  1. *sigh* Thanks for the reality check. It was a nice dream for the few minutes it lasted!
  2. For once I'm in favor of him having this pet. Usually his pets are all but guaranteed failures waiting to happen, this one at least has a chance to be a boon for the team.
  3. Glad to hear this part of the equation is in good shape. Hopefully he can bring some offense to the position.
  4. At this point, there are a few corpses I'd take back on our bench if it meant the end of the third-catcher roster spot. So yeah, I'll take Thome.
  5. I'm all about a better backup, I just don't think we get one.
  6. Right....which would make him a long-relief "specialist". I don't understand why we're trying so hard to get out of a box that makes him a useful player.
  7. Considering he had a similar surgery to Baker, it wouldn't shock me at all if we see him shut down or slowed down soon. Pelfrey could certainly Adrian Peterson his recovery, but it was unlikely from the beginning. ST are pretty irrelevant to this.
  8. Which means we should be hearing soon about Pelfrey being in a similar boat. Opening the door for Duensing to be a starter. That's my prediction.
  9. I get it, I just don't see any good coming from this. I'd rather he be in RF and cobble together 1B. Priorities seem to be awry.
  10. You realize his minor league playing time the last two years right? 180 starts at 1B vs. 40 in RF. The last time he played mostly OF was 2007 (Which accounts for almost half of all OF starts in his minor league career) Call me crazy, but I'd sort of like the guy to start getting comfortable at the position he'll largely be playing when the games count. Here is someone more close to the situation: Gardy is exactly right. Not playing him there isn't helping him, especially days removed from throwing concerns.
  11. Right, no one is suggesting the problem here is because the Twins are forcing him there. The problem is that he didn't get playing time there last year in the minors and now, in a 4-5 week spring training, another half of that is gone. And we've already had suggestions from the coaching staff that he needs work. I'd rather have a bunch of mis-cast 1B out there for a few meaningless games than Parmalee not ready when the games count.
  12. If, just days ago, you were worried about some of his throwing - why on earth is he back to a position he doesn't have to throw from? This is spring training...you don't NEED to play him at first. Shuffle someone else over there so the kid keeps working on being a better OF in live situations.
  13. I agree Dave but I don't think they bring anyone near that level in - I think they are aware of the fanbase's uncertainty and don't want to feed them anything more to question Ponder.
  14. My gut feeling on Doumit is that he's not even our full-time DH by early June. Throughout his career he's had trouble being a consistent part of his team's success. Be it injury or dips in production, he's just never had back-to-back seasons where he gave you 400+ at-bats of good production. I guess I just see that trend continuing.
  15. So, I can say "makes no sense to me" but not "makes no sense" without a threat to be banned? Yeah, wow. In any case, I'll just repeat it again: There was never a personal attack in here for this to start with. I'm deeply troubled by this seemingly new standard that is required. I went out of my way, three times, to clarify there was no personal attack. If the test is "not to start a feud" - I'm baffled. It's one thing to avoid personal attacks, totally understandable. This, whatever this garbled mess you're passing off as a standard, is not. So guess I'll just expect random threats for references to poor arguments that are...too mean? Not sensitive enough? I'm not sure how to refer to it.
  16. How about "makes no sense"? I'm now under the impression that such a reference is also not acceptable. As for "clownish" - it was intended as "not to be taken seriously" - a bit more harsh than that, no disagreement. But I didn't refer to the individual at all - I was clearly referencing the projection. And I made that clear multiple times. This entire post by you is lost in the fact that what is being accused of being poor discourse was in no way a personal attack.
  17. Well, I'm glad I'm not the only one utterly confused by that.
  18. I'm incredibly curious if there is a meaningful difference between this and "makes no sense". But yeah, what kab said. I'm really hoping we see Rosario advance quickly.....through our minor league system where he belongs. He's one of the guys I'm most excited about long-term for this team.
  19. So here is my take on important things for the Vikes to do this offseason: 1. Keep Felton and Loadholt. You're going to have to pay out the ear for Phil (5M a year I'm guessing) but I probably give that to him. This line played WAY too well to be broken up. Felton shouldn't be too expensive and really was excellent last year. 2. Pursue Dannell Ellerbe - love this guy and I think LB is the team's number one priority this offseason. Or should be. I know people will bring up WR, but give me a LB first. Especially if we keep Percy around. 3. Keep Percy around. Unless you're blown away by a deal, this guy is too dangerous to move for what you would likely get. Judging by the Brandon Marshall deal, we're just not likely to get what I think he's worth. So keep him. 4. I'd also call in on Levitre and Vasquez - either of them would only help more. They're very good and football still starts up front. 5. I'd try to land one of the big safeties - Delmas, Goldson, or Phillips. Smith is a beast, let's give him a partner back there that can come close to matching his talent. 6. Draft LB or DL as your top priorities in the first. WR is a better 2nd or 3rd round option. I'd come out of this draft's top 5 picks with something like this: 1 OL, 1 DT, 1 LB, 2 WR, and 1 DB. Just my thoughts.
  20. I guess I question that because the current system basically only works for very elite players. I don't think the comp system changed Lohse's salary pressure, only his offers. You might argue that will drop his salary demands, but I find that hard to believe with the qualifying offer of 13M. What will likely happen next year for players like Lohse is that they'll take the qualifying offer and potentially make much more than they would have for that one season than they would have on the open market.
  21. Yeah, I'm not claiming to know or anything. Just have to imagine if they sold beers for $3, it would cause all sorts of other problems.
  22. This. It's counter to what the compensation system is trying to accomplish and screams "change me!"
  23. Financially speaking yes, but practically speaking - sometimes you don't want to maximize your beer sales to their fullest. That could lead directly to greater issues at your ballpark that could come with all kinds of tangible and intangible costs.
  24. Muse is outstanding. I've more than warmed up to them, they have such a cool, eclectic sound. They produce more with three guys than some bands do with 5. Also, I know they are the trendy rock pick these days, but El Camino was a fantastic record by the Black Keys.
