Sure, but you never know what might appeal to him. However, the Devers trade today has turned me into a full steam buyer I think! (And also much more reluctant to shop Correa)

I don't know what to expect and you're right that there are a lot of obstacles....but I absolutely float that possibility out there.

I was in the buying camp but that was when we had a full rotation. I think selling on Vazquez, Paddock, Castro, and France makes sense. Then see what Correa can fetch you too.

We notice that Mike Conley isn't the same guy from last year.....he's only a year older than Durant. I think that age cliff is coming. I'd rather keep it simple and add someone like Lonzo Ball. If they want to swing big, swing on a PG. Not sure who that is - Ja Morant, Fox, upside guy like Jaden Ivey. They all come with problems but I lean more that way.

I'd rather have the 13th man be a Willi Castro type player, but there aren't many of those. At the end of the day he's a "break glass in case of emergency" guy who the team has zero reason to develop any further. In all likelihood any better player for that spot would need to play more (at the expense of better players) or deserve time developing in the minors and playing every day. Neither of which are actions I want the FO or the manager taking part in. The Quad A, super flexible, specialists are not abundant unfortunately.

Here are a few guys I would consider calling on: Pittsburgh has two former top prospect catchers in Joey Bart and Henry Davis. The team is going to need a backup next year and some insurance depth. I'd ask about both of them. I'd see if the price tag for Jarren Duran is anything less than Walker Jenkins. I'd check on the price tag for Yandy Diaz. And I'd ask the Orioles if Colby Mayo, Kjerstad, or Westburg are on buy-low prices.

Soldier Field, the one in Washington, and the issues last year in Brazil do take some issues with this. I think one of the things often unsaid/unknown is how frequently the minor league ballparks are terrible too. You're right that the MLB needs to take this more seriously at every level of the game.

I was shocked to see on Fangraphs that he is rated by advanced metrics as above average. I'm wondering if the rest of the AL is employing statues.

He's there because they need someone who can back up multiple positions without them pulling someone better suited for development in the minors. Nothing more.

It may help your argument to lean less heavily into this characterization. Like....it's really hard to get upset that Brooks Lee isn't losing at-bats to a guy that the 23-37 Marlins thought to waive. We want young players to develop and get at-bats. Stumping for one day of Bride seems like a weird hill to die on.

Bride and Clemens are not good counter examples to this. The purpose of the farm is not to have a bunch of Quad-A players available for emergencies. The farm is about player development. You might house some Quad-A guys there, but not enough to fill-in for all scenarios. Hence....waivers. And your own argument on Lewis/Lee speaks to why this is hypocritical. You want those guys down/benched because they can't hit, but that's why Julien, Miranda, and others are down there. They need development/refinement. Clemens and Bride are past that stage. They are what they are. And what they are is not good enough for a regular role unless you get lucky and somebody goes on a heater. (Clemens) They're not good enough to steal regular at-bats from actually talented players like Lee. I know you are aware of this but your arguments seem to exist in some other space where this reality doesn't exist: there is a finite amount of available playing time. There is a finite amount of player development that has proved to be possible across all of time and space in baseball. "Everything all at once" is a movie title, not a reality of baseball.

I think the adjective is informative on the legitimacy of the argument. Saying 2023 is "bad" because you got one player (who you also purposely diminished the value of) speaks to a deeply unfair framing. His drafting hasn't been good. It was a disaster in 2022, it was alright given we only had a 1st and late picks in 2023, and our returns on the last two are TBD. It isn't a strength, but I dont need a disingenuous argument to conclude that.

I mean, if you don't like the first two paragraphs and it offends your politics, then you might want to consider how well your politics are aligned with reality. I have no doubt the very rich people will grease the wheels to make sure they keep their advantage. Much to my chagrin.

Your argument was that 2023 was evidence of bad drafting because they "only" got Addison. But they dealt the second and third most impactful potential picks to get Hockenson. Who is still on the team as a key part. I don't know how there is any rational way to call 2023 "bad" given they came away with Addison, Hockenson, and possibly Blackmon. You could've argued it doesn't count good or bad because they traded so many picks, but instead you argued on the quantity of quality players they got, purposely leaving out that they dealt key picks to add a quality player. Then called it "bad" based on that framework where you deliberately omitted value. That just isn't a fair way to do it.

Ty France is absolutely replaceable. He's below average offensively (93 OPS+) and he's not a good defender. The Twins should be targeting a young player for that position. Veteran? No. Young player? Yes. And yes....they do have the depth to make such a move. And yes....they should be making that sort of move.

One of the key values in building a pitching pipeline is using it to fill gaps in the lineup. This team should absolutely be in the market for a Colby Mayo or someone else they can add from their depth.
