  1. I am with you here. The Twins own their DSL, GCL, and Appalachian League affiliates. Teams like the Yankees, Braves and Cardinals own all of their affiliates. Memphis (AAA affiliate of the Cardinals) is a Cardinals' town. Rochester is not a Twins' town and the #$*@#$& who are running the Red Wings have Yankees' merchandise instead of Twins' merchandise in their gift shop. Unacceptable. The Twins have to negotiate with the owners of their A-A+-AA-AAA clubs about serving as their affiliates, thus the move from New Britain to Chattanooga. For the Twins to buy the Miracle is a total no-brainer. This way you make your team more than a regional team (i.e. expand the "Twins Territory") I hope that some of the people who are running the Twins recognize one of these days that there are Twins' fans (and potentials) outside of the Dakotas and Minnesota...
  2. You are using ERA to make an argument against May (and in 2015 it was 4.00) and for Berrios. Have you checked Berrios' ERA last season?
  3. You are not in baseball wasteland, you got a decent AAA team, albeit the White Sox'. As far as current prospects go, position players: Aaron Whitefield, Akil Baddoo, Ben Rortvedt and pitchers: Jordan Balazovic and Huascar Ynoa will likely be in E-town next season as will be lots of the 2017 draft picks, and maybe even the #1 pick, if he is a certain High School P, so it might be a good place to go watch games. The ballpark is a pit and the town is quaint. To find name brand hotels or motels you have to stay in Johnson City 10 miles away or so.
  4. I am actually looking it the other way around. The Twins are a major income source for that city, and there are more cities than baseball teams. Looks like the Twins will end up flying anyways and it will be a win for them. Bottom line: The city is their landlord and the building does not pass code.
  5. video here: Salvador Perez looks pretty bad.
  6. Not sure whether you have been following the happenings in Elizabethton the past couple of years. In summary: Joe O'Brien Field, the ballpark the E-Twins are playing is horrible. The ballpark is owned by the Town and the Fields and Parks Head serves and the E-Twins GMThe Twins fully own the team (unlike their A, A+, AA, and AAA teams) and they can move itThe Twins want the town to improve the field and the player accommodation to stayThe City council earlier this year approved a bill to pay and the Twins decided to stay for the 2017 seasonLast month lots of back and forths, including an ultimatum by the city of Elizabethton to the Twins (ha) that expired today, asking an answer from the Twins on whether they were planning on staying past 2017 and whether planning to pay $600K. Of course the Twins declined to answer. Latest news here. The City's budget is to be set up next week, so we shall see. Elizabethton is a pretty small town, under 14,000 people and not sure whether they can support even a rookie league ball team. The Twins might be better off moving the team somewhere else in the Appalachian League or even look for a short-season A league. Interesting bit to watch the following couple weeks.
  7. Wishing him the best. Sad to see because this spring it looked like he finally might be at the point where we all hoped he would reach when he was traded to the Twins.
  8. Uffda
  9. First base coach would have been the truly frightful position for him...
  10. For some reason I remember Molitor saying that it will be the 13th (Tuesday)
  11. Here are then numbers of trades the last 3 years in March and April. For details baseball reference's transaction page is your friend. 2016 March: 5 April: 1 2015 March: 6 April: 5 2014 March: 6 April: 8
  12. They can put them in the pen and demote relievers or DL them
  13. Unless a team, let's say, Texas, loses a couple starters before that...
  14. Agree 100% with this. But I have wondered with May how much of this and the music thing is a distraction vs an escape. If it is an escape that makes him release and then be able to focus on his game, it is great, but if it is a distraction... Based on what I saw from his composure yesterday, when he did have butterflies and messed up in the beginning of the first and then came back, despite the home plate umpire squeezing him, this will be a special season for him Video games or not.
  15. I think that it is a good deal for the Twins. That $99 would translate up to $1089 for someone who goes to all 30 games, based on a $33 concession spend. To tell you the truth, they do not even need that $99, or the $3.33 per game. All they need to do is ask people to make a donation of a $1 that would go to a different charity each game, standing room only. They will make $ out of concessions, they would be good corporate citizens, and might attract more people than the $99 thing, because of the charity thing and the just a buck a game and no commitment thing (fill up on $9.99 hot dogs) Now, is this a good deal for a consumer? Depends. It is a great deal for people who are flying Spirit Airlines and do not pay any fees. For the rest of the humanity, Stubhub and the like are better deals...
