    It's a shame, I had some hope that Gibson would take a little step forward this year, but probably going to have to accept he is what he is, a backend starter. Has some value while he is still relatively cheap, but there will be too many maddening starts like this.

    This shows up in pitch type tracking too. A lot more of this stuff is handcrammed than you would think.

    That's fair. If he is that unique and good, he might get a different type of extension. Though he's probably going to be a pitcher only. It would be obvious manipulation if he played 1 year, then had a 5 year, $100mil extension, for instance.

    His first contract will be a minor league contract with a (limited) bonus. Will keep him controllable for 6 years, 3 pre-arb and 3 arb years. An attempted workaround would be obvious, if he is extended for dollar amounts that would far exceed the value of those years for a similar player.

    No far fetched at all. There is a reason Duffey was a successful college reliever. I do wonder if that is the best use of his skillset though. Multiple inning guys working the 6-8th might bring more to the table.

    JBJ first had an acceptable season his 24-25 year old season, broke out last year at 25-26. It might just take Buxton that much time. Buxton might be a victim have his other tools being so loud, got him to the bigs too quick.

    Plus the other difference, if Buxton does reach this level of offense, is he would bring a much better glove and presumably more value on the basepaths. When I got (way too) optimistic about Buxton, I thought he should hit 120-130 wRC+ seasons with the bat. That is what JBJ is starting to reach.

    I think they'll be fine. Dems will win Georgia and Montana, and are well set up for a massive House gain. Flipping a +27 seat (either way) is virtually impossible.

    I would spend that money on Holland on a heartbeat if it meant that kind of performance based on the option being activated.

    There was chatter about that, the response that the league office would crack down hard on an agreement that involved a quick extension.

    An international guy who signs before age 25 can only sign a minor league contract. That's the point of the caps. Also why it was panned when the cba was signed.

    Feliz would have been my last option of those mentioned. But the other options weren't great, unless Holland is actually legitimately back.

    So Duffey as closer? Otherwise there's really not another option other than Kintzler, and Duffey as closer strikes me as even a worse use of his skillset.

    fip is what happened, but also meaningless to the outcome of a baseball game since it doesn't measure outs or runs. I'm pretty sure most analysts have moved on from xfip. The "x" adjustment had shown to be a bad assumption.
