  1. If that Walker thing was reasonable, I'd love it, but I just can't see it happening for reasons already listed. I'm on board for Castro and Storen though. I'm also on board for finding an elite fielder at SS, whomever that might be.
  2. That's a good article. His central point is what matters and should hopefully be a takeaway for everyone across all spectrums of this - how do we become less divided and more connected? Happiness comes from our relationships with others and that seems to be waning for a variety of reasons, even as our world gets smaller.
  3. I've considered cord cutting, but by the time I add up all those other things and the fact that I get so much bundled into my dish service, it really doesn't make much of a difference. Especially when you factor in that having that service gives me access to so much more live and available content. It's just not worth the extra $20 a month to patch it all together.
  4. Please don't hold them to that. Walking into this free agency class like a drunken sailor is a disaster waiting to happen. I like to think they'll realize that.
  5. I don't think your projections are unreasonable, it's just my prediction that a lot of money being handed out this offseason is going to look silly compared to projections. Time will tell.
  6. Wasn't the last debate the first time it's been brought up in any meaningful way? It's been a total afterthought. And while I wouldn't make it the top priority, it's among the highest priorities.
  7. I like the plan, I just have serious doubts about the pricetags you have quoted. There are some of those I'd nearly double. Or at least add about 40-50% on the deal.
  8. That's a whole other kind of loving right there.
  9. I agree, that's why the "let's just sign Brett Anderson cheap" strategies to the offseason make no sense to me. There will be nothing cheap on the market. Expect to pay a substantial amount of money, moreso relative to performance than usual even. It's why in FA I'm only looking at maybe adding a catcher and two bullpen arms. (One solid guy and one bounce back guy we can make our closer and hope he nets us a return in July) Otherwise, I'm not interested in overpaying an inflated market with little talent to get back low upside.
  10. I can predict only one thing with absolute certainty: Over the next two months there are going to be a LOT of posters saying "good lord, how did X player get that much money?" I hope the Twins recognize that and play this offseason smart.
  11. I'd call and ask, but I'm pretty sure I know the answer. He was the kind of player to target two or three years ago. We're too late on that boat.
  12. Any step in the right direction is one to applaud. Having a small handful of people managing the talent might explain so many of the baffling organizational issues we've been noticing. Good managers know how to delegate and whom to delegate to. Let's hope that's what this is. (This would be one of the primary things to learn from Epstein and the Cubs, btw)
  13. The Vikings know just how to make the knife to the back really hurt....
  14. We have enough 1B and DH.
  15. At this point we have to trust our new leadership to identify the right young talent and hope we get enough of it in return to help move the needle. Given the SP market, I think there may be significant interest in Ervin, but we have to find out. This is not a pitching staff full of young guys trying to take the next step. It isn't getting better internally for a long time, so you have two choices: accept having bad to mediocre pitching or try to fix it by gambling some of your older assets. And, you can still sign Castro in that case. Because these young arms will need better defense. But why waste those efforts on 30 somethings with little upside? Why not gamble on upside? Isn't that the only path forward?
  16. It might move the needle significantly over the long term. You seem to be saying our short term choices are: Kyle Gibson/Berrios/Hughes bounce back vs. trade for help. I see both options as terrible in the short term and only one offering hope for the long term. So, that makes my decision fairly easy.
  17. The solution is to trade Ervin Santana and Brian Dozier for needs. Speculating on trade packages is good for giggles, but it's nothing but speculation. What do you want me to say? Trade for Urias? I don't know what will be out there, but I know Kyle Gibson and Phil Hughes aren't going to fix anything. And Ervin Santana will be a trade chip in a seller's market, quite the opposite of your claim. Brian Dozier's value should be solid, at the very least it will never be higher. Naming names isn't helpful, but I'll do this: Call the Dodgers, Pirates, Mets, and every other professional baseball team about your two big assets. That's your only hope long term.
  18. Or you can go out and get some new shoes. The fix for this pitching staff isn't coming internally for at least several seasons. If the hope is that Kyle Gibson and the remnants of Phil Hughes' right arm are going to be our lifeline.....well, I think that speaks for itself.
  19. How is our pitching going to get better without adding talent from outside the organization?
  20. Right, after two years Dozier and Santana are no longer Twins anyway. Every month they remain a Twin after December is a risk of losing tremendous value in the name of very small odds of success.
  21. I doubt that happens. But none of us know. I get the difficulty, making a blueprint around two huge trade chips is basically impossible. But if those trades don't happen we are in serious trouble. So I seriously hope your plan doesn't happen because those deals do happen. Otherwise we are in trouble.
  22. And the first sentence basically eliminates the possibility. So, yeah, not really buying that. Our entire offseason has to be built around those trades or we can plan on losing another 90 for awhile.
  23. They failed because the rebuild has netted nothing for pitching and that issue cannot be resolved by keeping everyone and hoping that a horrible staff magically becomes competent.
  24. It's a given that if no one offers anything we keep Dozier and Santana. But I don't reach that conclusion until I have extensively explored moving them. It is THE priority IMO.
  25. Being realistic about what the team has shouldn't lead to the conclusion of keeping Santana, Dozier, and Plouffe. I don't know how you reach the conclusion we are a catcher away from building off an 83 win team two years in the past. Like I said, I hope the team's new leadership sees it nothing like you did.
