  1. Tremendously well-done, well-researched, and well-written. Mike Soroka was originally diagnosed with an impingement last year when he was shut down for the Braves. The Braves have been very cautious with his arm since, and he's seeing tremendous success in the rehab that he did. What exactly he did would be something I could ask Mike, but he really didn't want to get into details until he was on the other side of things and knew that it had worked for fear that some kid somewhere might begin doing similar activities to "heal" his own arm without knowing whether it would be successful. I appreciated that stance by Mike at the time, and your piece makes it even more clear that even if Mike is 100% successful in his rehab on the shoulder and becomes the pitcher everyone dreamed he could be, his method of rehabbing his shoulder may not work for the next guy to come along with a similar diagnosis, or even with the same exact diagnosis. Once again, great stuff!
  2. If Manoah fell to them, quite likely. He's #2 on my personal college pitching list, and I've heard the Twins mentioned often at his games, much more often than any of the other guys behind Lodolo. I don't know that he'll make it there, and at that point, I'd imagine they look strong at one of the college bats.
  3. I considered him for their third pick, but went with a Wes Johnson guy in Campbell.
  4. Except each team is maxed on the number of non-Japanese players that can be on their roster. Many players at the other end of their big league/minor league career have been much more attractive to Japanese teams (if you're a Japanese team hoping to win, would you rather sign a former top prospect who's looking for his last gasp and been in AAA for the last 3 years or a high schooler from the USA).
  5. I did a full first day mock that went up yesterday: https://videobaseballscout.com/2019/05/27/mlb-mock-draft-version-8-9-full-first-day/
  6. Passan has the best knowledge of this of any major reporter out there, and even he has said he doesn't know for sure whether the posting will be required or not. It's a fuzzy area in the way the current agreement is written that leaves a level of interpretation that I would wager is either going to be dealt with before Stewart hits the end of this contract or will be litigated by Stewart and Boras as his contract ends. The point has nothing to do with Stewart passing on the Braves' offer. It has to do with setting a precedent. Teams don't want to set a precedent that upsets the balance of the game, which could lead to him returning to Japan. Of course, this is all assuming health on a guy whose high school season ended early due to injury last year, had something show up in imaging after he was drafted, and has shown favoring to that potential weakness this season. I'm by no means "hoping for" an injury, but the fact of the matter is that he's got some significant red flags for injury, which is why he was tumbling down draft boards this year.
  7. One thing I've heard multiple times already since this deal was signed...MLB teams won't be in a hurry to bring Stewart back and set a new precedent, so this discussion about him being able to return at 25 as a free agent requires his Japanese club posting him, which is not guaranteed, and it also requires MLB teams bidding, and that very well could be another issue, with no rules governing a concerted effort by the league not to bid on a player put up for posting by a Japanese team, so that level of collusion is completely legal in the agreement with NPB.
  8. If someone will pay the posting fee and his team is willing to post him...
  9. So, I did my seventh mock of the year this week, and my weekly focus post was on draft pools and draft compensation picks - and how they're shaping the game outside the draft. I'm putting up a daily thread (link is the most recent one) that captures all the top performers across the minor leagues each day and highlights the top pitchers going that day in the minors as well. Tomorrow, I'll release my AL Central version of my division-by-division team strategy posts (link is to my most recent one on the AL West) for the upcoming draft. Next Monday, my mock draft will expand to the entire first day of the draft (all picks up to the start of the 3rd round). In other words, I hope you're checking in each day because there's new stuff going up each day!!
  10. He had fallen far enough that he wasn't getting that much in the draft, so it is a good move for him. Interestingly, the wrist that gave him issues in 2018 and ended up showing up in an MRI with the Braves that led to the contested change in his offer from the Braves has been favored in his delivery this year. He's not getting the same break and movement on his pitches this year, and many say that he's moving his wrist in his delivery different this year than he was previously.
  11. I went out at 3AM this week to Wal-mart to make a purchase. I'm lucky the rural SD town I'm in didn't have a police force out looking for me as my purchase was likely questionable as well. If we excuse officers for calling into questions motives due to our own beliefs, we've removed the rights of the accused right there.
  12. Cannot release where the info comes from, but the word on Kimbrel is that his knee is a major question. He had some major issues a couple years ago and came back way too fast, and it's never healed right. He was encouraged to get full reconstructive surgery this offseason after things were done on a wing and a prayer last year with the Red Sox training staff, and he chose to wait until after he'd signed. Oops. Teams don't want to commit over $15M per season for 3+ years to a guy who has a good chance that he'll miss a full year of that contract and is no sure bet to come back at full strength once he does return. He's had many 1-year offers and even 2-year offers for plenty more than the qualifying offer, and he turned them down. The one thing I'm reading here is discussing his clubhouse demeanor because he's unsigned...that's hogwash. Kimbrel is an amazing clubhouse guy, and if it were based on presence in the clubhouse, he'd be worth every penny of what he's asking. That sort of comment is definitely unfounded. Another point to consider is that the Twins currently sit with 11 picks and a draft pool of $9.9M. Signing Kimbrel would remove their 2nd round pick, which would remove roughly $1.34M from that pool. Coming into negotiations with your picks at #13 and #39 with $9.9M is a whole lot different than coming in with $8.25M.
