  1. Do these same respectable outfits sanction the use of all caps for emphasis?
  2. Trump just ordered the DOJ to ban bump stocks. (Not sure he has the authority to do that without a legislative act, but it is something.)
  3. I recall reading that Gates continued on with Trump after Manafort left and worked at the Whitehouse as of last summer.
  4. His splits are pretty favorable; he did much better in the second half (dynamite in Sept.), and on the road. Is Ordozzi a flyball or groundball guy? Maybe Buxton can help if the former. (Edit: his flyball rate rose precipitously last season, and the groundball rate dropped even more so. I don't know league averages, so I lack context to answer my own question)
  5. There were reports that he had a guaranteed roster spot, and our board spent a lot hangwringing over the loss of that spot...but I guess not.
  6. I look forward to Parker et al explaining what lead to the increase in walk and HR rates the past two seasons. I hope it's something the Twins have a plan for fixing.
  7. I guess Sanchez isn't taking a roster spot, as of now? Has anyone been cleared for him?
  8. What are the Rays doing? Trading for Cron, then waiving Dickerson and trading Ordorizzi for Jermaine Palacios? Is Palacios even a top 20 guy (he was like two years ago, right)?
  9. It's not ominous, it's strategic. Yesterday was about debunking Trump's narrative that Russia meddling was fake news. This indictment was designed to give Trump plausible deniability (for now) so the investigation can continue. That Rosenstein gave the press conference gives Mueller further cover. There was also the plea deal of Richard Pinedo, an American, announced yesterday as well, who had sold bank account and stole identities; make what you will of that, but I think it's connected to the Russia indictment. First step needed to be establish that the Russian's influenced the election, that legitimizes the probe itself; now Mueller has time to thoroughly make his case for collusion, which I'm sure is much more complex than what's publicly known.
  10. Clearly, he wouldn't have accepted. I'm sure they tried to offer Tillman something similar, and I'm sure other teams offered Sanchez something a bit more than a minor league invite. The contract is structured in such a way that they have every reason to end this experiment early.
  11. I misread your post, evidently, mea culpa. Cole and Darvish were doable, if very hopeful. The offseason may technically over, but it's clearly not; I'll wait to pass judgment, but I'm certainly not hopeful for much more than another FA starter.
  12. I'd imagine May is eligible for the 60 DL still?
  13. And they should have traded for Stanton!? Hey, I wanted Darvish too, but I don't thinking anyone (maybe beyond yourself) believed they should (much less were going to) sign two of Cobb, Lynn, Arrietta, and Darvish. I still believe they can address one spot in the rotation, but I also hope that Santana's injury doesn't make them overpay for another starter say via trade.
  14. Sure. But we all know there would be one or two guys like this brought in. It's only awful if it precludes them from signing a legitimate starter.
  15. If this is their only signing I'll be very upset; but I think this is better than actually having to guarantee someone like Tillman a contract. I still expect them to sign one of Cobb/Lynn/Arrieta.
  16. It doesn't say 25-man roster spot, Mike. The way the 40-man roster spot thing would work, I'm not clear on, but it indicate he's willing to go to AAA if he needs to. That the Twins are placing him on the 40 man roster now, doesn't prohibit them from releasing him at any point (esp. considering the salary isn't guaranteed).
  17. It's basically a spring invite with a deal in place if he earns his spot. Zero risk.
  18. Or a gunshow shooting, where the fact that everyone was armed didn't make a lick of difference.
  19. Why not offer Arrieta better-than Darvish opt-out numbers, say 2/45? I worry Lynn and Cobb are this years Hughes and Nolasco, pitchers with track records but an injury history and lack of dominance that suggests regression towards the mean could anchor the value far below what will be paid.
  20. Yes, but the opt-out clause does have a lot more value to Darvish now. In many ways it's really like a two year deal, unless he's horrible to mediocre which it will be a six year deal. I still think the Twins should have taken that risk.
  21. FTR, many institutions still require two spaces after the period, including the court I work for.[ ][ ]So it's a habit I won't be breaking anytime soon.
  22. Lol. One more year. Thanks for the link.