  16. Not that high Really maybe advanced Rookie and that is a huge maybe. David Price for example was at around 13 K/9 in college. Never matched that in the pro balls and he went directly to A+ Same pretty much with Chris Sale. Same with Strasburg, same with our own Kyle Gibson. Hard to match because good College pitchers go directly to A+ and pass the levels that would match their performance in K/9
  17. It happens every day in most businesses. Lots of VPs and Directors "on the move up" want to show that they can "do more with less". Very common phenomenon. Worst kind of bosses to have. The problem with Ryan was that he was a spendthrift, and instead of spending $X on a difference maker, he would spend $X/4 each to sign each of 3 mediocre players and would spend the last $X/4 dumpster diving. So he would spent. Check out how much $ he gave Correia, Pelfrey (twice), Hughes (twice), Nolasco, and E. Santana. In 2014, He was paying Hughes, Pelfrey, Correia, and Burton $29M. That is not not spending, that is not spending wise...
  18. Not bad; however Castro is a treadable asset and at the point that the Twins decide they can have Garver at 100%, they should trade Castro for controllable pitching or Garver's replacement in 5 years... That can happen in 2018
  19. Exactly, that's why Ryan quit when he found out that the Pohlads were going to contract the team Nope he was the architect of the contraction. It was his decision to stay there and morph that roster into a horrible team that nobody would care if it were contracted. Or am I wrong? Staying there and working towards contraction is aiding and abetting...
  20. 2019 with smart drafting in 2017 and 2018 and quick promoting. And that would even mean that they wouldn't have to throw in the towel for 2017 and 2018 The good thing about this team is that it has several back of the pen arms who are ready or near ready. They could have gotten rid of the veterans in the pen and still be the same or even better. I'd take a pen of a combination of Burdi/Reed/Hildenberger/Chargois/Rosario/Pressly/Duffey/Jay/Melotakis/Rogers over what they will have this season As far as position players go, Mauer cannot be moved until he is gone, so the only 2 differences would had been someone like Vielma or Escobar over Dozier and Garver over Castro. I don't see much drop off there, because I don't trust Dozier. Maybe 2 wins. Rotation has to have Hughes, at least until he can be moved. The rotation would be something like: Berrios, Gibson, Hughes, May, Mejia, with Gonsalves, Jay, Jorge, Romero, waiting; which means that Berrios and Mejia would be there over Santana and Santiago. In summary: only 4 changes between rotation and lineup: Out Dozier, Castro, Santana, Santiago in Escobar, Garver, Berios, Mejia. Also a revamped pen that would have been better than the one in 2017 As you can see, the proposed young team would not be that much weaker than what they will bring up North this season. Also trading Santana, Dozier and Santiago would have brought about 2-3 very good prospects who could have contributed right away. But it is a philosophical discussion at this point...
  21. I take it that his answer is to the second and not the first question...
  22. I still do not see the single most effective way that will not affect the quality of the game listed: Cut down the time between innings in half, and get rid of the circus act tackiness between innings. Charge more for commercials or charge the same for shorter commercials for the TV to not take a hit or even allow commercials on a small corner of the screen during the game Simple and effective and does not change the game. Nobody needs hot dog races, T-shirt canons, or screeching choir children
  23. Molitor spoke about the back up catchers during the game last night and called Garver "bit more of a long shot" FWIW. Still think that the job is Gimenez's to lose. Not what I would do, but these are the signs I am picking from the Twins.
  24. That was quite a draft. Nobody made it to the majors, compared to 5 from the following year (2012) draft. Still a big believer on both Michael and Harrison. Harrison looks like he gained some muscle last winter will be interesting to see what he does this Spring. Michael just needs to stay healthy, Expect big seasons for both of them. Hurlbut outperformed his draft spot. I don't know what Wheeler needs to do to get a cup of coffee with the Twins, when they trot Andrew Albers and Pat Dean (both inferior pitchers) out there... Rodriguez is an interesting case. He is still a couple of seasons away, I just do not see him as a starter and there are half a dozen plus relievers ahead of him, unless he has a crazy season. Forgot that they released Corey Williams. I kinda expected him to be in this list, until I remember him being a Saint for a moon or so last season
