  1. That Nelson Cruz trade is looking more and more like a heist.
  2. I am so over the defense of "all opinions should be heard". No. No they shouldn't. If you're misleading, lying, vacuous, nonsensical, or any other form of "This isn't well intentioned or well reasoned"....screw that. Not only do you not deserve to be heard, we should actively stop your nonsense from infecting otherwise reasonable and interesting discourse. If my wife and I are discussing our plans for the weekend and I want a serious discussion about space travel to the Kepler system....she would rightly tell me to shut up. We teach kids from a young age to have well reasoned, on topic discussions. Then as adults we seem to think letting any inane, down right stupid, harmful, or malicious conversation happen out of some misguided notion of free speech is ok. It's preposterous.
  3. Suggesting we ease Buxton back in from this injury at DH makes sense for a few days if we aren't putting him on the IL. It's not unlike what happens in rehab assignments where players work their way back in phases. Leaping from that to regular DH time is preposterous. Randball Stu would be proud of that kind of premise. Byron Buxton gets hurt doing pretty much everything involved with playing baseball. If he's healthy enough to play....you play him in CF.
  4. They are a nightmare matchup for Memphis. I think we win this series.
  5. I think this is ahead of the curve and a good idea. Much better for families with kids.
  6. Hmmm, I'll add it to my list. We just started Mr. Mercedes after we finished the Outsider. Anyone with a take on either of them?
  7. My wife and I really loved the characters in the Good Place. I wonder what you'll think about the series as time goes on, but we laughed a lot at the show. Good philosophical underpinnings too! I'm into Picard, I have to give Discovery a chance. (Assuming you mean Star Trek) Ditto on Moon Knight, has a cool vibe so far.
  8. It definitely could be a step back for this year. If Rogers is healthy and at his best he's among the best left handed relievers in the game. At the same time, he was likely gone in a short while and we get a guy in Pagan who has been very good in the past and has some peripherals that indicate it wouldn't take much to get back there. If Paddock hits....that's a lot more innings of help than either of the relievers. One thing is for sure.....Duffey has never had a problem letting the moment be "too big" for him. I hope the loss the other night leads us to go with Duran and Alcala in crunch time situations. Even at his best that hasn't been Duffey's strength.
  9. Agreed, I don't hold that expectation for them. But I'm ready to give them all the credit if they can! You can only judge trades, at the time, by the thought process. IMO, this is exactly how a FO should act....expiring RP dealt for controllable, upside SP. I take that all day.
  10. Larry Rothschild was the former, now fired coach, which supports that final paragraph.
  11. I totally understand apprehension about dealing our most reliable reliever over the last few years for Paddock. I really do, that's a fair reaction. What's not fair is to consider Paddock nothing more than a "back of the rotation", "declining", etc. That's a framework that is unfair, bordering on ridiculous. Chris Paddack was one of the 20 most valuable pitchers in the league (maybe top 10) prior to the pandemic. This is a kid with serious stuff and serious chops. He's 26, not 29 or 30. Let's assess him for what he is: a young player who has had a stirling young career that got derailed in a weird as hell sophomore year and couldn't bounce back his third year. This is a swing at having three controllable years of a guy with serious upside for a very good, very known quantity on an expiring deal. Any FO that doesn't take that swing isn't doing their job. Now the guys they hired to make that upside a reality need to do their part.
  12. Well damn....just get an ace! Genius! They have those for, like, 6 for a $1 down the road. How foolish we haven't pounced! Sneak preview: "Twins acquire reincarnated Cy Young" h2oface: "Eh, I mean, yeah, he's Cy Young incarnate but his jersey seems a little loose. D- on the deal"
  13. I like the Kepler/something for Snell/Gore type of framework. Max is a good player but the system is flush with corner OFs. I see Austin Martin as a future LF, so we might as well open up RF for Kiriloff or Larnach. Snell has fluctuated between elite and above average and his contract is kinda friendly given that. (And not that much different than Kep's. Similar control and price point relative to production and position) I hope the Twins are at least considering it.
  14. Trout has had two years that look like Byron Buxton's whole career. 30 years old is about the time you might expect less durability and less peak performance. Read: Injuries aren't just luck, they involve the ability of each individual's body to withstand the contact and physical exertion inherent in playing the sport. Buck has managed to let outfield walls, slides into bases, fouls off his foot, pitches, and the act of running all land him on the DL. (Often for far longer than expected) If you can't be more durable at 25 than a 30 year old, it doesn't speak well of your own future in your 30s.
  15. I'd prefer less question marks too. Ultimately the FO is banking on the near-ready crop of arms they have. Their future and the team's future hinges on those young arms. I'm not sure acquiring Montas necessarily changes that either, fwiw. (It'd help, certainly, but the eggs are in one basket at this point)
  16. The idea that injuries are driven by luck is not scientifically valid. Some humans are just less resistant to injury than others. (I've linked the science on this before, I can dig it up again if needed) It has nothing to do with their athletic ability or any personal choices, just genetics. "Injury prone" is not something the vast majority of athletes just magically escape out of luck. People will say , yeah, but....Paul Molitor or Robert Smith! Yeah, we remember the exceptions because the horde of dudes who had their careers cut short aren't as memorable. I think our best hope with Buck is to have a good enough plan B and hope his inevitable injuries are short-lived and we only lose 100 or so ABs and not 300 or 400.
  17. Winder is 25. There is no reason to keep him down if the talent is screaming "ready".
  18. Yeah, but you analyzed it and, like, thought about it and stuff. So, it's not fair to make an argument like this.
  19. Gee, can think of some local posters who might have been an inspiration. Well done.
  20. This is the kind of even-handed, nuanced analysis TD is known for!
  21. Live shot of @Nick Nelson working on the SS positional analysis he started:
  22. Haven't the Twins been on the frontline of hiring some gurus to work on defense? I feel like I heard they had a guy who Garver was raving about. Maybe they're banking on some coaching.
  23. And that's if things go poorly this year! It's a move with very little downside and a ton of upside. It's pretty rare to pull of a trade that leaves little long term risk, lots of short term upside, improves your team, and pisses off the Yankees using them as dupes.
  24. Except it really is. If Correa opts in his old agent gets paid and not Boras. That isn't happening. But I'm totally fine with the one year. It's hard for this to be an utter failure unless Correa gets a massive injury.
  25. What financials? Correa will opt out so that Boras gets full pay for his next deal. The Twins will just have a chance to convince him he can win here and pay the piper to keep him. If things go south? Trade him as a high end rental at the deadline. He hits FA next year no matter what. The FO had a budget to work under (as they all do....newsflash for some of our more persistently, purposefully naive posters) and turned theirs into a better roster since the end of the lockout.
