  1. There is no way he was worth any of that? 21 million? Come on, what was Yelich worth? 8 trillion? Using whatever formula that is every single player including Bobby Bonilla is underpaid in today's game.
  2. If there weren't a dozen holes on this team no one would care but they need to improve every pitching staff spot with the exception of Berrios. There is no way to be competitive with this god awful pitching staff.
  3. Boomstick! For the record I don't think Cruz will be blocking anyone that we actually would want to see more ABs from. I don't actually expect him to be around past July but at least he is a legitimate player that teams may actually want to trade for come the deadline.
  4. In contrast, if the league had used the two division per league format during these years the Twins would have played in a Game 163 in 2004 and won the division outright in 2006 and 2010. It is very sad that these are the so-called glory days of this franchise. Particularly the 2002-2004 Twins were fun to watch and 2006 is the great "what could have been" year but this franchise did absolutely nothing in-season to try and improve the team when Ryan was in charge. Their best moves were dropping the dead weight that Ryan insisted on dumping on the team year after year. Bill Smith actually improved his teams in-season but the rest of his moves were criminal. I actually appreciate these teams less the further in the review they get as it's just annoying how poorly they were constructed.
  5. Get out of the damn dumpster. These two won't help the Twins this year and they won't bring anything worthwhile back in trades. Please, Please, PLEASE change your entire mindset as a front office.
  6. JFC, by the time they figure out what to do Buxton, Sano, Rosario, and Berrios will be hitting free agency.
  7. If Schoop was 39 and three years removed from playing MLB I would agree. I like Schoop the player. I hate one year contracts.
  8. Agreed, but you have to take incremental steps to improve your team. Sign a couple real players each off-season and suddenly you're a good team. Signing no one year after year and hoping for every single internal candidate to take five steps forward is a recipe for disaster.
  9. This roster looks like a 65 win team right now. Adding three or four bargain basement FA makes this team a 68 win team. Make some real moves to show you have some sort of interest in winning for a change.
  10. My idea of using the farm system is by trading question marks for established players. How many prospects are really going to cause people angst that they got rid of for a stud like Goldy?
  11. Donaldson is the best of the bunch but I'd be very concerned with his durability. It would be nice to nice to add some more swagger to this team, however.
  12. It reminds me of the Twins fan that made the sign for Game 163 a couple days of Cabrera got a DUI: .323 Miggy's BA or BAC?
  13. Wally Backman. The worse the season is going the more entertaining it will be. We'll be praying for losses just to see some meltdowns.
  14. I always though Showalter was at the head of the analytics charge even as early as the 90s when he was with the Yankees. His issue was over-analzying everything, at least when he was with the Yankees.
  15. I think this season had more of a 68 win feel than 78. The record suggests mediocrity but I think this season was nothing short of a failure. Berrios going into the offseason healthy is probably the best thing that happened to this team.
  16. If it turns out Mauer isn't in the lineup or doesn't retire you can always tell your son that his first game was Johnny Fields's last.
  17. I think you missed a step after 2 in order to make 3 a possibility...
  18. Molitor had a quote in the STRIB yesterday that Hildy has shown he isn't intimidated by the ninth inning. I would say the exact opposite as he has been terrible since taking over closing duties. I fear if Molly is around next season that Hildy will be our closer.
  19. The silver lining is that Hildenberger is pitching himself out of what I assumed would be the closer role next season if he was even reasonally competent.
  20. Simple solution: Bring back the Reserve clause. Wishful thinking on my part. I'd be a bigger fan of free agency if my team ever used it to their advantage.
  21. He reminds me of Deduno. He's not really that great, but he's interesting and the exact opposite of every other player on this roster so we want to keep him just because he is different.
  22. It's probably why the 2001-2003 Twins are my favorite squad ever. A.J., Doug, Guardado, and Hawkins were not the most talented group by I don't think anyone wanted it more than them. Add in a talented Torii, who also had an outgoing personality, and it was truly fun watching those teams.
  23. He is a guy that is easy to root for and I wish we hadn't suffered through five months of Bobby Wilson for it.
  24. Yes, it's all over the league and it's ridiculous. I think signing guys like Yelich and Cain and trading for Moustakas and Schoop is what we would strive to be. Their pitching is still horse **** and they probably won't even make the playoffs.
  25. It's about time for Terry to ride in on his white horse again to whittle payroll.
