  1. I finished the Game of Thrones books (1-5) this winter. The most interesting book that I have read recently was 'All the Light We Cannot See'. The young girl in the story has a bit of an Anne Frank vibe. Similar age and lives in Nazi occupied France. The story is quite different. She is blind but memorizes parts of cities due to her father. The story also follows a German boy that becomes an self taught expert in radios. Right now I am reading a couple of Jason Bourne novels that were given to me years ago. I got sick last week and wanted some light reading.
  2. I also don't know anything either but if SDSU and UND meet in the Elite Eight I have a chance of winning the whole thing.
  3. The tools and raw hitting ability are certainly there. He will need to show atypical improvement to realize it. But if he only improves a little from his career averages and puts up a .275/.310/.450/.760 line with above average corner OF defense then he is an average or better starter. I can live with that.
  4. Except when your target is Paul George or Jimmy Butler (the names you mentioned). Aside from the Boogie trade, teams want a top piece back (top 3 or higher pick) or someone with elite potential. That is the problem here. You are trying to make a quantity trade by putting in any (and pretty much every) somewhat valuable asset the Wolves have. Yes, these trades happen but they are somewhat rare. The Wolves more likely can pick up a player at the level of Tyreke Evans, Demarre Carroll or Trevor Ariza without giving up a top asset (or in FA) to create a dynamic 3 player wing rotation. Don't get attached to those names in particular but rather the pretty good NBA player level that they are at. Those guys might not be good fits on this particular team and/or available. The Wolves don't really need to add a star to this roster. They need to add depth in the #3-#8 options. Rubio, Dieng and Lavine are legitimately good players (maybe not all together) but they need to decide if Dunn, Jones and Bjelica are really 20+ min/night players. And they need to find a way to keep the Rush's and Bazz's out of the rotation.
  5. It is like fantasizing about Twins trades. You know and I know that player X isn't very good but this opposing GM will value him like the 2013 BA prospect ranking that he once had. Guess what? If you know something then so do the GM's.
  6. Would both of these be contrary points to how valuable you made that trade package out to be?
  7. Aren't we in circular argument? By all means if the Wolves can land the ideal larger wing with a Lavine based package (include Dunn and the pick) then they should do it but I think the number of teams that actually match up is really, really limited. It only takes one though. And while you were addressing a 30 minute starting role, you completely depleted the bench of any depth (loss of Dunn and the top 10ish pick). that remains a problem.
  8. Herein lies the problem. If you know this and I know this then he isn't part of a Butler or George level trade. The other GM's know this type of stuff also. I think he is probably more valuable in the alpha role on the second unit in 20 min/game than for whoever he can be traded for.
  9. I always thought that the regional sports stations paying these ridiculous prices for the local sports team broadcast rights would have been the first to collapse. Yes, I can understand that sports fans will watch their local team but the prices paid for some of these rights (not the Twins) were downright ridiculous. It will be interesting to see if these rights start going down in value and how it impacts MLB/NFL/NBA/NHL salaries.
  10. The other factor is that players w/o contracts have options to go down. Once you cut a big contract then that player is no longer an option.
  11. that is really the issue. Openings are likely to occur very, very quickly and every young pitching prospect worth pitching is going to get a chance. As a matter of fact with the uncertainty in our 'set' rotation and the inconsistency of the prospects coming up I think it is only a matter of time before the 'Pat Dean's and Yohan Pino's' of the 2017 season are up. I am really pulling for Hughes but I think the O/U for him this year is 8 games before heading to the DL or bullpen because of ineffectiveness. There will certainly be opportunities for the prospects.
  12. These locks should change nobody. Pitchers without options earning fairly significant guaranteed money (spring training cuts of arb contracts like Santiago or Gibson are extremely rare AFAIK) will always have to pitch themselves out of the rotation. And I highly, highly doubt that any young pitcher worth pitching (not the Pat Dean's) at the MLB level will get a fair shot. If they don't then they are not pitching well. It is possible that they come up 6-10 starts later than wanted but they will get their shot. This rotation (and the prospects coming up soon) looks mediocre (definitely not great) and that is discouraging. The Twins really needed 1-2 young starters to concretely claim a spot in the past 2 years. Instead Duffey bombed out spectacularly with A LOT of leash given, May got lost in the bullpen, Berrios bombed in his 1st season, Gibson has fizzled and Meyer never got a shot (nor really made a case for it with a 4.50 BB/9 in AAA).
  13. I will take the under since I would have placed the O/U at 72.5 or 73.5. I think the Twins need quite a few things to break their way to sniff .500 (say 78-79 wins) but only a couple of things need to go wrong to be in the 65-70 range. Again... Just my two cents. I think the team has potential but I need to start seeing production out of the young core instead seeing potential. Some have had great (or at least very good) moments but none have had any sustained production.
