  1. Yes, he is a FA but people are acting like once the Twins get rid of Suzuki the catching position will improve. Unfortunately the catching position will be worse this season and next. Getting rid of Suzuki (for nothing) doesn't make the Twins better. I am fully aware that Garver has played 12 games in AAA. That is essentially 0 in the big picture of things.
  2. I remember. Your rank icon was 'I need more shoes' or something.
  3. Not sure what you mean by this. A Wolves forum is a great idea but it requires a strong starting user base, article writers and a steady stream of new users not currently on the MinnCentric sites. And probably a lot more. I enjoy checking a few threads (which is one thread) on here about the Wolves but don't have the time to follow an entire forum.
  4. The group was formed on ESPN's fan forums (whatever they were called) much earlier but that sucked overall so they started the site in 2006. I went from lurker (on ESPN) to a regular. And here we are a decade later...
  5. I will revisit this next year. What MiLB options? Garver isn't skipping AAA although he is the one guy that interests me long term. Turner is the next Drew Butera. Centeno is a backup. Perhaps they bring in a decent FA but most likely we will hate what we get out of the catcher position during the first half if not the whole season.
  6. The problem is that they are truly independent sites. That gives them more potential to take off since they will attract new users with a custom site vs a sub forum on the Twins site but I really can't be bothered to switch sites and track another full forum. I really don't have time to even pay attention to this forum and will probably just disappear at some point. Fact of the day - I joined BattleYourTailOff 10 years ago when that forum was launched. It has since shut down/merged with this site.
  7. Duffey failing this year is definitely one of the five worst things that has happened this year as far as the long term Twins are concerned. They needed a few reliable starters (let's say 4.00 ERA guys) so the team has a chance but instead Hughes ripped up his arm, Duffey completely sucks and Gibson has been disappointing. I am not concerned about Berrios yet but he might not be a solid MLB pitcher as soon as he is needed (now). This rotation is completely awful and will likely be completely awful next year also. I think part of the reason that he is still in the rotation is that the FO/staff can't believe that he isn't doing well. He has good K and BB rates. As mentioned above he is getting killed with runners on base, a .334 BAPIP and by a 20% HR/FB rate. Some appear to have jumped to conclusions that he can't pitch with runners on base but we are still dealing with small sample sizes (211 batters faced). Further backing up the small sample size angle is that his runners on vs bases empty splits weren't as significant last year. Nor was his HR/FB%. We really don't have enough data to say anything right now. I will make a bold (extremely bold) prediction that Duffey turns it around next season and becomes the solid starter that many expected this year. I probably let him continue pitching this year in the hopes that his ERA starts matching his xFIP and he looks like he has potential going into next season. There just aren't a lot of options to replace him.
  8. I will repeat he was getting 2 starts per week. Not zero.
  9. Vargas was getting 2 starts/wk. Are you saying that 3 starts/wk would have been alright?
  10. I play some here in Taiwan and enjoy the walking part. The rest of Taiwan is absolutely crazy for this game. Disclaimer - I have seen nothing like this in Taiwan's second city of Kaohsiung (1+M pop). This is in Taipei (the link and video is in Chinese but you can understand what is going on) http://m.appledaily.com.tw/realtimenews/article/new/20160821/933224/
  11. It is irrelevant when the MRI was taken so the 13 AB hitless sample size is also irrelevant. According to Berardino he has had the injury for at least 2 weeks and possibly all of the August since that is when he started DH'ing a lot. This has been his best month of hitting so far. But more importantly the blame shouldn't be placed on Polanco and Plouffe. Vargas's loss of playing time appears to be directly related to Sano's tweaked arm. Maybe he should go to the DL but I am DEFINITELY not making any decision about Sano because Vargas needs playing time. If Sano can play then he is DH'ing.
  12. People really need to get the facts straight and blame the right people if there is actually anyone to blame. He didn't lose time to Polanco and Plouffe during the first week of August. He lost time to Sano. Are you suggesting that the Twins don't play Sano? Or do you really think they are going to bench Mauer? rotoworld on 8/15 (Actually Berardino)
  13. People seem to have left out Sano's tweaked arm. He was DH'ing a lot before Plouffe came back and I wouldn't be surprised if he would be DH'ing a lot if Plouffe wasn't playing 3B. So if Sano is at DH and is going to play and Mauer is at 1B and he is going to play (until his recent tweaked quad then Vargas is going to be on the bench a lot. And he has been unfortunately. Sending him down (or putting Mauer on the DL) is probably the right move. This is the roster situation that the Twins are in right now. Too many DH's and 1B. Did anyone ever think that would have been the case 10 years ago. I like Vargas a lot and this sucks though.
  14. This continues to be one of TD's weaknesses (not all but many). Continual posts about player X needs to be called up after limited time in AA/AAA. Look at this player's dominance for 2 months - 1 month - 6 days - 3 hours. They need to be promoted to the Twins right now.
