  1. Apple doesn't fall far from the tree either.
  2. Michelle Obama is marvelous and a great speaker. But that doesn't make her a good choice as a leader either. Those aren't necessarily the same thing.
  3. I had to google it. Well done sir. Well done.
  4. Trade Dozier, play him at 2B. /thread
  5. It seems only fitting, during this election, that Michelle Bachmann would find a way into the conversation again. I mean, what took her so long anyway?
  6. Well that definitely looks good. I didn't love Force Awakens (for nostalagia it was a kick, but I sort of saw this story happen once already), but this? This looks good.
  7. I think people look for their own thing in comic books and heroes. Lots of people love Superman. Tarantino even told us in Kill Bill why Superman is the best of them. Personally, I like vulnerability in all respects. The magic, alien laced bullets are a fine thing for a comic that has been running for 30 years to tell as a storyline. For that to be 5 episodes in to a character's first season is troubling. That's trying way too hard and way too fast to build a sense of real danger. IMO, it wasn't necessary and really hurt the plot.
  8. Drove through Cosmos many times on the way to see cousins in Grove City! Driving from New Ulm up that way on 4 is another good way to see lots of those small towns that are dying. As Psuedo said, there is a lot of pride in those towns. That's their home, they're proud to make it on their own, there is (spite? disdain? Those words seem too harsh) for city living. And people are suffering. They bear the burden of increased costs, agriculture has been hit with low prices again, and businesses just don't make it. It is depressing and there is a lot of dismissive rhetoric from both sides. The right tries to talk about it but the left rarely has much experience with that they are talking about it. (And even then, the right doesn't understand, it's largely manipulative nonsense)
  9. What would you put as a playing time percentage? 70/30 Vargas?
  10. Yeah, meant college. I'm very familiar with Winona...spent a few nights there while I was in college. Beautiful town. But much larger than where I grew up, which was more akin to what the article was referring IMO.
  11. Gaylord. Lots of towns down in that area are struggling. You?
  12. I grew up in a small rural Minnesota town. The kind that, if their one business shuts down, would cause the town to collapse. Drive around in out state Minnesota and you'll find a lot of dying towns. People are flocking to the in-between sized towns now like a Fairmont or Owatanna rather than sticking it out in their little town. We route roads away from towns and it does the same. When I was a kid going to school in LaCrosse I'd take highway 14 and it'd wind through Waconia and all the little towns there. Now it bypasses them and the towns are falling apart. Dying slowly as all their kids leave for places that actually have jobs and opportunity. And yet, we need those towns. Farmers, like my family, need them to keep their business alive. But as more and more people move away it causes a litany of issues. (Education chief among them) Trump's supporters aren't going away. In fact, his loss may only deepen the divide and the anger. That graph about job creation is perfect. It's a perfect symbol of what's wrong with a lot of our economic development right now. I'm going to use that again, it's perfect.
  13. Bochy has done it before though hasn't he? Manager moves are wildly overrated because of stuff exactly like this. He did everything he could to get the best matchups and they just failed on the field.
  14. Beck has also done a lot to clean up his act since he left Fox. He used to be a lot worse and I think time and being able to dictate his own style have moderated him. Also, I missed that rant Chief posted....holy crap! That woman's tweets should be blasted all over for Republicans to see.
  15. This I can totally get behind. We shouldn't be the same team next year, but we should be looking to acquire pitching like that. AA and AAA talents or guys ready to make the jump. That's where we're going to find assets this offseason.
  16. Speaking of first base, I am eagerly awaiting our bi-annual tradition of celebrating Mauer's health! We're probably 5 months away from that "Mauer feels like he's 19 again!" newspaper article and about 11 months from the "Mauer: I used a walker in the hallways between games but kept playing like a trooper" follow-up. Play Vargas.
  17. Plus, the kid worked hard and earned more opportunity. I hope that gets rewarded.
  18. The conclusion to draw is to give him lots of at-bats next year and see what we have.
  19. And Jessica Jones was mentally ravaged. Luke Cage and the Hulk have the same problem for me that Superman does. At some point you stop being interesting because of the goofy lengths writers have to go to make the invulnerable become vulnerable.
  20. Continuing to be that bad for another 5 years. The goal is to actually win and be competitive right? Not just be slightly less putrid. At least, I hope that's the goal. Losing 90 games next year doesn't make me feel good. I want to win 90 by 2018 and we don't do that by holding on to tradeable assets out of delusion. If this offseason of 2014 and you could land an Ervin Santana and another arm - you might be able to persuade me. But there is no Ervin Santana. There is no depth. You're going to overpay for anything you acquire. Not just in money but in trades. Look at things for what they are, there is only one reasonable path here.
  21. Who Shades goes from being a clearly loyal right hand man when not in his presence, to constantly questioning him in his presence. Makes no...damn...sense.
  22. I don't like it either. But doubling down on a bad thing only makes it worse.
  23. Plus, Joker worked because he wasn't trying to be anything other than a lunatic with no cares given for who he pissed off. We were supposed to believe Diamondback was some kind of revered, established mobster who ran a syndicate of organized crime. That whack job? No way. And as much as I liked Shades as a character, every time I saw him interact with Diamondback made much of his earlier dialogue and behavior seem totally inexplicable. Black Mariah was great, but she wasn't the centerpiece of the final arc. The crazy guy from last Saturday's Sci-fi movie was that guy.
  24. If Trevor Plouffe is on this team next year I may strongly consider auctioning my fandom to some other, more deserving team.
  25. Bush was part of it, I'd argue the Tea Party surge that was successful and invited in by the Republicans was the real turning point. You invited those crazy people into your house, now you can't evict them and it's killing your ability to do anything other than clutch to one half of Congress.
