  1. FWIW, I did not mind Hu, but I did mind Tapia. I think that he has a higher upside than Hu. And I would not mind trading them for an 8 inning guy, but Jepsen has a 0 fWAR this season. ZERO. Better than the Twins have, but still.... ZERO. Replacement level.
  2. Got to sell high. There are some disturbing things about Kepler, namely power or lack of (compare his numbers with Arcia's at this point,) defense, and speed. Kepler and Arcia are pretty much repetitive in the organization, with the difference that we know that Arcia will hit for more power (and the Twins do not have (m)any power hitters from the L side.) and Arcia's OF D has been improving while Kepler's declining. Kepler's ceiling? 2015 Mauer with less defense and likely less contact. In other words, Scott Stahoviak (who was highly rated also, btw, compare his MiLB numbers with Kepler's...) Sell High.
  3. 15? Try 21
  4. Terry Ryan at trading deadline: http://cdn.meme.am/instances/57529287.jpg
  5. The Astros and the Mets are about as surprising contenders this season as the Twins. As you can see, they are doing something to keep contending, unlike the Twins. This is the issue here.
  6. Give me a single time One That the Twins have hired a manager or general manager from outside during the Pohlad years? One
  7. Time? Ryan is on his 10th overtime. It was time 15 years ago or so. But. I do prefer him over Anthony. And just getting rid of Ryan and replacing him with the next Good Ol' Boy in line, will mean that this team will be titleless for another 24+ years. Need a brand new front office.
  8. Apples with apples. Compare levels and ages.
  9. He was. Until they messed up with his delivery this spring. Still has the best RH arm in the organization, as far as relievers go.
  10. No way Apples with apples: Buxton's career high in HRs was 12 in a full season (matter of fact his only full season) between A and A+ (574 PA age 19) Same age between A and AA (huge diff from A+) in a full season (590 PA) McCutchen had 17. That is 1.5x Buxton's rate. Then at age 20 McCutchen had 11 between AA and AAA. (570 PA) Buxton has only 271 career AA PA (and 6 HRs) and zip career AAA PA. Not sure where you got your numbers, but they don't add up
  11. Let's agree to disagree, and we shall see. There is a reason that I ranked Buxton as the number 3 Twins' prospect last off-season. I think that he is using his speed (which is better than McCutchen's) to get a lot of those base hits and doubles and triples. His hit tool needs a lot of work and I am not sure that it will end up being better than Coleman's. Of course he needs to quit hurting himself to play... We shall see.
  12. Same here, but it is not a very good comparison. At age 22 McCutchen had a .830 OPS in the bigs and never looked back. Buxton has another year to catch up, but his debut has not been exactly ground shaking... The more and more I am looking at Buxton, the more I think somewhere between Vince Coleman and Jose Reyes. He does not have the power or the hit tool of McCutchen. Could he develop it? Who knows.
  13. Have you noticed that those are the same people who were arguing that Sano was not "ready" because "he strikes out too much"? Coincidence?
  14. The best solution the Twins have is called Jorge Polanco, and there is no reason he should be in AAA over Danny Santana right now... I don't mind Escobar, and, yes, he is the best SS in the Twins' 25 man roster, he just is not their best MLB-ready SS right now.
  15. Including the year he got the Cy Young and Monreau the MVP and they were the favorite to win it all going into the post-season...
  16. And all Capps did was to put up the best numbers of his life (16/16 save opportunities 2.00 ERA, 1.185 WHIP - Better than the Twins' current closer btw,) and secure the post-season for the Twins. No Capps (and no Delmon, btw,) no 2010 post-season for the Twins. Let's not forget this... (and then Gardy in the post-season happened)
  17. Reyes was a guy with one plus tool (speed,) a decent hit tool (lots of IF singles) and a decent power tool (driven by doubles and triples mainly, but some gap HR power.) And then he started hurting himself. I am looking at players like Reyes, and that's why Buxton scares me. I don't want Reyes. The Twins already have a younger version...
  18. Are you sure about that?
  19. Not a bad reliever this season (2.74 ERA, 1.087 WHIP & 9 K/9 vs 5.30 ERA, 1.339 WHIP & 8.2 K/9 as a starter) An upgrade over Fien and Boyer and that 9 K/9 is better than Perkins. Pretty good 7th inning guy. A. The Twins need an 8th and/or 9th inning RHRP and B. He will be gone by the time the Twins are to claim.
  20. If this team stays pat, and do not make the postseason, Ryan & Co should follow Gardy's footsteps...
  21. Just AAA depth (but I'd rather see them promote Kepler).
  22. WAR is pretty good to answer this question. This table is from here from 2010, so Mauer's and Hunter's numbers are a bit off, but here are the top 10, and where Hunter is (Senators deleted) : Rank Name PlApp WAR 1 Rod Carew 6868 62.7 2 Harmon Killebrew 9387 61.4 4 Kirby Puckett 7750 44.8 6 Tony Oliva 6808 42.4 10 Chuck Knoblauch 4526 35.4 11 Kent Hrbek 7056 35.3 12 Bob Allison 5861 34.4 14 Joe Mauer 2959 33.1 17 Cesar Tovar 4509 25.8 20 Gary Gaetti 5385 23.8 ------------ 22 Corey Koskie 3222 21.1 26 Shane Mack 2397 18.5 27 Roy Smalley 4558 18.3 29 Larry Hisle 2711 17.5 30 Torii Hunter 4860 16.9 Not. Even. Close.
  23. Sure. He signed Micheal Bowden last week, and about to dive head first in the dumpster again.
  24. No way. Consalves is a top 10 Twins' prospect at this point, plus 2 years younger.
  25. That was a bummer. Aaron Slegers is a good comparable. Ryan could had bettered that. They have so many C+, B- type of prospects that they should be able to part with them right now... I'd give them Hu in a heartbeat, FWIW.
