  1. Nope, you added insightful elements to my view that I didn't elaborate on. I think a decade of defeats are probably necessary to marginalize the part if the Republican base responsible for this.
  2. If they had thrown a flag on that for PI, I'd be asking the same question: "What the hell is a cornerback supposed to do?" He had body position...is he supposed to step aside so the WR can go around or through him to the pass? Sorry, but if that ball is placed towards the pylon or the back corner of the endzone, it's a touchdown or a legit call. That isn't a bad call by the officials, that's a bad throw by the QB.
  3. I really, really hope we do see the Republican party rebuild into something reasonable. I worry the nutjobs have too firm a grip on the party to let that happen. Even in miserable defeat the core crazies that made this possible aren't going to roll over easily. Especially since we've seen how *@^* heads like Hannity have already been building the post-defeat case. I mean, how sad is it that I actually tip my hat to Glenn Beck at this point? I think we're in for things with the Republicans to stay worse before they better. The infighting is going to take some time to settle.
  4. Leidner gets more excuses and cover for his failures than any other QB I've ever seen. At least that I can recall. I thought him being a fifth year senior, totally healthy, was all it was going to take? Why is there always a new excuse?
  5. *Spoilers ahead* My wife and I were talking about our take on this show and there were a few things that bugged us: 1) What the hell was with the dynamic between Shades and Diamondback? At any point did that make sense? 2) Are the magic alien bullets the worst idea ever? At this point their existence basically makes Luke's abilities meaningless if they are all over and in ready supply. I give credit to this show for a lot of things, but in the end the story and the villain really failed it.
  6. Leidner first round pick is as preposterous a take as anyone has had in years.
  7. It would all but guarantee Clinton's win. Ballot access is state by state, I have to imagine there would be issues getting something done this late in the game. I think it's a pipedream for anyone to mount any sort of challenge. That opportunity passed.
  8. This thread shouldn't be about Walker anyway. There is no reason to drop him off the 40 man at this point. There are plenty of other names that should be dealt or released that he shouldn't even be among those considered.
  9. Oh yay.....Walker. Yeah, let's bring him up and watch him strike out 60-75% of his at-bats in the name of just trying it to see if we get lucky. I'm glad we tried to do right by the kid and wait until he's ready. Vanimal pretty much closed this thread with his post. There are plenty of dudes to cut off this list.
  10. That's pretty much my line of thinking.
  11. As crazy as that sounds, I wonder how far it will get. I think I'd like to see it happen, it may destroy the Republican party in a more decisive way than Trump losing.
  12. I'm almost considering watching Hannity just to marvel at the spin job. What he was saying was absolutely disgusting and beyond deplorable. It's terrible and should be condemned by all. Have I heard other men and women talk like that before? Yes, (mostly men) but I have never been comfortable around people who think that little of other people. Or speak that poorly of others. I hope Hillary goes for the kill at the debate. I still fear we're a terrorist attack or (as we've learned today) an aggressive move by a foreign government, away from this menace being the President.
  13. It should end him. It won't, I'm (sadly) wondering if it will even move the needle.
  14. Sure, there are things you can take away. But I'd argue that's a pretty low bar to clear.
  15. It's not that simple when you are talking about collective bargaining. Every penny, and how it's allocated, is agreed upon by both sides. If the owners showed up in the minor leagues and showered players with money I GUARANTEE you the player's union would have a fit. They'd see it as trying to undermine them or influence negotiations or something. It's simply not as easy as you keep stating. For me, this is about 70% the union's fault. They are the ones who are representing and stiffing the minor leaguers. The 30% that the owners have is for allowing them to do it. My extensive beef with MLB ownership has more to do with the way they are stiffing us, the paying customer.
  16. I'd argue it's not just athletes that stopped learning anything useful in college. Providing sports entertainment might be the only thing colleges do well any more.
  17. You lost them long before you got to facetious. We should drum up a good old fashion higher education bashing session. A lot of issues bug me, but that one makes me angry.
  18. Put me in the Kendall camp early on.
  19. Like it or not, the side that has control over this is the players, not the league. Could the league do something unprecedented in collective bargaining and insist on something for the other side at their own expense? Sure. But that's just not how it works in any industry where worker compensation is bargained. We should be asking why the MLBPA uses these guys as leverage every bit as much as we rip the owners. If we want to rip the owners, let's talk about them building their own stadiums.
  20. I'm fine with that, but I'd honestly just prefer he's gone. I just don't think that's an option unfortunately.
  21. Zach Britton has given up 1 run since April and he didn't pitch? Not sure there is much to say about that beyond "WTF?" (Plus...holy crap Zach Britton)
  22. I don't think the lack of ideas for this is the problem. I think it's collective bargaining. And the people we're talking about are getting actively, deliberately screwed by both sides. Including the side that claims to represent them.
  23. He still gets style points, but Clinton's campaign is utilizing the debate's results perfectly. It was clear Kaine was sent out there to be an attack dog and he pounded those points. He just did it a bit too aggressively so that he came off a bit obnoxious. But that is precisely how you utilize that debate to keep Trump on his heels. Kudos to the Clinton campaign.
  24. I think it's fine to find ways to dig out value in Mauer and why you can still start him. I just think the reasons to move on are far more abundant.
