  1. I have a feeling that if I don't see it tonight I won't be seeing it due to the crazy schedule that is coming up.
  2. That's a medium sized if for a 34 yr that went the R&R route with an elbow strain. I can't see teams at any point sending the Twins a top 50 prospect for Ervin. Getting a top 75-100 prospect now seems like a good get to me.
  3. Consider Gonsalves as the high point and Mejia as the low point then. And I think you are seeing separation on Twins prospect lists but where do these two fall on overall lists. Wouldn't Gonsalves be in the top 60-80 range tops? And Mejia would be in the 100-120 range?
  4. I was going to mention that some John Wall rumors would start up soon. Yes, I would do it. The Wolves would have to figure out a stop gap at PF but I would definitely take a near elite PG for Rubio, a solid rookie and Dieng who doesn't really fit well with Towns. It would be an absolute heist to get Wall without giving up Lavine. Towns and Wiggins are of course untouchable.
  5. Let's just dismiss this Profar talk when dreaming up a Ervin trade. The return that I would be targeting would be a borderline top 100 prospect at any position. Obviously a starting pitcher would be great but I wouldn't be choosy. Someone along the lines of Adalberto Mejia or Stephen Gonsalves. Even better would be to get a 2nd lottery ticket type in the low minors. Is this about where people are valuing Ervin?
  6. I said the team has average OR below average players up and down the MLB/MiLB depth chart. The Twins need everything right now. Players that are or with a very good chance of being above average Sano - not really a 3B Dozier - likely traded Kepler Buxton Gordon, Kirilloff, Polanco, Palka are nice prospects but not remotely close to being good bets to being above average at this point. The upside of a #1 pick isn't being blocked by anyone on the roster or in the system. The rest of the players will be moved to make room for that player.
  7. It seemed to be swept under the rug if that is what you mean by over. Fortunately/Unfortunately social media has been exposing things exactly like this and blowing them up. A video of a girl being gangbanged by ten men and supposedly saying stop on the video can instantly turn into the next Ray Rice/AP/Brock Turner disaster. The UM has chosen not to be on the 'didn't do enough' side. They might have handled this poorly due to the team threatening to boycott but this story is just starting I am afraid.
  8. Wasn't it always known that teams like the Tigers (and Red Sox) have those advantages?
  9. Perhaps amazing how the difference of there being a videotape or not can change the course of lives but participating in a 10 on 1 gangbang with a girl that was not enjoying it is not a little moment.
  10. Nobody is telling anyone how to have sex. The biggest part of this is that you definitely shouldn't videotape yourself doing it. And don't engage in acts that are WAY out of the norm. And during those acts ignore a girl that apparently has said stop at some point. What seems to have occurred in that video (I have no interest in watching it) is 100% not acceptable. And just because they aren't charging the players doesn't mean that they can't face university disciplinary action. There are a lot of things that aren't illegal that can lead to university dismissal or probation.
  11. Many rebuild through the farm teams spend a decade being terrible or mediocre and then have a short window of success. Very few can go on a run of a decade like the Tigers did. The Rays did it building through the farm but could only last 6 years and they have been one of the most successful teams to do it through the farm. But nobody is saying that this is the right way or the only way. It requires a team to spend a lot on salary and not every team that does it is successful long term. Dombrowski has been more successful than most of the teams that did it. The flaws of this approach are more evident when other teams have traded their farm systems for good but non-elite players. Sale is an elite player and it is very hard to lose that trade for the Red Sox. It can be a win-win though if the prospects realize their potential.
  12. I know this has been debated a million times but I am looking for a great to potentially elite player instead of filling a need with the #1 overall pick. Right now the team has average or below average players almost everywhere (including the farm system) so if this player realizes his potential then there will be space. Of course it would be great if that player was a pitcher or a SS (catchers at #1 overall scare me unless they are legitimately great prospects - Mauer - Posey - Wieters types)
  13. No, these players are representing an organization. And that organization is a university. They can be held to a higher standard and that is not a bad precedent. There is nothing wrong with releasing all of these players from their scholarships and cutting them loose. From the sounds of it - they were videotaped in a 10 on 1 gangbang and that is completely not cool for the vast majority of parents and the young adults potentially attending the school. The situation that is not a problem is if they are able to keep this kind of stupidity secret. I am certain that all kinds of stuff like this is going on but nobody knows about it.
  14. Santiago is a borderline non-tender for a reason. Nearly every team is willing to gamble in the draft rather than give up a draft pick for a sort of expensive one year rental.
  15. I would take back Kazmir or McCarthy if it allowed them to get the prospects that they really wanted - 2 of DeLeon/Bellinger/Alvarez and lesser prospects. This is exactly the type of thing the Twins should be doing right now. Their payroll will likely be <100M for the next 2-3 seasons. They probably shouldn't be making any HUGE signings in FA and everyone is still worried about spending money. I thought people were happy that Ryan was gone and there was a new FO.
