And he threw 140 innings last year, that would put him on pace for 175ish this year. Skip a start or two and he easily makes it through September. So I don't really see any benefit.
Correct. The initial question to McEnroe was pointless. The reaction has been equally enlightening. The commentary linked here is correct, but had to stretch so far to bring in the McEnroe comments.
In addition to empathy, a general sense of fairness and benefit of the doubt regarding motives for those you disagree with. Political rhetoric is constantly at an 11.
The bigger issue is Gonsalves missed 6-7 weeks with his injury. Without that, he would already be in AAA knocking on the door. I bet they slow play him the rest of the year. His numbers back up a conservative approach at the moment, but he could push it soon with several more dominant starts in a row.
Really crazy to think they can contribute this year. I don't think putting Romero in the bullpen to end the year, partially to control innings, and then starting him in the rotation next spring is that bad of an idea. Gives him a good taste of the bigs, and then allows him to get back in the minors to work on it. The potential problem would be starting him in the bullpen next season and then trying to move him back to the rotation mid-season.
7-9 is probably even too high. I could see Santana, Berrios, Gibson, Legit FA, Lesser FA/Minor League Guy, Hughes, May, Mejia at least breaking camp ahead of them on the depth chart.
So looks like as of now they pretty much nailed their pool. That's an acceptable outcome as is, but would be really good if they dip into the penalty money to sign one or two more. Like to see a good plan executed quickly and efficiently.
In other rankings Marte is 3 or 4. Interesting on the spread. Probably another example that after the elite guys (in this case 2 or them) rankings are relatively pointless.
I reread the commentary and I think it is a little unfair to McEnroe. The Tarasi statements have little to do with what McEnroe said about Serena. I don't have any time for the "plays like a man" crowd either. But that's not what McEnroe has said about Serena either. The commentary is right on, but tries to force McEnroes comments into something they are not to prove a larger correct point. McEnroe might be looking for controversy, I think it is more likely he's just stubborn.
Had been an evergreen post for over a month now, but is especially apparent from this game. They probably need to recall Pressly or another pitcher and other than Belisle everyone else should stay.
