  1. I was kidding, but thanks for obliging!
  2. Please transcribe?
  3. My dogs act with equal absurd amounts of enthusiasm for whatever I am about to give them. I have no basis of determining their favorites.
  4. Wheat thins are the dog's favorite treats?

  6. He's still an asset for the year (which could be traded for future value), and you have exclusive right to bargain for an extension. The demand that the Twins spend hugely seems a bit misguided. Beyond Machado and Harper, I don't think the Twins can buy a real difference maker. Does Marwin Gonzales add that much more than Schoop? Do you want the Twins to give 100 some million to Keuchel?
  7. Well it doesn't look like the Twins believe Gordon will be ready to contribute, given the signing of both Torres and Schoop. This is a fine one-year deal, but it would have been nice to get a second/option year, so if he does bounce back the Twins will benefit.
  8. Thank you for taking such a burden and a joy into your lives. Having worked for the juvenile courts, I know these are special moments for the judges. Congratulations! (And so cool it was her birthday; she'll remember this forever.)
  9. ARE WE EVEN TRYING TO WIN? ANOTHER ONE SLIPS THROUGH OUR FINGERS!
  10. So far Ocasio-Cortez seems pretty authentic--in over head in the minutia of economics, but genuinely engaging on inter-party criticism, as well as policy in general. Let's hope there's hardened value behind her apparent message--as selling out to any extent would seem to undermine her thing (already there's been public criticism of the affordability of her outfits, so she doesn't have much wiggle room to stray towards self-enrichment).

  12. Well, you're creating a bit of false dilemma. And it's hard to argue that the Cubs were right with Darvish given that they've gotten zero value from him and no guarantee that he'll return to form.
  13. When smart people do stupid things, that thing they did is still stupid.
  14. I guess Ocasio-Cortez decried the unpaid intern thing, and Schumer took the job posting down.
  15. The barriers to politics are manifold, intern pay probably lower on the list of reasons why there is little to none economic diversity in the ruling class. I mean most state and local offices pay so poorly that it excludes nearly any one who isn't wealthy or willing to live on crumbs. Any middle class person raising a family, even with a partner having a decent job, would rarely take such risks. One reason why poverty continues to exist is that the lacking education, lacking work skills, poor habits/attitudes are passed on through the generations. This is not a judgment, but an unfortunate fair generalization (one I don't blame the poor for). So a kid growing up in a poor household, probably hasn't heard about said-internship, much less has the requisite education, references, and grant/scholarship-writing-know-how. And when an exceptionally lucky (or plucky) poor kid breaks through, his kids don't suffer the same consequences he did, though his kid too may not be able to afford the education/experience to take on such a free internship. My sense is that people from poor households get knocked off the path for Senate internship long before they reach the question of whether they can afford to take the job.
  16. Exception that proves the rule.
  17. JP Crawford has less than 250 PAs, a bit harsh to call him a failed prospect. Would you give up Buxton + to get Segura?
  18. I still don't know that Cron's contract is guaranteed; I recall learning that arbitration players can be cut anytime prior to opening day at no cost to the team, but I'm not sure where I learned that or whether it's true. Can anyone clarify?
  19. M's also getting Carlos Santana in the deal.
  20. Well, when you spend both prospects and dollars and don't end up with wins, I think that's pretty bad. But I agree, coveting prospects doesn't always work out, but the Padres have made some questionable moves recently (I think including signing Hosmer for such a long deal in what seemed like a depressed market last year).