  16. This is just ridiculous. The Tigers have continuously been one of the best teams in baseball over an extended period of time. It is impossible to never have a down season.
  17. Santiago isn't worth a comp pick even if the Twins picked up the entire salary. With that being said Santiago on a one year deal is exactly the type of pitcher the Twins need right now. He is just there to eat innings (and not kill the Twins in the process) until something better comes along. Hopefully that something better is Mejia (1/2 season plus away), Gonsalves (at least 1/2 season away) and DeLeon (trade?).
  18. Of course not all years are equal. There are very few teams that are great every season for a decade. There are very few teams that have had losing records twice in the last decade. That should be the point here. If this is the Red Sox future that you are warning us about then they should be very happy. And even now the Tigers aren't stuck with any bad long term contracts that you have warned about. They can go out and sign new aging veterans to retool. Things are not that bad in Detroit. On the South Side however things are ugly. This is kind of the polar opposite of the Tigers situation. The White Sox haven't enjoyed anything even close to the Tiger's success and they are now terrible with very little of a core. Of course they used their prospects to acquire good but not great players.
  19. I think this is exactly what Lev and I have been talking about. Moderate by the very nature of the word is talking about compromise and middle ground. There is a common middle ground on many issues for a lot of people. Unfortunately in order to get the party nomination for certain offices (esp on the GOP side) you almost need to take an extreme stance. And I think the democratic party will go in this direction during the next 4 years. The more moderate democratic party has completely screwed up the massive advantage that they should have as the country has become more liberal. The DNC (and Hillary) should get blasted for letting a gift wrapped election slip through their fingers contrary to Dave's opinion that Stein/Johnson/Bernie/etc cost them the election.
  20. If he is just a .280 hitter with 15 HR's and good defense then he is an above average player. That is an excellent value for 9M/yr and as a 3rd/4th piece. He needs to mature as a player but this is a buy low time unless the Dodgers still expect a lot for him.
  21. No progressives don't equal alt right in the sense that you think they do but there are too many that completely disagree with the level democratic socialism that Bernie is pushing. Luckily the far left progressive movement isn't completely illogical but it is quite frustrating to read article after article that amounts to a war on businesses. I'm sure you won't like that analysis but that is where the far left wants to go. Some good aspects but it is too far, too much for many to support. An example of this would be the conservatives that supposedly could reject the alt right movement. In the last election I know many people that are good people and reject the alt right movement but voted for Trump because they wouldn't even go as far as the moderate socialism that the democratic party is pushing. They definitely won't desert the GOP if the democrats shifted significantly to the left. And that is the problem. They will continue to vote GOP even if they disdain the alt right movement. When I was suggesting that there would be 3 parties potentially as major players in the next election I wasn't suggesting that a new moderate party would be formed. That new moderate party is already in place. The new party would be an evolution of the green party that branches off from the democratic party made up of fed up Bernie/Occupy supporters.
  22. Absolutely correct. I see the Dems going the route of the alt right and launching a very strong Occupy/Bernie based progressive movement. I have said this before but I think we could have 3 substantial parties in the next election. Far right - moderates/establishment (probably democratic moderate led but absorbing moderate republicans) - progressives. It is very easy to see the extremes on both sides but many (like myself) don't really want to have anything to do with either extreme. If people thought this election was crazy then I think they need to be prepared for an even crazier election in 4 years.
  23. Puig is a bit like Carlos Gomez. You can see so much talent when he plays but he is so undisciplined in all aspects. If he puts it together then he is a borderline yearly all-star just Carlos Gomez was. I am fine with the buy low part but he needs to be the 3rd or 4th player in the deal with Deleon/Bellinger/Alvarez being the first 2 pieces). I find it puzzling about this talk of 17.4/2 years to be a big deal. If they swap Dozier for Puig (financially) then the payroll is still a hair under 100M with Ervin (could be traded) and Santiago on the team. I thought we had a new FO and were sick of penny pinching. Bad clubhouse guy? Whatever.
  24. You are limiting it to the presidential candidates. There were many in the republican party that started to oppose Trump but had to tone it down for fear of losing their own support. And this has been going on for the last decade since the Tea Party was created. It is getting harder and harder to be a moderate in the GOP.
  25. But this is what I was talking about when I said mob rule. The mainstream Republicans can't do anything substantial until the bulk of their party turns against Trump and the alt right. The moderate republicans that tried to oppose Trump (and Cruz/Carson) during the primaries got crushed or suffered in popularity (like Paul Ryan). In the previous elections we already saw this happening at all levels of elections. It is getting very difficult to survive in the GOP as a moderate right now.
