  1. No, but I have been on the very top of my pulpit calling out crappy reporting. The reporting was absolutely unacceptable. It wasn't until Dan Hayes a couple days ago that someone actually indicated they had asked someone a simple question. Meanwhile, I've made a quick list of pitchers who were traded that make less money (AAV) than our new hero. Some are not fits, some are. They were all obviously available, and for less money than our new friend. Several really nice names were just a touch higher priced but still under a million of difference. I'm lazy and the list is long. Trevor Rogers Enyel De Los Santos Tanner Banks Dylan Floro AJ Puk (as you astutely call out in the game thread) Nate Pearson Bryan Koeing JT Chargios Huascar Brasoban Tyler Zuber Lucas Erceg Mike Baumann Mark Lieter Jr Josh Walker Quinn Preister Jalen Beeks Names that are just a few pennies higher Hunter Harvey Lucas Sims Caleb Ferguson Andrew Chafin (kinda expensive) Seranthony Domingez There is another 15 names that make real reliever money, but still only a couple mill for the rest of the season. Even the most curmudgeonly reports had them able to spend a couple mill. Even if a couple mill was a stretch, they can offset it easily somewhere else. No sir, this wasn't about money. They got their guy, for better or worse. There were at least 2 dozen relievers moved, plus probably more available, that fit under the dollar value of what they actually did. Question the baseball moves all you want, I know I am, but this isn't about money. Our guys have a plan, and it ain't your plan. You don't have to like it.
  2. I'm not testy, and have not been saying any such thing. Good reminder though that we still have no idea what happened or didn't today and why. Assuming you are suddenly proven correct without any details is a fine example for others not to follow. Maybe it's the caretaker in me coming out but the comment I called out is the weakest possible contribution to a conversation we could ever see. I expect that from primepopkins and reddit but we should be better than that. Have you ever read the terms of service?
  3. In fairness to me, that was before the Flaherty move. I said in another thread it seemed quite cheap, but a song relative to everything else is not an exaggeration. Probably the only guy that went, that I would have liked to have at cost, that money was possibly a factor on. Detroit had no motivation to pick up salary.
  4. Return for Flaherty seems kinda light.
  5. The more important question might be the 40 man spot. Another move likely coming, even if just a DFA.
  6. If no big time starter moves, I'm willing to assume prices were astronomical. Got it, pivot. Interesting in this Marlins move is that Scott hasn't gone yet and the Orioles are probably out in him. What does a package deal of Scott and the Nard-dawg cost? Something similar to this I'd have to assume. Two stud lefties added to pen changes the complexion of everything.
  7. He was a top 100 guy last year. Currently fangraphs #19 and a 40 fv. I thought he was Colby Mayo for a second. Keaschall would have been a lot more but Schobel seems about right.
  8. Puts the whole just dig in your other pocket argument in a different light, doesn't it? If they are hemorrhaging elsewhere, the 30m pitcher is a luxury. Full grain of salt for internet "net worth" guesstimates but in Forbes 2015 they were 3.8b. Saw a few newer guesses at 3.6 but who knows. What I do know is that if they are roughly even with 2015 they have been losing their butts somewhere. Between inflation and the dow being almost triple 2015 something is very off.
  9. On the other hand, the system was not gutted by those moves. Two years later and we still have serious capital. I'm much more comfortable with taking a big swing knowing they are pretty decent at backfilling. Just gotta get the self scouting right.
  10. I could taste this post. Store bought meat wasn't in the budget though, always a Midwestern mystery. I don't like any of these names but I do think there is plenty of unknown value out there. I'd love to find this year's Cole Ragans even if it's less exciting for the next few months.
  11. Honestly this is the best of all the deadline proposal threads yet. It would be amazing to get an outsiders view in return.
  12. Giants selling Soler, have to think Snell is available as well. Yolo.
  13. I am exceptionally slow. But not that slow.