  14. He could be the starter but go to the bench early such that Wiggins and Lavine's minutes are more staggered instead of together. His first sort of big contract is coming up soon (this summer?) and the Wolves hold the leverage since he has limited options until he is unrestricted. Try to get him on a contract similar to Dieng (a bit higher likely but he is coming off of injury). That would lock him up at a reasonable price for 4 years. After that (or near the end of that), he can be moved. Obviously if you can get Butler or George for a package with him in it (and basically anyone not named KAT or Wiggins) then go for it but that seems unlikely. He definitely isn't untouchable but there is no need to trade him.
  15. that isn't what I am saying at all. And your description of possible trades are exactly why Lavine isn't going anywhere. Look around the league at SF that are good matches for this team and then eliminate all of them that are basically unavailable. You are probably left with a Jimmy Butler and that might be it. Injured Lavine isn't going to headline a Butler trade even though that would be awesome. I think Lavine is miscast aside Wiggins but that doesn't mean that he doesn't have a big role on the team. Wiggins plays 32 min/game and Lavine is THE GUY on the second unit for 16 min/game. Having a competent 2nd unit is going to be one of the biggest things that hold the Wolves back in the future. In addition to that Lavine plays another 8 min/game with Wiggins and they find a way to make it work. This won't work long term when Wiggins and Towns start getting paid and Lavine is bringing in a Dieng level contract but he will be a tradeable commodity at that time.
  16. I still don't really understand this logic though. It leads to 20-25 min/game from guys like Shabazz or Rush. Bench depth is the thing that continues to kill this team and people keep wanting to trade guys that definitely have a role in the team's top 8 rotation. For example, we need to trade Rubio to play Dunn more or trade Lavine and continue to have no wing depth. Obviously Lavine shouldn't be considered off limits in major trade discussions like he was debated in the fantasy Butler trade talks but he is currently injured and not likely to have any real trade value until next year's deadline.
  17. It doesn't really look like they dropped off much since Lavine got hurt. They had started playing well before the injury and since they continue to really in games they should win (bad teams), play competitive against .500ish teams and mostly lose against good teams (UT and HOU victories though). And they are doing this with Rush pretty much not doing anything at the wing. KAT and Wiggins have been monsters for the last month. Two great signs for the future.
  18. It is nice of Reusse to say something ridiculous for those slow winter days when nothing else is happening. I am terrified to think of a Polanco/Sano left side of an infield this year. I think the right move is to play them for the development of both (and Vargas) to see what you have with those players but I am not sure that either of them plays more than a season or two at SS/3B. And it is almost impossible that they continue to play together on the left side of the infield.
  19. This is pretty meaningless. Basketball is not baseball. Basketball requires that you go 2 deep just to play a single game and you don't make a team better by trading away your best player at a position even if that player isn't ideal. Rubio has his flaws but right now Dunn WISHES that he was as good as Rubio and possesses many of the same flaws. The only casualty of the Wolves logjam is that lack of development or playing time for Tyus Jones. Despite him being able to come in shoot I don't think anybody really feels that he is a starting PG caliber player running the offense or defensively. Thank goodness this Rose for Rubio trade fizzled.
  20. I wish the Wolves had to worry about too many capable players at other positions. And so far Dunn doesn't seem very capable.
  21. I get this feeling that if the Wolves dump Rubio they will end up regretting it. I understand wanting a better shooter but Dunn is nothing more than a shiny new toy with the same problems as Rubio. He can't shoot either so anyone that criticizes Rubio for that deficiency shouldn't be clamoring for Dunn. the Rubio for Rose trade would be nothing more than dumping Rubio future contracts for taking on Rose right now. I really don't see the point unless the hope was that Rose would somehow run the team well and they could bring him back on a short contract. That has terrible idea written all over it. And Rubio has been playing well in Jan/Feb. Possibly small sample size but he was also dinged up pretty bad early in the year. 11 ppg - 10 apg - 2 spg - 40% shooting.
  22. Of course if you can get a haul for Lavine then it is great to trade him but I see him as a dynamite 24+ min/game sixth man. Yes, there will be payroll concerns someday when everyone starts getting PAID! but that won't be an issue for awhile and he will still have really good value in a trade.
  23. The Wolves were really starting to find their rhythm (beating teams that are bad, winning some against okay teams and playing well against good teams) before Lavine got hurt. Since he got hurt they have been inconsistent but Wiggins and Towns have had some monster games. Is it possible that Lavine and Wiggins really aren't a good combo together (as has been suggested)? How can the Wolves solve this issue since Lavine is definitely one of their 5 most talented players? Could Lance become a 24 min/game starter (not better than Lavine) that minimizes the amount of time Lavine and Wiggins play together?
  24. Because of 200 PA's in 3 different seasons?
  25. 350 AB's is a pretty small sample size especially considering inconsistent playing time.
