  1. Trump and Hilldawg win again, Bush is out. Cruz continues to publicly demonstrate why everyone hates him.
  2. Eek, for my own sanity I'm going to have to avoid threads where Park's production is getting estimated. Woofta.
  3. Five consecutive years baby! Take that rational approaches to winning baseball games!
  4. Yeah, I'd basically have to be so wealthy I'd never need the phone. But that advent of cell phones has eliminated so many other technologies. And since I assume things like facetime would also be unavailable to me, I'm not sure I'd even go along with it. It would effectively cut me off from my child and my family and many other people.
  5. I want to believe that, not sure I do though.
  6. Exactly my reason.
  7. My AAA point was more to the idea that being electric in the minors doesn't really work as a "force someone's hand" argument.
  8. They do need opportunity though and AAA isn't really going to force anyone's hand. But this team has bullpen spots to offer both to some proven strikeout help and to opportunity to young hard throwers.
  9. I'm fine with that, or at least I understand your stance. I'm ok with this team admitting to itself what it is - a young team that needs to mature through opportunity. I think I'd have still spent some cash on the pen though, either way. Mostly because I don't trust the Twins to call up the high upside bullpen arms.
  10. All of that is fine, then acknowledge what he was grading and realize that a C/D is probably appropriate. He's not grading "how did the team prepare for 2016" - he's grading "how did they do adding to their team this offseason". Since you seem to agree they really didn't and are counting on internal improvements you should probably be "meh" about this, not upset about it. Why do we have to turn everything that isn't glowingly positive about the Twins into some kind of personal offense? It's just the appropriate grade you get if you don't turn in your homework.
  11. FA is always inflated. That's what FA is - you always overpay. But it's not jsut that - they didn't trade for anyone either. Let's be clear again - they....did....nothing. This is a grade on what they did or did not do. If you do nothing, what kind of grade do you expect? If you give out As for vaguely hanging around and talking about how good you'll be next semester while never doing anything - I don't want to be in your class either. I mean, I appreciate the baselessly easy A...but it has no merit whatsoever.
  12. You don't think the current World Champs have influenced the perception of value for relievers? Look, baseball is flush with money and it's only getting more flush. We'll probably say the same thing about reliever deals in four years too. If you choose not to pay to play, so be it. But there were options.
  13. I agree, they MAY be better next year without diving into free agency. With a young team like this I think anything from 75 wins to 90 wins is feasible depending upon how those young guys adjust to the difficulty of the major leagues. For me, the offseason probably deserves a C, mostly because I think there were options to improve the one area that needed it (bullpen) and the team was even more reluctant than I could've feared. I'm ok with Hicks for Murphy, mostly because I don't think much of Hicks as a long term player. I'm ok with the gamble on Park. I just would've liked the team to give itself a strikeout arm out of the pen rather than being content with Fien. But I can't quibble with this grade. It's grading winter efforts to improve the club and the Twins didn't do that. They're banking on spring and summer improvements from their kids. I'm cool with that, looking forward to seeing them play. But I'm under no illusion that I know how that's going to go either so some insurance in the bullpen would've helped me feel better.
  14. If you're content that the team needs nothing, than accept your D for doing nothing because you feel it wasn't necessary. I don't get why people are so resistant to judging what the team actually did - which is very little - to improve. If you're content with the improvements having to be internal (a perfectly fair position to hold) - why the hell do you care how they are judged in adding outside assets?
  15. If you walk into free agency looking only for value you should just accept your perennial D and stop expecting anyone else to grade you differently.
  16. They were lucky when you compare run differential to wins. The point being made is that banking on another fluke month is certainly possible, but not probsble. Houston should be thinking the same.
  17. Agreed. Let's not judge them by speculation, let's judge them by their own words: Did they do a good job addressing their "priority" by trade, signing, or any other means? The answer by any reasonable standard is no.
  18. The decision to move Sano from DH is entirely up to the Twins. No one forced them. Park is not going to get 550+ at bats at DH. The position isn't used like that by this team. More likely he is asked to give the 450 or so Vargas and Sano did and the other hundred are Mauer, Nunez, Plouffe, etc. So the fair frame is Park vs. Sano/Vargas and that isn't even close to a clear case.
  19. I included Hunter because it was claimed we managed to upgrade from him. I think Sano outproduces Hunter, what trade-off there is defensively I don't know. It is not clear to me that Park out-produces Sano and the rest of the contigent that cycled through DH. Especially since the team uses the DH position as a resting spot for guys. I would say we're not at a place where "probably" Park outproduces Vargas/Sano, because that's really what we're talking about.
  20. Because if you think Matt Latos and Ricky Nolasco are even close to the same thing we found your problem right there.
  21. Both are probably true. Either way, it'd be nice if these sorts of conversations had people at least attempt a degree of objectivity. Nick's next article should predict the Tigers go -1 and 164 after the Twins are rewarded two wins in a single game for the first time in MLB history because they are also the best looking team on the field. Only then may we escape the nexus of pessimism it seems.
  22. Who is arguing it dooms them to failure? The argument is that missing out on that upgrade and doing nothing with a bullpen the team itself identified as a priority...probably means we don't need to get our pitchforks out about a D for the moves done or not done to help the team. Probably has some merit.
  23. No, I'm arguing Park/Sano is not a clear upgrade over Sano/Hunter. And it's not. Worse yet, you tried to count both positions as upgrades by fudging the argument to make it look like it's possible. The real question is if that combo is an upgrade and that's far from clear. I
