  1. Just edited that. Based on what I've heard his arm is Revere-like...
  2. Did you catch McKay's reaction after he was drafted by the Rays as a first baseman? It was very telling
  3. Indeed. Plus addition by subtraction of the guy who started the season with Arcia and Sano at the corner OF positions and Plouffe at 3B.
  4. Toolsy High School Shortstop or Outfielder. Very different for the Twins to do something like this I really hope that he can bring in a top pitcher in a trade as soon as he is tradeable. Still long ways, but I don't think that he will be the No 1 prospect in my Twins' prospect list. This speaks tons about how I feel about this 1-1 pick.
  5. Re: breaking the current young core: If the current core (Sano, Berrios, Kepler, Polanco, Buxton) develop to be the players we want them to be, they will required contracts at the $20M/annual value a head. Will the Twins spend $100M+ a season for 5 players only? Highly unlikely. They will have to break that core. Pure math.
  6. Because there were not any good players to loose, to begin with, after TF was built
  7. Depth move. Newly promoted Yohan Pino and Matt Tracy have been horrible for Rochester. No MLB implications here, unless he pulls off a Turley.
  8. Drafting 3 preps that are 3-4+ seasons away from the majors, for a team that is competing and has a young core that will likely be broken when those preps are ready, and needs close to MLB-ready pitching really badly, makes zero sense. Especially drafting yet another middle infielder at 1-1, of whom the organization has plenty. They have to draft a close to MLB-ready SP. At this point, I'd go with the one who has the better record, and it looks like they will do that. And I'd rather see them draft Bukauskas or Faedo at 1-1 if that will save them $, than a HS SS. And I'd hope that someone like Romero falls at #35 and they go with a kid like Scherff (19 year old prep, plus FB, plus CH) at 37. But drafting a SS (or CF) at 1-1 makes zero sense
  9. That's why ERA is worthless. He gave up 3 runs and had a man on base. The next pitcher (Heston) made that guy score but it was charged of Turley. First inning he had the butterflies and regardless, he adjusted and kept the Twins in the game, which is more than can be said for someone like Santiago and Gibson (other than the latter's last appearance.)
  10. Gee. The "Sports Illustrated profile" was written by their basketball writer. Mercy. Greene is a good story. The fact is that McKay's numbers against major College competition are better than Greene's against Catholic High School competition, this season. Cut it any way you want to, but facts are facts. And if a guy can help the Twins next season or the one after that, when Sano and Kepler and Berrios and Polanco and Buxton etc will still be around, I'd take that over a guy who would need to spend 4 seasons in the minors trying to develop secondary stuff, or not. (*) The best prep pitcher I have ever seen pitching was Doc Gooden and his best pitch was his curveball. And he made it fast, and would had made it further, if not for the drugs... Greene is nowhere near that level by any means.
  11. Turley is under team control for 6 seasons including 2017, until his age 33 season. He was lights out at AA and good (albeit unlucky - .368 BABIP, 66.3% LOB%) at AAA. He improved his command and increased his velocity this season. He is a lefty. LHSPs do not grow on trees. The Twins should give him any possible chance to succeed. He is not Buddy Bo or Scott Diamond. He had video game numbers at AA...
  12. Those rankings do not mean that much, esp. for the kids that are unranked. There are 15 year olds there who just do not look like much at 15, but at 17 and 18 blossom. It is hard to evaluate High School graduates for the draft. Imagine evaluating HS freshmen and sophomores, because that's the age comparable. Thus the bias most prospect evaluators stateside towards players who were drafted and against young IFAs. Eg. In 2009 The Twins drafted Gibson, Bashore, Bullock (never mind), Tootle with their first 4 picks and signed Sano, Polanco, Kepler. Here were the Twins 2010 top prospects according to BA (Manuel) : 1. Kyle Gibson, rhp 2. Aaron Hicks, of 3. Miguel Sano, 3b/ss 4. Joe Benson, of 5. Ben Revere, of 6. Liam Hendriks, rhp 7. Alex Wimmers, rhp 8. Adrian Salcedo, rhp 9. Oswaldo Arcia, of 10. Carlos Gutierrez, rhp Which included all the past 1st Round picks who did not make it in the majors (Hicks, Revere, Wimmers, Gutierrez) and only a handful of IFAs (6-8) and Sano, who should had been number 1, of course.
