  1. I'll certainly agree any of them would be better 40 man usage than Tonkin.
  2. Kepler and Polanco are the types that are most likely to agree to the early extensions. The elite guys are the ones you need to open the pocketbook for.
  3. They spent $7mil more on (40 man) contracts last year than they did in Smith's last year. The myth that won't quit.
  4. Anyone other than Blaine Parker worth it?
  5. A warm body reliever with a little upside making the minimum isn't a terrible use of the roster spot. Would obviously be significantly better if there were options involved. I thought about Wimmers, but mostly because I thought Haley was a zero and they would need a more traditional long man.
  6. Choice is between cutting him and giving him another chance to make it work. I'd guess the new management wanted to give him one more crack. I doubt he lasts much longer.
  7. It's more that he's best suited for a role that doesn't exist in reality. It's not like he never got one inning stints to prove himself in low leverage situations.
  8. If the Twins play this right, they can acquire someone as good as Sano who they can then trade a couple years into his career.
  9. I understand the complaint, it's always been nonsense. The Twins haven't exactly had a good pen at any point of Tonkin's career. If he was taking care of his business he would have been moved into a bigger role. Any reliever is going to be better if they can go short outings against same handed batters, but that's not always realistic bullpen construction. Tonkin has hung around because the team sees something, but he has never performed at a high level in any type of stint.
  10. This is pretty small beer compared to some of the roster manipulation seen from the Dodgers, Rays and some other teams. And it's going to happen even more with the 10 day dl. There would probably be some benefit in cleaning it up, but as long as it's there, good to see the Twins finally take a little advantage.
  11. Santiago will be back for his next start, this is a temporary call up. And Tepesch is already on the 25 man.
  12. Chargois/Burdi/Melotakis aren't quite there, but they're close.
  13. Appropriate response. His confidence has mostly been destroyed by not being that good, not by being primarily used in low leverage situations.
  14. Finally someone's being realistic. Might be able to knock down some of the FA years annual value for a little more upfront money, but I'd do it either way.
  15. Just eliminate errors completely. Might skew some stats, but would have a very minimal impact on predictive stats. While they're at it, dump the no PA for a sacrifice and give RBIs when you hit into double plays (Not that batting average or RBI are the most significant of stats).
  16. Very skeptical Sano takes that deal.
  17. Seriously. When that babip normalizes he'll be rolling with a wRC+ over 300.
  18. And I don't mean to minimize his loss. Tough situation for him.
  19. You know, I'm not sure. It's not the DL, but it's certainly possible.
  20. Tweet from LEN3: Looks like the Twins will get a free arm (or bat) for a couple days. Who is even worth calling up at this point? Boshers can't be called up. Berrios won't be ready to pitch in time. Chargois has been meh in his 2 games. Mejia should start. Melotakis?
  21. I would be more inclined to enshrine the doctor who came up with the surgery than the first player to benefit from it, but that's a good argument.
  22. Fair enough. Seems a stretch to call golf a sport that is actively officiated.
  23. I very much enjoy playing and watching golf, but not sure a comparison to baseball makes much sense on this issue. The difference between the games is so vast.
