  1. I would bet the Twins agree but couldn't trade him. Probably too valuable to release.
  2. Probably not a long limb. He is probably the only one who has a good chance.
  3. Imagine how good he would be if he got called up in 2012.
  4. Attempting to Explain the Unexplainable | FanGraphs Baseball Not sure if people saw this, but I thought it was an interesting way to look at pitch framing, though the article is more about why umpires miss calls.
  5. I personally blame bad pitch framing.
  6. Doing things ptimarily to reward season ticket holders is surefire way to get into trouble. They should call him up if he is ready because he is a beast and will help the team win.
  7. It would probably take two years in the minors to train as a RH hitter against RH pitcher. That ship has probably sailed.
  8. Sano and Machado are really hard to compare. Different types of players and franchises in much different positions. Baltimore desperately needed a 3b for a playoff push while the Twins are in a position to be patient developmentally.
  9. He is a perfectly fine stop gap and innings eater but there are now better options to replace him.
  10. One other thought is that perhaps Doumit should take his time coming back. I'm fine with him being on the team atthe beginning of next year but the Twins probably don't need him, Morneau and Willingham in the lineup at the same time anymore this season. Parmelee will be back soon and giving Pinto a look might be ok.
  11. Mauer is far from the only great player on a lousy team. I suspect if the future didn't hold as much promise there would be more rumblings of a trade.
  12. Agree on all fronts but he reported being nauseous on the flight Sunday after being jarred in the game. Not reporting that is dangerous.
  13. Sept callups are overrated. It would have made minimal difference for Hicks if even that. A promotion for the AAA playoffs could be beneficial in actually playing for something instead of this current death march. A Sano Sept callup would br almost entirely to hold on to some interest and build optimism for next year. If he scuffles badly it would be counterproductive for him and the franchise. I like the suggestion of waiting for a new manager and fresh start.
  14. I doubt. These injuries happen because throwing a ball is so unnatural. Sports medicine is quite advanced and quite good at diagnosis so injuries are fixed quicker and more effectively with a much higher probability of effective return. So pitchers get surgery instead of trying to pitch with an injury.
  15. Makes the roster move easy. Probably not good that he hid the injury for three days.
  16. I don't want to take your snark too seriously, but do you actually think the Twins have TJ surgery at a higher rate than the average franchise?
  17. It's also possible ownership pushed it as hard as Moore if not moreso.
  18. The workload is the huge factor imo. The pen has solid numbers despite the large amount of innings soaked up by the 6-7-8 ranked guys. A competent rotation would better shield this underbelly and the numbers would look even better.
  19. I agree fully with what the other posters said in defense of this trade, I thought it was a worthwhile risk for Moore to take. The other elephant in the room for Moore is that if the team didn't take a step forward this year he won't have to worry about two years from now. It was fortunate for the Royals that the interest of the team and the interest of Moore matched up. It was time for them to take that risk. And to circle back to the Twins, it is fortunate that Ryan doesn't feel similar insecurity this season. It is quite reasonable to disagree with many of his moves, but there should be confidence that what he is doing is in his opinion for the best long term interest of the franchise. A GM with less security might have flipped a prospect or two to chase a few more meaningless wins while causing damage to the long term outlook of the franchise.
  20. I still think one of these guys have to be signed. I personally have given Ryan a pass for this past offseason but this tier is the group to strike. Out of that list I would break it down as follows: Burnett won't sign here - he'll go to a more competitive team Lewis just missed the whole year, Floyd pretty close Lincecum will be very overpaid, I don't want the Twins to get in on that E Santana will be extremely overpaid, I wouldn't trust him - Jimenez might get there Haren and Johnson are the obvious injury risks Feldman, Hughes, Nolasco, Vargas seem to be in the sweat spot for the Twins. Do any of those four do anything for anyone? I would roll the dice with Hughes personally. Lewis, Floyd, Haren, Johnson could be intriguing if the price is right
  21. Since no one is asking, Thorpe was signed for $500k last year coming out of Australia. Something to consider when we think about some of the signings the Twins will ultimately make this year, not always the 7 figure guys.
  22. Maybe they consider things other than errors.
  23. Worley is not a free agent after the year. It has to do with options - a player can spend up to three seasons on the 40 man roster and in the minor leagues. All of those players will remain with the organization until they are taken off the 40 man. A good chance Hermsen and possibly one or two other guys on that list get taken off the 40 man in the offseason.
