  1. You may also compare and contrast Andy MacPhail and Terry Ryan. You can start with world championships or signing top tier free agents, if you like...
  2. I think that one needs to wait few years to see how it all pans out, before it is labelled "a great trade". If Liriano gets his act together and has a few great seasons, this would be "yet another great trade by Terry Ryan" like trading Kyle Lohse for Zach Ward... Give it some time...
  3. and the likes of Hoey, Gray, Manship, Vasquez, Dumatrait, Hacker, et. al. were?
  4. Right now the starting 1B in New Britain is projected to be Liddle's nephew who hit a Buteresque .198/.279/.347 at Ft. Myers at the second half or Mike Gonzalez who did not fare much better last season. Collabello/Clement will probably be at AAA. Really there is not much talent at 1B in this organization between Morneau and Vargas/Sano so it is not like they are blocking anyone with this. Smith played some 3B and OF as well, so just another body to have around...
  5. If it's nothing. I'll tell you where to wire it It is more that the $ (which, yes, in the MLB realm is nothing, on one hand, but it is everything on the other, if you are one of those players who are stuck at AAA and bypassed for others as far as promotions go. And if you don't believe me, just ask some of them...) It is the 40-man roster spot and it is the statement as well...
  6. I think that Colabello will be more likely than Clement at this point...
  7. indeed.
  8. Agree with JC, plenty of those guys, esp. at the higher levels, will no longer be with the Twins in 2 weeks. I still see Harden as a starter with the Twins (if everything works out) or gone by his opt out day (if not). Not a reliever in Rochester... Still not convinced that Burnett and Fien should make it up North. Burnett has been horrid pretty much every time (even against MiLB opposition - late in ST games.) I would also not count some listed as potential Rochester starters out of possible (long) relief roles. Someone needs to replace Swarzak. Cannot be Duensing any longer, so it will probably be someone who can pitch long and did not make the rotation (PJ Walters?? Deduno??? )
  9. So..... why again did the Twins offer arbitration to Butera and doubled his salary, instead of signing him to a MiLB contact (which is what he deserves?)
  10. He clearly states that he hasn't seen Buxton play, thus why he is reserved. Kudos for that as far as I am concerned...
  11. Unless I am blind, May
  12. here. No surprise that there are a lot of Twins' prospects, but there are a few surprises in the rankings (including a big one) and a notable prospect is left out...
  13. I can see Parmelee blocking another 1B or OF about the same way I see Kubel doing it. Parmelee is a DH on the field... Sano's biggest competition for 1B (which might actually push him to 3B same way Cabrera is playing 3B for the Tiggers) is his teammate Vargas (who was the best player at A last season; albeit couple years older.)
  14. You cannot even make it up...
  15. He is a great guy. Definitely deserves more of a chance than his teammate with Team Italy. Would be interesting to see what happens. He can provide a decent RH option off the bench. The next couple weeks, when the rosters shrink and the competition improves will be good to watch.
  16. Great stuff. I will be there part of next couple of weeks. Look really forward to that. One thing to watch is the energy of the players. Would be interested to see the non-verbals in the games...
  17. Good stuff. I miss Summit, just wish they were bit further reaching
  18. I really hope that the one Twins' pitcher who was left out (Rich Harden) has the best season of all the starters (and that he is starting), which would probably make this a competing team. Otherwise, until 2015, it will be hard to have a good rotation (or even decent for that matter.)
  19. no Pinto or Koch? I think that at least Pinto should be there on the top 3 and if Rohlfing did not have the spring he is having, I think Koch as well. Fernandez will be interesting to watch. He is a tall skinny kid that would need to fill in at some point and his first professional numbers were just not there.. (.571 OPS in Rookie ball)
  20. That does not happen there... if you are willing to go that route (it is illegal, but they do it a lot) expect to pay above face value.
  21. Blackburn and Oliveros were no-brainers. I am amazed that Harden and Perez are not in the list as well. Guerra too. They all will be out. Interesting to see whether Hermsen is still there tomorrow. He has been the most overmatched P out there whose initials are not AB...
  22. Methinks it was Luis Cruz and the idiot Mexican manager and the bigger idiot pitcher who started this thing and not Tosoni (but with Tosoni's new status as a cheesehead, I don't feel sorry for him.) Just keep Morneau away from it.
  23. Hold it now... didn't someone report the other day (Miller on twitter?) that he saw Plouffe icing his calf and he asked him about it and Plouffe's answer was something like "precautionary maintenance"? Likely more than that. Calf "strain" can be 2 things: Either a cramp or a tear. Having had both of those things, a cramp is not a DL-type situation, but a tear is not a "just a week" situation. It is more like about a month situation and then you are not 100% for a while. Just hope he is ok and starts the season healthy.
  24. Looks good. Somehow the RSS feed to the other Twins' blogs went away though
