  1. I'm glad someone is singing the praises of this season. I'm with Chief, I thought from about midway through Season 2 and all through Season 3 the quality of the show fell off pretty dramatically. I hope it finds the right tune again.
  2. We'll have to see if that matters in Florida or Ohio - where Trump is in a commanding spot relative to Cruz. (Who is, at best, a distant third in both those contests per the current polling)
  3. Absolutely, remember when we used to be worried he was too much of a show-off or had some kind of attitude issue? The kid is passionate. I, for one, love to root for people passionate about life and what they do. This just further cements me as a Sano fanboy. I hope, in the future, he's able to have another child and enjoy that thrilling ride as well.
  4. Like I said before, Trump has a strong core of support that seems to follow him. The question will be, is there enough anti-Hillary support on the right for him to carry the rest of the Republicans? I have serious doubts, but I'm not convinced the answer is no.
  5. I saw that, I often wonder how people think these indepth reports on hundreds of players come straight from one writer. I don't think the scope of minor league scouting is appreciated and people put far too much stock into what they read. The examples are numerous when you think back on all the players we read were good or bad at something and then came up and you couldn't tell what the hell people were talking about. Delmon Young was once considered such an adequate CF that he'd be a plus corner guy. That's what happens when you see a small sample size and draw conclusions. It's a bit of a house of cards that people have too much confidence in for my liking.
  6. I'm rooting for Cruz as a libertarian. I want one of the two parties to embrace me (and the ever growing number like me) and it's going to take a radical shift in thinking for that to happen. I don't ever see the Dems doing that and the Republicans won't until the Ted Cruz types are less prominent.
  7. That would be amazing. He'll get destroyed so hard in the general election that it might be the real come to jesus moment of the Republicans. He represents everything that prevents the party from moving in a more productive direction.
  8. Arrieta was acquired via the signing of Scott Feldman. But you were adamant at the time that Arrieta was a total bum and a stupid trade. Sometimes, when you gamble on upside, the payoffs are beyond what you expect.
  9. Again, that's on the Twins. If we're going to compare the positive moves by the Cubs vs. the Twins, than having an unattractive pitching coach and finding that one guy that worked out is a feather in the cap of the Cubs. At the end of the day it's the team's job (specifically, Ryan) to find the "one guy that worked out" and if he doesn't, than he failed relative to that other team. Worse yet, it's a mindset for the Twins. They take gambles on injury bouncebacks, but rarely do you see that AAAA player or young guy that scuffled be the target. You were mocking the idea of Arrieta being a smart target for months because you failed to recognize the opportunity. Just like the Twins seem to do quite often. If you are going to be bad, at least be bad with some hope of a miracle. The only way Correia turns into a miracle is if the hand of god itself reaches into the stadium to transform him. With Arrieta there was at least pedigree. Yeah, his transformation is a shock even to those of us that advocated getting him. But that's what investing in upside does - it pleasantly surprises you.
  10. They might have if they had chosen the right pitcher to sign. The idea that the Twins had absolutely no way of acquiring Arrieta is just preposterous. The Cubs targeted a smart buy-low candidate, rolled the dice, and got seriously paid. The Twins should've been looking to do the same thing and instead were stacking the rotation with the Kevin Correias of the world.
  11. Well, I would hope it starts and stops with an appropriate acquisition by law enforcement to intrude via a warrant. There are laws on the books that allow for surrendered freedom if the belief that a crime has been committed and there is ample enough evidence to obtain a warrant. What doesn't exist is a process for going about acquiring information from some of the more advanced technologies. That should be something figured out by Congress, but therein lies the problem.
  12. Like I said, the parameters have to be discussed. I don't know enough about the law enforcement process to speculate on what would all be valuable for them to have access to. But we ask companies to intrude on personal information for law enforcement reasons in many facets of our lives, if the proper steps have been taken. Apple and others should be part of setting those parameters and working to keep them up to date. It's a necessary part of our changing technology landscape. I don't want Apple to have to open their encryption to hacks, I find that request absurd. But I do expect their to be significant cooperation when needed.
  13. Personally, I think the smartest thing the Cubs have done is concentrate their early draft picks on hitters rather than pitchers. They've found smart ways to supplement their pitching staff and have gotten high caliber hitters to come up much more quickly with much more certainty.
  14. But it still has to be done. Law enforcement still needs some form of access. Online banking systems still have algorithms that can track fraud and other abuse. Will the parameters be hard? Sure. Will it be tough to keep up with technology? Sure. But we shouldn't throw our hands up in the air either. We still want law enforcement to be able to do what it needs to, when it needs to.
  15. I don't disagree that the Twins use FA poorly. But the Cubs aren't where they are because of FA signings. Most of their key talent wasn't bought on the FA market. They're ahead of the Twins because they did a better job using roughly similar assets to produce a better group of young talent. The Cubs just hit gold time after time. Though, one big difference is Soler. The Twins just categorically refuse to participate in that market for some reason I don't, and will never, understand.
  16. We're going to have to find something though and it's going to have to be a very living, breathing way of cooperating. We ask companies (phones and banks) to allow law enforcement to gather information, tech will have to do that too. This particular request from the FBI is silly. It's also silly to think Apple is really planting it's flag here in "freedom" so much as using that angle to further their own image. What needs to happen is a cooperative effort by the tech industries and law enforcement to set the parameters of what they need and how to get it.
  17. I can't believe people actually think Ted Cruz can win anything. I sort of hope he does steal the nomination and loses by a laughable amount. That's the element of the right we need to smash to get progress.
  18. Trump is deliberately vague on policy, I think some of that is ignorance and much of it is calculated. But what he does say specifically is incalculably stupid.
  19. If they do that....it instantly makes this entire OF thing The Stupid.
  20. I think we should all randomly speculate on what the first one is (knowing full well the truth of course)..... I'm going with this one.
  21. Yup, you seriously have to ignore basic math to not see his nomination as anything but a given at this point.
  22. Most of the states Cruz had the best chance to win in - he already lost. This thing is over unless they pull something shady.
  23. It's almost as if you can't just throw infielders in the outfield and expect magic! I'd say that's some sort of newsflash, but it appears someone should run the headline over to the Twins at some point here. But I like that we're giving Escobar the job right now. We have Polanco in the wings so I feel ok about the position, or at least more ok about it than I did last year.
  24. According to DRS on Fangraphs, he had a good year in 2004 but was otherwise pretty crappy from then on. Most other measures say the same thing.
  25. Seems like a very interesting case to follow. I've heard about it but reading these links was interesting. It seems to me that the best thing that can come from this is some specific guidelines for tech companies for how they help law enforcement deal with these situations. Kind of like banks have to do. Though I'm not sure this is the best way to go about designing those guidelines, but the alternative is Congress. So...yeah.
