  1. I think you can scheme up some ways to support a weak D-line, but the lack of talent this group has is going to cap the ceiling on that.
  2. We'll see? I mean, who has this front office developed? They traded for Hockenson and the results so far are mixed. Ingram is mixed. The rest of the o-line was already in place. Ditto Jefferson. They have largely dropped the ball at RB. Addison looks like a talent but there are some character challenges that make that situation murky. The special teams have been...ok? Sounds like this kicker is the real deal but I'm not sure I can put much on that either. Every effective defensive player preceded them except Phillips. I'm not trying to drum this front office out. I think they're working under a "compete" mandate from ownership and doing their best to reset the bad contract situation they had, add talent for the future, and rebuild on the fly. I think they've done some interesting things with that weird mandate, but so far I can't argue they've developed and drafted well. These next two years are huge...we need to start seeing an ability to get young players and make them better.
  3. They have some intriguing talent for sure. But nick's right that they haven't drafted or developed much of anything other than Pace. It might be better that we keep adding elite talents by trading picks.
  4. Agreed, we need to see more returns than just Pace. That first draft was a disaster.
  5. We'd have won this game if Rocco wasn't such an idiot about pitcher usage. Think about how much better our record would be if the previous 126 games were done exactly how some toxic game thread knob would've recommended: We pitch Ober-Alcala-Jax-Duran every game. I mean...duh. You worry about winning today. Tomorrow is Tomorrow. We all know that good management is done by completely disregarding all future outcomes and recklessly throwing everything at random games in August. Ruining their careers? Worry about today. Arm fatigue? Throw with your other arm snowflake, we're winning today dammit! What if they're having an off day? Simple: have them all warmed up at all times throughout the game so that if anything bad goes wrong you instantly replace them. Like, Ober throws a ball? Go get one of the other three. Jax has his arm fall off due to overuse? Cool, Duran has been throwing since the night before so he'd be warm and ready to go. It's so simple and yet Rocco can't figure it out. Moron.
  6. It explains the trade deadline last year through now though....
  7. Not quite - 53-3 according to Park. But I'm sure that won't get in the way of complaining.
  8. Well, what's the simplest explanation? We KNOW that this FO is willing to be aggressive, we've seen them do it. So what's changed? It's pretty obvious to me: the TV situation. That money dried up and so did any flexibility the FO had. I'm not sure they had the greenlight to add much of any payroll. We're seeing the pretty obvious consequences of that - an already thin pitching staff is completely sapped right now and reinforcements don't appear to be coming.
  9. The blame for this rests squarely with ownership. I don't blame Rocco for distrusting these guys, but he doesn't make the roster. He's got two (barely, really just 1) functional starters and three functional relievers. Ownership blocking the FO from adding has really crippled this team and is overburdened the talent we have.
  10. I think we see a really good defensive effort that highlights that the team is a couple better defensive linemen away from being elite and the offense is fine....but the schedule makes us a 6-11 type of team. The style Flores plays means we need much better players than Tillery to play up front. Or a better nose so that Phillips can slide over. That position group just isn't good.
  11. If Rocco puts Okert in there and he gets shelled, I guarantee you the usual folks would be assailing him for not putting in Alcala. He put in his 2nd or 3rd best reliever (depending on your belief of the rankings) with a four run lead. He imploded in spectacularly quick fashion. Sometimes....stupid stuff happens. Good players strike out. Good pitchers get shelled. Bad players hit homeruns at the worst time against you. That's baseball. Managing a baseball team requires a person to consider the workload of the humans in their charge. The impact of arm fatigue. Career ramifications. Personal ramifications. Effectiveness. Money. Overuse. Injury. Rocco made a perfectly reasonable call that the vast majority of the time works into a win. Then things happen and sometimes you just have to throw your hands in the air and move on. This manager, with a hamstrung budget and a ton of injuries, has the best record in baseball since April 22nd. Read that again if you need to.
  12. We'd have won this game if Rocco hadn't told Gobert to guard Luka at the three point line. Moron.
  13. We win this game if Rocco doesn't move the North Stars to Dalls and force our new team into Christmas Hockey Sweaters every night. Traitor.
  14. We'd have won this game if Rocco showed some energy and secured the Texas border. Useless.
  15. We would've won this game if Rocco doesn't tear McCarthy's menicus subbing him in the early innings against a left handed secondary.
  16. We'd have won this game if Rocco had subbed in 40 million of his own personal cash for our payroll. Cheap bastard.
  17. Clearly we lost this game because Rocco hasn't done what every other big league manager does: become an omega level telepath. A guy not running with two outs because he forgot the count/outs? All on Rocco's lazy unwillingness to control minds and avoid human error at all times. Pathetic.
  18. We'd have won this game if Rocco didn't spoon with spreadsheets at night.
  19. If Rocco wasn't an automaton who foolishly ignores the logic of "Get ridiculously angry and yell lots = wins".....we'd have won this game. Rocco decided sugar should be bad for human health but taste so damn good.
  20. We'd have won this game if Rocco let starters pitch after the 4th inning. Little known fact, we wouldn't have to shovel snow if not for Baldelli.
  21. We'd have won this game if Rocco just mastered the space time continum so he could use hindsight like all us toxic geniuses.
  22. I won't hold my breath! To be clear, my argument that the division rivals were being dinks in no way absolves ownership. They have had the FO setup to fail since November. Poor Falvey has to try and trade without adding salary and some snickering fool in Detroit thinks Jenkins is a fair trade ask. Then he has to slink in front of the media and protect the guys cutting him at the knees. Ridiculous.
