I have no idea what to expect on the bullpen, but there are some pieces: Raya, Sands, Funderburk, Prielepp seem like bullpen options. Maybe Festa. Find a reliever in a deal for Larnach. Look for change of scenery deals for Miranda or whomever else. Look for guys in free agency. I know you won't get much, but some of the success the Twins have had building a good bullpen is just taking failed dudes and getting the best out of them in shorter appearances. I'm making no bold claims of the bullpen being good, but it's the one area of baseball where outcomes have the highest variance. -
I think that's right, give McCarthy those chances to take big shots in smaller doses. I think KOC was calling a Darnold-like gameplan again despite the fact that those long developing plays were getting Darnold killed too. (Because he also held the ball too long) Keep it simple, short and take your big shots judicially. But I bring back JJ the moment he's healthy enough.

I think people are getting way ahead of themselves after three games. The Vikings had much better play-calling on Sunday and the defense played like we expected. I get that over-reactions are basically built into our sports dialogues now but anyone ready to roll with Wentz for the next 5-6 weeks after that game really needs to cool their jets a bit. Maybe he'll play out as another redeemed QB for KOC.....or maybe we got our LT back and we remembered how to mix the run, pass, play-action, deep shots, and quick game with sanity. Wentz played competently, which is great! McCarthy is young and he'll need some time to develop, but part of helping that development is play-calling like Sunday. What we do for a young QB should be similar to what we do for a shaky journeyman - keep it simple. Hopefully this gives KOC some clarity on that in the weeks to come. Then we can start making some judgements.

So many strange outcomes/swings from last week. Gotta remember the season is early and teams are still figuring it out a bit. Packers aren't a juggernaut. Vikings look a lot better with their LT and their defense remembering their identity. Bears suck though. That one is for sure.

Great start. Defense is playing like they should be - aggressive. LDR had the pressure that forced that pick. Lots of running and quick throws. Wentz needs to throw that 3rd down away, otherwise you can't ask for a better start.

I love the moxie. That 3rd and 19 throw is one we wouldn't have seen Cousins make. His willingness to run has been nice. I see the talent. I see the "it" factor. What I need to see is play-calling change. (Which needed to change last year too)

I don't think he was setup to fail - they built him an entire offensive line and organized an amazing group of pass catchers. Mason was a great pickup too. The problem is KOC and JJ having to put on the big boy QB pants that Michigan never asked him to do. But if you know that JJ needs to work on speeding up his process and being able to get the ball out in rhythm.....then you need to call plays that work towards that. He clearly has talent...that 3rd and 19 throw for a first was a great throw. The throw to Jefferson was great. It's the normal 2nd down when we have a long-developing, 5 step drop, multi-read throw EVERY TIME that's the issue. Yeah....go ahead and try and dagger people from time to time. Just not every time! It's not illegal to pick up a first down on 2nd and 6 by throwing a slant. Or a mesh with some possibilities underneath. KOC said that organizations fail young QBs more than the reverse. Right now he's being that organization.

As an OL you do the slide. If he doesn't then he risks the larger human, who is even closer to the QB, possibly coming free. You absolutely don't freelance on what you think is happening.

I like KOC....but this is the area he needs someone to help him with. He's been better at running the ball (except for 1st and goal at the 2. For ****'s sake hand it off).....but he simply need to develop a mix of short, quick throws into the regular play-calling. Year after year we lead in this department. No offensive line can hold for 4 seconds every throw. You're going to make them look bad if you don't start punishing the defense with the quick game.

I definitely think that strip sack was miscalled at the line of scrimmage. That's a center/QB responsibility and I guarantee you if Kelly is out there they aren't sliding left in that protection. I would, however, absolutely kill to see a three step drop and throw on a slant, quick out, or curl.

Yeah, no thanks on Cousins or Winston. The roster is already so devastated with injuries that trying to patch holes with trades is a mistake IMO. At least if we are bad this year as McCarthy gets his feet under him.....we kept all our picks this year!

That is our first good look at the ball placement/not-everything-is-a-fastball chatter we heard they were working on with him during camp.

One issue I had last year was our 3rd and short playbook. Still have issues with that. 3rd and 2 should not be that long developing.

Seriously....stop the cute KOC. Hand the ball to Mason. There have been some good things this quarter but everything looks difficult at this point. And for the love of god chip on the left side every single pass play.