  15. No, actually he is a 1.7 WAR player in 78 games. His numbers can drop considerably and he is likely still a 2 WAR player. Perhaps you missed my look at his stats but I completely expect his HR rate to drop. And even if it does he is still good.
  16. It is quite likely that 2017 is worse at catcher also. Garver most likely needs at least half a season in AAA and playing him for the last 6 weeks doesn't change anything the Twins will do this offseason. It is also unlikely that the Twins pursue a significant trade or a major FA either. It is also possible that w/o Suzuki the catching position becomes a complete dumpster fire for 6 weeks. This isn't awesome for the pitching staff or the team. Let's not forget that the team has been playing very well in July and August (24-18). The record for the season will be atrocious but I think it is good for young players to win games. And people need to stop act like a catcher doesn't get regular days off. This isn't like a 3B that plays every day. I think Garver will be called up and think it is likely that Suzuki only plays half of the games.
  17. Strange thing in this thread. It has been made abundantly clear that many would be happy to receive literally anything in return for Suzuki yet nobody has suggested that they outright cut him. And don't tell me that you care one bit if Pohlad saves a million dollars in some trivial trade. The catcher position has been a position of weakness for years but it is very likely that it becomes even worse in the near future. Sounds like an awesome plan.
  18. This thread has degraded into pointless nonsense. The amount of criticism handed out by not acquiring org filler (in this thread and others) is hilarious. And there is plenty of playing time for Garver even with Suzuki on the team. He isn't getting called up (and almost skipping AAA) to be an every day catcher.
  19. And he is still a 2+ WAR player next season as a 24 yr old.
  20. If you look at some advanced stats then Kepler can 'slump' in some areas and still be really good. One thing I really like is this swinging strike % is only 8.6%. Sano, Rosario, Buxton and Park are all 13.5%. Kepler is in Dozier, Plouffe, Nunez and Escobar territory and means that there shouldn't be a surprise in K rate next year. In BAPIP he is at .277 and his MiLB BAPIP was .322 so it is likely to rise a little next year. He did post a .254 BAPIP in low A so he might a <.300 BAPIP hitter (MLB BAPIP usually drops from MiLB average). The fangraphs projections expect about .290 (a slight improvement). The big area of concern is that his isoP is .243 right now. This is where his most likely regression takes place. Next year this almost certainly drops below .200 (fangraphs has him .160-.170) but this is where the mysterious 'projection' comes in. He is a big strong kid that hits the ball hard. Does he end up around .200 in a few seasons or does he only have an isoP of .150. But he is a solid bet for a .750 OPS next year. And I would take the over. Conservatively he is a 2+ WAR player next year with potential for more.
  21. Buxton needs a reboot. I didn't think he should have been called like Brock mentions but I expected it because of lack of CF options in the org. My preference would be that he doesn't get a Sept callup nor does he get called up until mid season (or later) next year. Let's give him some real time in AAA to not only have a hot streak but also maintain that hot streak. His awesome 30 game streak this year still resulted in a 3:1 K:BB ratio, 20+ % K rate and an almost .400 BAPIP. Kepler is a classic case of a prospect that doesn't look like anything statistically but didn't outright fail. And he requires the mysterious words projection based on scouting analysis. Things don't always show up in stats. For example Travis Harrison has incredible power but he posts isoP's similar to a middle infielder.
  22. Age 24 and he isn't going to get better... But the main point is that someone needs to take his starting position by playing better. Unless of course you think that the Twins are going to make a major trade or sign a big FA. I only have 3 possible names within the next 3 years so he might be starting for awhile. Maybe a Jacque Jones level player for the Twins. Ideally a 4th OF'er but there has to be a better option.
  23. I certainly understand the pessimistic argument regarding Rosario. I think his ideal role on a playoff contender is as a 4th OF'er playing 100+ games all over the place and PH. But as the Twins are currently put together in addition to the upcoming prospects he is going to have every opportunity to keep his starting spot. And this isn't going to hurt the team much even if he isn't a plus player. For the next couple of seasons the only guys that I see with the ability to take away his starting spot are Kepler, Buxton and Palka. Kepler looks like he has secured his spot with solid peripherals (decent K:BB rates and low BAPIP with a .843 OPS) but even that isn't a lock for next season. Buxton has the upside but some question marks. Palka is intriguing (30+ HR power) but the K's are a concern. I don't see how Walker will contact enough balls in the majors. Granite could be a plan B in CF if Buxton actually does bust but he isn't going to push Rosario out of LF. Rosario will likely be starting for several years and that will be fine.
  24. Michigan Tech - not much else up aside from a few universities and some awesome vacation spots.
  25. I bring up Palka for everyday AB's and not to be a 4th OF'er. I would rather have Grossman PH instead of Walker. I don't think Walker is a MLB player and wouldn't want a K machine as PH. But the more important thing is that if you cut Grossman to bring up Palka or Walker then he is gone. If 1-2 of the OF'ers gets injured or needs a demotion then OF depth gets really thin really quick.
