  1. With the way it worked out, I almost would've rather had Mauer leading off the ninth.
  2. Just finished saying to my wife how hard it must be to be a rookie with the spotlight on you and your teeth are chattering through everything you're supposed to say. I guess I went with pity initially.
  3. Twins really know how to dampen enthusiasm......
  4. Totally missed the point of that one man. Using 19 at-bats as an indicator of anything is terribly misguided. I don't know if Hermann is ready, but I will go out on this shaky limb: Most major league teams do not have a thrillingly solid option as their third or fourth catcher. So I'm really not that concerned about who that person is. (As long as that player isn't wasting a spot somewhere that a more versatile player should be in. And this year, we can say that isn't the case. Huzzah!)
  5. I want to believe this is unjustified paranoia. I really, really do....but all I can do is shake my head and wait for it to inevitably happen.
  6. In fairness, the way this ownership group has talked in the past and even before this season, they appear to believe true fan loyalty gives us a moral obligation to give them our money no matter what the product they choose to field is. They certainly don't care how rich we are when they establish that belief either.
  7. If you're looking three or four spots down on most team's catcher depth chart you're not going to find great players. The point is about the 40 man roster, which probably doesn't require us to keep all of Pinto, Butera, and Hermann. Butera seems like a logical waive.
  8. 19 ABs decided that huh? I'm not saying he is or isn't, but that's pretty flimsy evidence.
  9. I would gladly tell them to their face how I feel about their ticket prices given their own willingness to cut checks. And my bankroll is slightly behind theirs. I would love for a Pohlad to come on here and answer some respectful questions - by all means use your connections to do that. Methinks that will never happen, that's why Terry Ryan has to be the shield to the public saying that (of course) he wasn't asked to cut payroll! Perish the thought! He just knew that was what he signed up for. That was ultimately Billy's biggest failure.
  10. That's probably closer than what my effort would have been.
  11. Sad, he had potential to be a special pitcher. At this point, it's hard to see him as much more than a good memory in baseball history.
  12. Good thing I don't eat pizza at baseball games! They still have the best stuff (Tony O's and Krama.....whatever the name of the guys with meat in their kraut on their awesome brats)
  13. Couldn't agree more. I might just be holding a few notable at-bats against him (See: Fielder) because I know his numbers aren't as putrid as my imagination believes them to be.....but every time he huffs and puffs his way out to the mound - I cringe. I'm very skeptical of this group. Perk and Burton were awesome last year, but I have my doubts that both can repeat. Duensing is solid out of hte pen, so there's that. But after that this group really worries me. This is an awfully shaky bullpen foundation and the guys that would be first up to replace them if they fail hardly reassure me.
  14. It's nice to see them posted and clarified, thank you.
  15. Tell ya what, when the "higher" time happens - I'll apologize for being critical of the lower times. But until that day, I'm going to be upset that I keep forking over big money to a team unwilling to do the same.
  16. I worry about Granlund as well, but you realize 14 goals is right there in the of the league right? That seems like picking nits to me. This team is really playing well - physically and with skill. They play like a playoff team in terms of their grit and intensity. I'm pretty optimistic.
  17. No, Ryan said that first. St. Peter's comments came later and were in a pretty direct conversation. The fact is, what Ryan said is what he HAS to say when he fails to bring people in. St. Peter's comments, after a failure of an offseason, sound like an incredibly stupid thing to say. I'm inclined to believe the publicly stated stupidity because, well, if he was thinking he would've given us a cliche and not the damning truth. Ryan gave us the nonsense that was supposed to ease our concerns.
  18. Damn has this team really turned it around. They are fun as hell to watch. Seeing Brodziak-Clutterbuck-Heatley as a third line is fantastic. Recent years they would've been our top line and they're playing complementary roles. And Croyle and Brodin are here to stay, real good players.
  19. Significantly. I would suggest keeping a similar stupor for the next, oh, 160-some-odd games as well. It'll help with the digestion.
  20. Back to the original question - queasy. Like when you pull up to Taco Bell and you're starving and you just can't wait to dig in. And then after you digest the reality of that appetizing meal..... Well, I think we all know how that ends. That's my analogy, but I am salivating for the meal, even knowing the reality.
  21. Even on paper it takes some real mental gymnastics to achieve optimism.
  22. I tend to believe the things that public faces of sports organizations say when it falls outside of their normal cliches. For St. Peter to acknowledge that ultimately it's really dollars and years....that's not the normal mantra. Which leads me to believe that it was genuine talk rather than lip service. Afterall, what on earth would prompt him to say that other than a rare moment of honesty?
  23. I don't like the frills either, but there are extremes to it. Having been a Chicago resident for a few years, I can tell you that some of the bells and whistles are nice when all you have is a dude behind a board putting up basic numbers. But then, the frills I like are because I like all the nuance of stats and details in baseball. I could do without some odd under-water camera that isn't really any different than a regular camera but with a ball bouncing around in it. Stuff like that just confuses me.
  24. I think Nick's most apt comment was about this staff's floor. Yes, there are glimmers of hope. But my god, reading what we have at our disposal all in one place really reinforces how tenuous this groups hold is on being any better than last year. This could get really, really rough.
