  1. I don't have a whole package, but it starts with one of Hicks, Berrios or May.
  2. That's not necessarily the A's profile anymore. Santana for a reliever is very possible if a team wants to take a shot on him.
  3. The "absurdly" was a little hyperbole in your honor, but this is certainly low on Norris. Especially because of the Padres lack of need for a corner OF.
  4. Zobrist does. I think if you subtract a reliever from the Twins and Zobrist from the A's you probably have a trade, maybe Santana straight up. I'm not sure if the upgrade Zobrist provides is worth the cost it will take.
  5. That is part of the fun of being on an anonymous message board right? And yes, the one proposal made in the article is unfortunate.
  6. I hate to take a side path on the fourth thread dedicated to trading for a catching upgrade, but I have a question. Do you think the Twins hype prospects more than national media outlets do? Or even local outlets like our own Seth Stohs? I don't think teams actually hype their prospects anymore, other outlets do all that work for them. If anything, teams try to downplay a little bit - aside from the top guys who get talked about all the time. In my mind, aside from overrating our own prospects relative to what they can get in a trade - the other issue we run into all the time on this board is the assumption that marginal prospects can come on to the team and do just as well (if not substantially better) than players that are already here.
  7. Agree. This doesn't get it done. I would say absurdly cheap, not expensive.
  8. I think a couple of decent postseason performances (and especially a title) would cancel out a lot of the negativity the last 4 years built up in the minds of voters.
  9. Clearly we need a sarcasm button...
  10. And the current lefty specialist in the majors has (arguably) even better stats against lefties. Twins certianly don't need a LOOGY.
  11. Add a bullpen arm or two and see if the young bats can carry you. There is plenty of time next year to see if the marginal bullpen arms in the minors have a future.
  12. By "predicament" do you mean not in playoff contention? Winning games is really screwing up the rebuild.
  13. A high school kid playing his first full season should expect some dips. He seems to be right where he needs to be. Back half of top 100 lists.
  14. For most of them probably. Take some control out of the less than scrupulous guys who funnel talent.
  15. In my mind it is not the signing bonuses that are the problem (they should be higher both domestically and internationally), it is the absolute shadiness (to put it kindly) of the whole market. I think a draft could remedy some of that.
  16. I'm pretty apathetic about the All Star game, but that'll inspire me to vote for Dozier.
  17. You think Walker gets a Sept callup? Twins don't call up prospects in Sept to sit on the bench and there seems to be way too many corner bats ahead of him in the majors/AAA right now. Barring a couple injuries, Kepler doesn't get a call either.
  18. I am happy with him too. If they like him go for it, then back fill the quantity with some of the lower cost guys. I generally like the mixes of strategy they have used the best several years. Sometimes going big, sometimes lots of quantity, sometimes more of a mix.
  19. Probably better to think of him as a compiler and not a scout when it comes to international players. No chance he gets enough looks at an individual player for a meaningful scouting report, but does have contacts throughout the game that feed him information, and enough of them that he shouldn't be overly influenced by self-serving contacts. The issue with international rankings is not that they are bad, but that they are 16. Huge changes between then and the majors and lots of opportunities for later bloomers. Another good reason to go for quantity.
  20. My (probably naive) hope is that the Twins went a little big on Javier in order to establish relationships that will pay dividends next year. From what I have read Atlanta and Philly are positioning themselves to go big next year, no reason the Twins can't join them. Have heard rumblings, but I'll believe it when it happens.
  21. I wonder if a team would get creative with a 6 man rotation to have a start and then have that same starter available for 1-2 innings on day 4, which would usually be a throw day. Could potentially extract additional value from the arms and still give them plenty of rest.
  22. It seems the Twins have spread their money around in a variety of different ways since the caps were installed. I generally like the plan of going for quantity over quality, but if they really like Javier, why not?
