Isn't the hallmark of a truly great coach the ability to maximize talent? I'm not sure Thibs can do that. With Levine and Maarkanen on this team instead of Butler, they could be relevant.
I don't think that point is misguided at all. He'd be at least two years away from racking up the wins he could this year by buying into the Wolves. He's totally fraudulant on that.
You're taking a top 8-10 hitter in the middle infield to downgrade him to league average....and have him play a position he hasn't played defensively. I don't see the upside Mike. In general, I can't ever see a scenario where I'm moving a middle infielder to a corner unless the guy is 40 and can still hit like a machine.
The part where this fails.....is that it's a plan with no upside. Butler coming at the end of practice on fresh legs to show up his teammates accomplishes nothing. Butler is the villain. He was also an emerging villain at the end of his Chicago run too. Souhan's right...he's two-faced and Thibs is being pulled along for the ride.
I'm not sure he'll be an equal defensively and he's not a better hitter than Rosario. Plus...now you have two infield spots open. And those are harder to fill.
If you're looking for a contract you can take on cheaply....Zach Grienke continues to be number one on my list. And now it's being reported in AZ that they are likely looking to dump that salary.
I disagree. They've been paying lip service to it for decades. The voters are out there and not turning out. It can be changed with, I think, far less time, effort, and money than is typically spent on other forms of campaigning.
You're also moving the goal posts a lot. Are you asking about you personally (as your last response seemed to indicate) or more generally? I thought my last post was fairly specific and your response dismissed it because you personally aren't in Alabama. So I have no idea what discussion you actually want.
How about just spending more time and effort on getting people registered and to the polls? One of the reasons we have a democrat in the Senate from Alabama is because there was less whining about all the obstacles in the way of a win and more action to ensure a win. You have less control over what the Republicans are doing to brainwash their voters, so act on what you do have control over.
No matter what role you conclude Thibs had in this....it's impossible to spin it as a positive right? I mean, it's just varying degrees of "WTF?" incompetence.
Polanco's OPS and wRC+ would still be top 10 as a second basemen. You lose a little bit there, but gain a lot defensively. Basically, he's a premium hitter whether he plays 2B or SS, so better that he plays the position where he can be a plus defensively rather than a minus.
Oh, I agree. Letting him practice today was a stupid. But again...that's Thibs. He wants to make this work. He's been willfully ignoring this mess for months and it has caused irreparable harm in the process. Now he's willfully enduring this gong show for the same reason. Good riddance to him and Jimmy, they seem to deserve each other. They try to talk an unselfish game, but they are every bit the opposite.
