  1. Hears that too, recommended listening. Great management from Falvey. Praise those under you when things are going well, inspire an ethos of collaboration overall. I was a little skeptical when first hired and hos offseason wasn't the most inspiring, but there is a lot to like with him. Big, potentially franchise altering decisions coming over the next several months.

I don't see Duffey being the high leverage fireman that Miller is (Pressly probably has that role), but he could absolutely be a guy who comes in at the start of an inning and goes multiple innings every 2-3 days. The kind of guy analysts have been asking for for years.

He'll get a chance at some point when others falter or the bullpen is used heavily for a stretch, but he's low on the depth chart and rightfully so. It's not even short vs long term, 3 guys ahead of him (Pressly, Duffey, Rogers) are basically the same age.

What will likely really hurt the relievers is if starters get into trouble and the innings need to expand. I'm still very concerned about the rotation, and not especially confident in the reinforcements. That will trickle down to the rest of the staff. But if Duffey stays in the pen, I think there is enough there, along with some potential reinforcements, to keep the unit solid all year. The offense can/should get better. Defense looks like it's going to be very solid. This is a formula for a team that should remain representative. If they can keep the the starting pitching patched together and maybe get unexpected contributions from the young guys, no reason they can't remain in the hunt.
  5. I'm concerned about everyone not named Santana in the rotation. Mejia most of all.
  6. Did you expect a bigger role? Breaking camp he was only ahead of Haley. He'll get his chances.
  7. I thought a gave a pretty good reason, backfills the other relievers into other roles (including roles you just advocated) and strengthens the bullpen as a whole. There were 3-4 of them. Holland, Casilla, Feliz...
  8. I agree with this usage of Kintzler, but I wouldn't put Duffey as the closer. He has value as a multi-inning guy. In my mind, this is why signing Belisle instead of a closer was a mistake. Everyone would have fit so well around a new closer, really maximized roles.
  9. I don't think he goes back to AAA. If he needs to start they'll stretch him out in the bigs.
  10. I think he has pretty much been saving the best reliever (Pressly) for the toughest situations and counted on vets to get through clean innings. I wonder if he is a little hesitant to bring Duffey in the middle of an inning too. I like how he used him on Friday.
  11. Saying a starter should go another inning is always dicey. Never sure what Santana has in the tank.
  12. He'll get a chance at some point I suspect, but he's low in the rankings of the pen right now. I don't worry too much how a manager uses their 6th or 7th reliever, other than he got through a game they lost without using the top guys.
  13. Don't think that's right. I would guess it's pitchers putting something on their hands to get better grips of the ball.
  14. Spieth can still win this...
  15. Ask and you shall receive.
  16. Moving to 7th, seems like a reasonable move for the immediate future. Get him going and move him back.
  17. The Twins have the best record in baseball.
  18. I missed most of the game. I assume he looked a lot worse than his numbers?
  19. I read the article. I was a little distracted but thought the data showed that drafted taller pitchers are more likely to make the bigs, but once there there was no difference in performance/durability between tall and short. The authors theory is that taller pitchers get more chances because they are tall. I would suspect they actually are better and (especially) more durable and thus more likely to make it to the majors. Once players get to the bigs, it is a wash on performance. Or did I misread the data?
  20. Are we reading that study correctly? Best I can tell is thar taller pitchers are more likely to make the majors. But once in the majors there is no difference between tall and short. That doesn't support that there is no difference to me. It means that taller pitchers ARE more likely to make it, and once pitchers have been properly weeded out in the minors there should be no difference. But a higher percentage of tall pitchers making it strikes me as a big deal. Could be societal reasons or (more likely) durability and performance.
  21. Obviously Yadier Molina was the more high profile example. I suspect it is coming from the pitcher side. Cold out there, need some extra grip on the pitches. One of the unwritten rules.
  22. Good to see plenty of Dems and much of the mainstream media jump on the war train.
  23. I suspect the process is a little more thorough than scouting a stat line. And I realize 6-1 RHP make it, but the odds are longer.
  24. I do like the unintentional comedy in your first sentence.