  13. If you want a true crisis in this country, Trump is bankrupting farmers. With multiple states having laws in place to curtail corporate farming, thousands of acres will go unplanted this year on top of the thousands and thousands of acres that will not get planted this year due to flooding that has yet to receive any federal flooding. Now further push from the President that is making it very likely that even well-positioned farmers will be making tough choices very soon on the future of their farm. My brother is an editor with an agricultural publication and based in DC. This was his tweet regarding Trump's comment about compensating farmers for any losses on his newest round of tariffs: https://twitter.com/Spencer_Chase/status/1129046634472660993
  14. Hoese discussed with a chance to stick at short early on in his career by the Fangraphs podcast, and that's something I've been hearing more as more have gotten eyes on him. He's a guy that I could see absolutely exploding up the board from where people "expect" him to go to somewhere in the 10-15 range.
  15. They haven't had him all season, and they really didn't seem all that enthused to play him at the hot corner before he was injured. The Yankees were a big reason that Anthony Rendon did not want to sign an extension below a certain dollar amount. They very well may have just ended the Nats' chances of a Rendon extension.
  16. Tackle all of them simultaneously as an entire society? Not a chance. Work to ensure that each of us individuals challenges internally to achieve at least some level of improvement in awareness/consciousness/action on various areas of privilege that we are blessed with each day? That's absolutely achievable.
  17. Busch is an excellent athlete. He's just played first with the Tar Heels. He's done a lot of work in the outfield this spring, but mostly in practice, and scouts are reporting that he's looked very comfortable, especially in the corners. Misner's not hit since the SEC season began. Unless he's signing well below slot, he shouldn't be in consideration at 13. Two guys that I've heard a lot of tie to the Twins on have been finishing well. One Jeremy mentioned here in Langeliers, and the other is Josh Jung of Texas Tech, who's slugged nearly .900 since the first weekend of April, spanning 72 at bats, with nearly twice as many walks as strikeouts, and he's been getting a lot better grades on his defense as the year goes on at the hot corner.
  18. I've mocked Wallner to the Rays more than once this spring. He's not getting a ton of traction in first/comp discussion, though. I think he'll be a first-day pick, with the Rays a big fan (which makes sense), and a range of 35-75 for his draft area, but there are a lot of guys who fit in that range this year.
  19. The rumor didn't say who of the 3 ended up delivering the decisive blow, but they could certainly write that in - the 3 dragons battle her one, who has battle experience as an advantage to their 3. John could deliver the final sword through Dany after her dragon is defeated and she falls to the earth.
  20. My brother works as a John Deere salesman and store manager. He's been trying to explain to his pro-Trump wife that the policies going on in DC are causing them to have less money in the household due to farmers having less money because of less markets to sell to and the cost of equipment going up so much as Deere has used up their steel backups in house and now have to buy at a much higher rate, raising the already incredibly high cost of new equipment.
  21. One rumor I read (can't remember where now) was that Bran was going to keep Arya safe, and a few are now wondering if he sent the horse for her. The other rumor is that Bran had a vision of a cave where dragons were living and being tended to, and they will be revealed to Jon/Arya/Sansa, with Jon agreeing to serve in the role that Eddard Stark once served, willingly giving the throne to Sansa after the 3 use the new-found dragons to defeat Dany.
  22. Shaun puts together a very solid thread here... https://twitter.com/shaunking/status/1127961645714759681
  23. I posted it on Twitter already, but here is the link to my piece on Sinclair: https://videobaseballscout.com/2019/05/12/starting-9-sinclair-broadcast-group-enters-mlb/
  24. Yeah, but Rodriguez being optioned has as much to do with his team as him. He's struggled, but not anything crazy, but the Giants just essentially turned over 3/5 of their rotation, attempting to get something to stick before they are forced to make decisions on guys like Bumgarner and Will Smith by the trade deadline. Pressly was already making those strides with the Twins, and frankly, that's why he drew the trade package he did with the track record he had at the time.
  25. The in-fighting in the Democratic party turned away many from voting Democrat in 2016, whether we want to admit it or not. Trump stirred up plenty of controversy among Republican candidates, but that was resolved so far ahead of the convention that it was out of mind by the time the party announced its candidate. The Democratic convention was a show for all the wrong reasons in 2016, and I do know some legit independent/moderate types who either did not vote for President at all or held their nose and went with Trump.
