  1. If I may piggyback on this. I also am skeptical of some of the newer metrics and how quickly that are accepted. This is especially true when they try to quantify the subjective rather than the objective. I would use pitch f/x as a scouting enhancement but would hesitate to use it as an objective measurement tool. And perhaps more to the relevant point, it was pretty clear Doumit was a mediocre (or worse) defender with or without this study.
  2. Not that I want to go down that road again, but relative to a good chunk of the other free agent options, he was a success.
  3. Any predictions? I say he gets DFAed after 7 starts next year. May 10.
  4. Or stay on the roster and contribute to the start of the turnaround next year.
  5. Also Santana had basically plus plus command of all his pitches. This is about as informative as all the Greg Maddux comps we hear.
  6. I prefer confidence to arrogance. That should be a good thing going forward. If he can get his k rate to 7-8 per 9 he will be a solid 2-3 starter. I am hesitant to make any conclusions until the beginning of next season.
  7. I don't think anyone is against signing free agents that produce close to their contracts. I'm sure you are aware of recent free agent classes. I'm convinced you are criticizing the Twins for not signing players that don't actually exist. Theoretically sure, the Twins should have guaranteed more than the $50 mil they did over the past two years but there are problems with players that were actually available and how they fit on a rebuilding roster.
  8. I think you are underestimating Dozier quite a bit or overstating greatly what a replacable level 2B looks like.
  9. Do you honestly believe this? And if so, how in the world do you possibly support this franchise?
  10. I would agree with this in an ideal world. Here is a link of available free agents. I don't know if there is anything that really fits your criteria. There certainly aren't any SSs and I wouldn't trust any of the 1Bs for more than a year, maybe Morales but I'm still skeptical. Pitchers are a little dicey, but there is some depth in second tier guys. 2014 MLB Free Agents: MLB Rumors - MLBTradeRumors.com
  11. Both? But I actually agree it was more for local fans than prospective free agents. Ryan can have plenty of private conversations with agents where the actually truth is probably conveyed.
  12. Doogie tweets: He adds that they are working on a couple of guys, so the remaining money will be spread out over multiple players.
  13. Obviously, but I would wager almost every gm would say they go into the season trying to build a team that can make it to the playoffs.
  14. Then why not say that instead of using false examples? Surely you don't need to overstate the current Twins situation.
  15. I'll concede I should have said "really good" instead of "great".
  16. I am probably in the minority but I think performance over a 162 game season matters much more and is more reflective than the playoffs.
  17. I don't think he was an option because he isn't a cf. Jokin and I had discussed this before.
  18. S - Twins had one losing record in a decade. I would take on the Yankees, Boston and St. Louis over them on that timeframe. If you don't see that as a great run you are set up for a lifetime of baseball disappointment.
  19. Cardinals are a great franchise.
  20. That was a couple years ago and he was pretty poor at it then. But yes he is a functional mlb player so he could hypothetically do it.
  21. They have mixed well. Cardinals have a great system now but it has had its ups and downs. It was one of the worst a couple of years ago and the team coincidentally had a lull. I think many grand sweeping conclusions get drawn from a couple of years of data and all the answers can be found that way. There needs to be a little more context in some of these posts. Baseball franchise arcs take time, people are way too reactionary positively and negatively to short amounts of time. The Twins suck right now but they did just come off a great decade. Rebuilds surely take time. We as fans better hope this wave emerges as it should or getting rid of Ryan will be the least of our worries regarding this franchise.
  22. Personally I want Gardy replaced after this season and Ryan gone after 2014 if there is not clear progress with the mlb team. I'm pretty sure Ryan will resign if 2014 is another bad year, so win-win, right?
  23. I would grant Stanton and Fernandez for Miami, but there isn't a player on Houston's mlb roster over Arcia.
  24. I can only imagine how offended you are as a season ticket holder.
