  1. You assume that Odor punched Bautista because of his bat flip last season. I don't think that it was it. Ancient History. I think that Odor was reacting to Bautista's dirty slide that could had broken his leg. Odor was provoked and Bautista threatened his physical safety first.
  2. TR's latest dumpster dive find from the Independent Leagues: 28 year old soft tossing lefty, cup of coffee mopping up for St. Louis a couple seasons ago. Popped in New Britain to block the Fort Myers' phenoms from promotion.
  3. .318/.458/.500 Vargas' slash line in May 2.70 ERA, 0.750 WHIP, 9.5 K/9 Wimmers in May Hard to make conclusions about players with a colder than usual April Flankly, there are better people to move off the 40-man roster and most of them are in the Twins' pen. I'd move Walker off (by trade) before Vargas.
  4. When/if the Twins trade Dozier and Plouffe, the right move might be to get Beresford up. That should clear a lot of the Twins' problems right now.
  5. No I think that when one guy tried to break the other's leg with a dirty slide, he got punched on the face by his intended victim.
  6. Over-reacting a bit? Remember this? Not even sure that Ryan missed a start. What I don't get is how Jesse Chavez who hit Fielder after all this still remained in the game. That second brawl was on the umps.
  7. Um. Remember, those are the same people who got rid of probably their best catcher on the 40-man roster (J. Hicks) to accommodate David Murphy's ghost. And the same people who are currently wasting 40-man and 25-man spots on Mastroianni. Clueless. Keeping borderline pitchers and living on a prayer regarding the 2016 pen, instead of (let's say) trading for Craig Kimbrel.
  8. Burdi is hurt. Bone bruise. Part of the issue with Burdi is that the Twins thought that his delivery was "too violent" and messed with it at Chattanooga. Thus the walks last season. Finally got his act together late in the season and in time for the AFL. Got hurt this season. Hope he will be wearing a Twins' uniform this season because he is better than mostly every pitcher who did so this season.
  9. a. there were not MLB material to begin with - which means Deron Johnson needs to go. or b. the Twins MiLB development system has issues - which means Brad Steil needs to go. I'd fire them both, just in case.
  10. I agree with most of those moves, but they are hardly a "fix". The Twins are not 5 players away from getting "fixed". They need some drastic moves, like: a. Hiring someone from the outside above Ryan to assess the situation in the Front Office and Management b. Fire Brunansky right away. The K% before and after and for 3+ seasons is enough data. Bring up Jake Mauer as the hitting coach (he knew as a player how to take a few walks.) c. Fire Vavra right away and replace him with Mientkiewicz. Not only getting rid of the loser Karma from the Gardy years taint, you get Molitor's potential successor up there to light bit of a fire under him. I am all for bringing up young players, but you got to start them in the right positions. To do that, you need to trade both Dozier and Plouffe and get Sano and Polanco in their spots (with Polanco sliding at SS and Escobar/Nunez playing at 2B) This will get an OF of Kepler, Buxton, Arcia. Not bad. Got to get rid of some pitchers and fix the pen. That pen is hideous. Hughes in the pen will be an improvement. Hopefully Dozier and Plouffe will bring someone(s) serviceable there. Trading Arcia, the single MLB-ready serious power thread from the left side in the organization, before replacing him internally (Palka) or externally is inane.
  11. So: TR shot JR, or was it Antony?
  12. Number. Not amount. He is pedestrian
  13. Great stuff! Here are some actually potentially worse seasons (other than Rich Becker's 1995) Just Twins, no Senators. C Drew Butera 2011 .167/.210/.239 in 93 games 24 OPS+ (Walbeck's 43) 1B Dan Mientkiewicz 1999 .229/.324/.330 in 118 games 66 OPS + (Stahoviak's 82) 2B Al Newman 1990 .242/.304/.278 in 144 games 61 OPS + (Backman's 66) SS Jackie Hernandez 1968 .176/.218/.221 in 83 games 30 OPS+ (Guzman's 38) 3B Nick Punto 2007 .210/.291/.271 in 150 games 53 OPS+ (Valencia's 86) LF Rich Sofield 1980 .247/.287/.374 in 131 games 75 OPS+ (Willingham's 96) RF Hosken Powel 1980 .262/.312/.355 in 137 games 78 OPS+ (Arcia's 108!) RF Matt Lawton 1996 .258/.339/.365 in 79 games 78 OPS+ (Arcia's 108!) DH Glenn Adams 1981 .209/.273/.282 in 72 games 57 OPS+ (Doumit's 95) SP Brad Havens 1983 16 G 8.18 ERA, 1.842 WHIP 52 ERA+ (Blackburn's 56) SP Sean Bergman 2000 12 G 7.02 ERA, 2.118 WHIP 54 ERA+ (Blackburn's 56)
  14. Another one of those, and Nolasco is on pace to break Bert's record from '86
  15. That's 4. Who would be the 5th starter?
  16. Those are the same people who said that: Nishioka is a better SS option than JJ Hardy The team is better with Sano at RF and Plouffe at 3B Florimon is a better SS option than Escobar Santana is a better SS option than Escobar Mastroianni and Santana are better CF options than Buxton etc etc etc One at some point needs to quit taking what they say as gospel.
  17. Believe it or not, he is worse now for the Tigers
  18. What exactly is sad about Ryan getting fired (or rather re-retiring?)
  19. That's like saying that Ortiz should had replaced Mientkiewicz at first base. Polanco is the better SS in the long term.
  20. Wheeler is not soft-tossing His FB is in the low 90s and has better command and control than any of those guys. He can pitch inside, has 3 fastballs (4-,2-, cutter). His 4-seamer hits 93 and his cutter 88-89, which is not bad for a cutter. His problem has not been the fastball, but his secondary pitches. This year they are starting clicking for him can throw them for strikes. He has been highly effective and is 24. Averaging about 6.5 IP per start which is close to Berrios' and Meyer's numbers and better than Duffey's. Plus, the Twins are rebuilding. They better see what they have in him.
  21. nah. It would be just like the articles