  13. That's exactly what they are doing at the MLB and AAA level, and more will happen during the off-season.
  14. It could be an operating system/browser issue... With the latest version of the Windows after the latest update a few weeks ago, I have to use MS Edge to get MLB.tv.
  15. I would be disappointed if the Twins select someone because he plays ball in Minnesota. And it really has not panned out. Here is a list of the players that played in MN were drafted by the Twins and signed from 2000 on: 2000 - Andy Persby - 18th Round - out of affiliated baseball after 3 seasons 2000 - TJ Prunty - 21st Round - out of affiliated baseball after 3 seasons 2001 - Joe Mauer - 1st Round - MLB 2001 - Jake Mauer - 23rd Round - out of affiliated baseball after 5 seasons 2003 - Elit Tintor - 18th Round - out of affiliated baseball after 6 seasons 2004 - Glen Perkins - 1st Round - MLB 2004 - Joe Abellera - 21st Round - out of affiliated baseball after 2 seasons 2004 - Aaron Craig - 28th Round - out of affiliated baseball after 4 seasons 2006 - Mark Dolenc - 15th Round - out of affiliated baseball after 7 seasons 2008 - Kyle Carr - 12th Round - out of affiliated baseball after 3 seasons 2008 - Nate Hanson - 28th Round - out of affiliated baseball after 8 seasons 2009 - Derek McCallum - 4th Round - out of affiliated baseball after 3 seasons 2010 - Kyle Knudson - 10th Round - out of affiliated baseball after 5 seasons 2010 - David Deminsky - 44th Round - out of affiliated baseball after 1 season 2011 - Austin Malinowski - 16th Round - out of affiliated baseball after 2 seasons 2011 - A.J Pettersen - 25th Round - out of affiliated baseball after 4 seasons 2014 - Onas Farfan- 21st Round - out of affiliated baseball after 2 seasons So after 2004 nobody made it to the bigs, and in the last Millennium only 2 (and those were first round picks) did. Just the competition in the upper Midwest is not there. I don't want to see them waste picks on players like McCallum & Knudson & Carr any more. If Sam Carlson is there with the Twins second & third picks, I would not mind if they draft him, unless there are better pitchers like Seth Romero available. (*) Neshek was drafted in 2002 (6th round,) out of Butler in Indianapolis, so he is not on the list
  16. Lewin Diaz will be 23 in the 2019 season. He is Mauer's likely replacement
  17. So will the rest who are not playing the field like McKay does.
  18. Well... if this guy is a lefty and has been the most effective College pitcher the last 3 seasons, velocity or not, in a major conference, you kinda got to take him, no?
  19. From what I have been hearing McKay's secondary stuff is more advanced than Wright's and if this is truth, I'd take the lefty. One more consideration about the "velocity drop": Wright (and pretty much every other pitcher) gets 6 days of rest between starts. McKay takes batting practice, hits, plays the field and runs the bases between starts. Subtract that activity and replace it with rest between starts, and I suspect that his fastball will be up there I really wouldn't be disappointed if they took any College pitcher who can be there and help them when the young core is still intact. I will be disappointed if they buy on the hype about Greene or if they get a position player they don't need.
  20. Alrighty then, since I suspect you are talking from personal experience...
  21. Any Archer conversations will start with Berrios or Romero plus Gordon and will likely include Gonsalves and Jorge, and I am not even sure that this will make it done...
  22. Sanctions? Nah. Negative press, boycott, and demonstrations outside the ballparks when he is pitching will be enough.
  23. Lamahieu was an one year wonder last season and has returned to mediocrity. The Rockies would love to improve over his 78 OPS+, if they would like to compete further.
  24. Untouchable And I cannot stand his beard I like Cody Reed and Taylor Clark in that organization.
