  1. I think outside blood is overrated. What is most needed is fresh thinking, openness to new ideas, and new energy. Molitor seems he can provide that. And I think at the very least there will be some new coaches which would hit the quota of outside thinking.
  2. They were tempered for some of us. To me it will be health and command for him to make the rotation, development of a changeup to be a top of the rotation guy. Shows the high risk in pitching.
  3. Do you have any sense of how this would compare to other orgs? I suspect that high velocity but not a ton of strikeouts isn't unique to the Twins. What we saw before was a fewer high velocity options for the Twins relative to other orgs so none ever made it, while many of those types would wash out in other orgs. Listening to BA podcasts they seem to imply that 90-95 is almost "normal", even for relievers of low a teams. So velocity is not as much of a separator any more, it is command and secondary pitches.
  4. Yes, but the process will go quickly. I think interviews will be done by the end of next week.
  5. I didn't mean to misrepresent that way, I thought you said 17% was the average over the course of the study, not the lowest number that was achieved only once. But the difference between 17 and say 25 doesn't strike me as all that massive either.
  6. He does seem the logical choice on many fronts. HOFer, obvious baseball acumen, local guy that will provide some excitement for fanbase, worked in development for several years, personal vouching by key players, enough coaching experience but doesn't really carry the stink of 4 years of this. Can't see an internal candidate beating him out, and it would take an external guy to blow away Ryan to pass on Molitor in my opinion.
  7. I also think that payroll conversations without some context loses some value. To take straight payroll and compare that to winning percentage does lose where a team in on the competitive vs. rebuild arc of franchise cycles. It is not especially surprising that teams with lower payrolls will have lower winning percentages because lower payrolls can also correlate with rebuilding and playing younger (and thus cheaper) players. I would imagine a deeper dive into the context of payroll size would explain away a not insignificant amount of the 17% found in that study.
  8. Not sure why my initial response didn't show up. Just that I would be careful with this accusation. People disagreeing with you does not make them condescending. It was an informative and spirited conversation that I thought shed a lot of light on multiple points of view. Why ruin that with accusations like this?
  9. That is why I said if he wants the job and doesn't get it he wouldn't be back as bench coach. If he doesn't want the job then yes he could certainly return in that role. I still think it is more likely in this scenario that he bumps back up to the front office in some role.
  10. What do people think of Jeremy Hellickson? I imagine he is available and could be had for a very reasonable price. Perhaps a bounceback candidate? 2 years of arb left.
  11. If the Twins cut ties with Duensing, Swarzak and Burton like they should, I think Burdi has a legit chance to break camp with the Twins. No reason to hold him down.
  12. Great writeup on all 50, I really enjoyed reading it. I would flip Stewart and Meyer based primarily on closeness to majors, but otherwise I completely agree on the top 8. And I would have Burdi 9 and Thorpe 10. I share the skepticism on Rogers. I think he'll make the majors at some point (possibly middle of next year), but I agree with the Duensing comp, that seems about right. Main concern is the declining k/9 rate. I would put several people ahead of him, but I would also acknowledge that Rogers will provide more mlb value than many of the people I would put ahead. That said, I like people following their hunch and hope he blows past my expectations.
  13. Probably also means that revenue generated from stadiums is becoming a smaller percentage of a team's revenue every year. Not a good trend for the Twins considering they will always have one of the smaller TV deals.
  14. I would probably start with corporate sponsors and season ticket holders providing the most pressure.
  15. I would buy as high as #8, but probably a year early on the top 5. I want to see something in full season ball before I jump completely on the bandwagon.
  16. I would too only if it limits the ability to add or retain talent. I don't think they have hit that point yet. I like "context specific".
  17. Hate seems like such a strong word. I wouldn't have much problem trading anyone on that list, I just don't think you would get much in return for anyone outside of Arcia and Plouffe, perhaps a little for Escobar Suzuki, Fien, Rosario, Harrison, Duffey aren't getting you much of anything. Fien might even be non-tendered.
  18. I'll keep an open mind and read what Seth says, but he wouldn't make my top 20.
  19. This is derailing the thread and been discussed often on this forum, but again, cash in for what? And they did ultimately get something for Willingham.
  20. I would trade Sano, Meyer and two of the guys you mentioned for Stanton IF you could lock down an extension. Wouldn't hesitate. The catch of course is that there is some disagreement about what that extension might look like, I think it's going to be huge.
  21. I would say the backlash is entirely through sucking. Getting hung up on payroll and parsing quotes is a projection of that.
  22. Unless there was a significant difference in W-L I don't believe your second line at all. Fans don't care about payroll, they care about record.
  23. I highly, highly doubt this. All we would have heard is "two years into a new stadium and we are doing a rebuild and cutting payroll!" It would have made no difference. Wins are all that matter. Since a large chunk of savvy fans here are more caught up with parsing quotes instead of focusing on the big picture moves that are happening right in front of their faces, I would have much less confidence for the less savvy fans.
