  1. Passion can be negatively critical as well. I think this is where this issue has become so divisive lately. It's ok to be a fan and be upset or angry. It should be perfectly understandable why that is. All of us still posting negatively about the Twin's offseason still care enough about the team to be upset. Hearing inane conspiracy theories and lectures from people that we aren't being true fans to be critical or that we're not Terry Ryan so how dare we say anything, etc. is vapid and obnoxious.
  2. Yeah, I'm sure that analogy really works well. Do tell, you're comping the Twins 4th starter position with....what was it?
  3. Don't forget "Why is it bad to have a different opinion" meaning "Hey, don't call out why my ideas are factually wrong to borderline insane"
  4. When they improve their content and I keep mocking them. If the points don't get any more meaningful, insightful, interesting, or (god forbid!) well stated, then what do you expect as a poster? I appreciate that you feel the need to police good form in debate, but my snark wouldn't exist if there wasn't a continued lack of intelligent content.
  5. I won't make excuses for good snark, especially when someone seems unable to improve their ability to make a meaningful point without a sea of irrelevance surrounding it.
  6. Um, I'm not trolling, I'm being snarky to a series of posts stuffed with inane nonsense. However, I'm sure posters will flock to this site when they see all kinds of unchallenged 6 paragraph posts that are boiled down to this epic point: "Terry Ryan is GM of the Twins." At some point you have to think about what you're trying to say and if your argument for it makes any sense. Just like any other place where there is a free exchange of ideas, if you can't formulate a meaningful point and then compound it with vapid nonsense - your not going to be taken seriously and you'll face ridicule. We've seen a rash of dumb posts lately ranging from conspiracies to nonsense. That's not going to bring in folks either.
  7. Let's start with getting our GM to do that much before we worry about the rest.
  8. Terry Ryan is the GM Fro.....That means he is the general manager. That means Terry Ryan is in charge of general managing the Twins. Who play in Minnesota......that's who he general manages. He has a plan. It's to have players play baseball that he general manages. I believe in him.....afterall....he's generally managing them.
  9. Brace yourself for a post detailing you in 6 paragraphs (with lots of ....) that TF is located in Minneapolis! Smith showed us that a lot can happen with this team with an aggressive GM at the helm. His aggression ended up hurting the team in many ways, but it was also a boon for the team in many ways. Smith was aggressive, Ryan is generally more patient. JR has openly stated that he isn't a fan of long contracts to pitchers. All these conspiracy theories and excuses ignore the fact that Ryan has long since stated his intentions in FA. It's to be cautious and invest in no-risk, no-upside players typically with one trait: reliability. In trades he is far more aggressive and has been in the past. So basically, we got classic Terry Ryan. Nothing more.
  10. Why? And miss out on being informed that...*gasp* Terry Ryan is the one with the plan for this offseason? Where else will I get such amazing content if I'm not reading your posts? My "trying to find the point in a sea of irrelevance in a post" skills would really start to fade if I did that!
  11. Yeah, that was just a token move to say "see! we did something!" I'm starting to lose interest in all non-NFL games outside of the Vikes because of this. I can't get over how much a fan I am of football in general but holy crap is the league trying my nerves. Every crappy pass interference call or slight contact with a QB causing 15 yards just drives me nuts. They might as well make it illegal to play defense and save us all the grief.
  12. So, your point is that this is TR's plan? Well, yes, thank you for that. No one is saying otherwise. His plan is still subject to criticism and evaluation by fans. Comes with the job. So back to the discussion then?
  13. Exactly. And so long as our GM prefers to stay in the camp of the second sentence I quoted, we'll have trouble enticing FAs. All those other factors are irrelevant when you aren't willing to be competitive with your offers.
  14. My god man, some of this crap is getting borderline certifiable. Is this a plea for help of some kind?
  15. Right now old nurse, 70charger, and others are scolding them for their unnecessary negativity and their inability to understand the vast conspiracy by baseball FAs against our poor, misunderstood ball club.
  16. Well yeah, they made a proposal to Marcum. Idiot journalists are just not giving them proper credit. All a conspiracy to cover up the fact that all MLB FAs are in cahoots to spurn our every advance.
  17. I just quoted it so that the guys trying to defend the indefensible respond to this. It really hits the crux of the problem with the idea that Marcum is "more risky".
  18. Creepy Carroll Face Day - First 10,000 fans get a Carroll poster to put over their bed sure to scar them for life! "Can't give money away Day!" Where Terry Ryan stands outside the gates offering you significantly less money than you're willing to take to attend a Houston vs. Minnesota matchup.
  19. This blog has a mighty fine point to speculate on given our current state. However, I couldn't help but think this the whole time: You know your offseason was a failure when.......
  20. Do what's right for Hicks and his development into a cornerstone of the franchise. Whatever that is, doesn't matter about service time, do it. I trust the Twins on assessing their prospect readiness, it's one of their strongest qualities as an organization.
  21. The more stuff that comes out like this the more I'm convinced he knew all along. This just feels like poorly covering one's tracks.
  22. Nick Blackburn. Wait....we still have him?
  23. As for another tired refrain: To those who keep saying "2013 was a lost cause anyway....." - the problem is that even if that's true it doesn't justify the Pohlad's pocketing money when there were still clear areas the team could still improve itself. There is ZERO excuse for that. So long as they are this cushioned (20-25M give or take) that argument needs to stop. It has no merit whatsoever. I have long been saying that the team needs to go into a rebuild. But that should never stop you from acquiring assets if you can do so. You never know how they will benefit you (signed long term, traded for other assets, etc.) so you do it if you can regardless of how you expect the team to perform. You especially do this when they are not blocking any significant young talent. So any acquisition at SP or MI would've fit this perfectly. And we swung a big stinking 0-fer in FA this year. People have a right to be pissed.
  24. The problem is this this beef people seem to have with frustrated fans. Having a different take is fine. But anyone with a functioning brainstem should at least be able to understand why people are frustrated and not constantly jump into every thread to complain that there is too much negativity. That's my beef, you were just the first one to do this in this thread. I can't possibly top snepp's snarky response to Cdog's nonsense, well played there sir. I'll leave it at that.
  25. Thank goodness for drjim. Without him we wouldn't have had our obligatory "people are complaining too much" comment. No thread is complete without that annoying, whiny crap these days. God forbid passionate fans vent. You'll note that we blew up in celebration of his trades but overall we have been given a steaming pile of BS to chew on about this offseason and we're rightly pissed. Get over it cast of characters saying that crap. Posy a fairy tale thread to be positive in and leave reality to the rest of us.
