  1. Songs I've been playing to death lately. James Murphy Oddetta Father John Misty http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=fP1yWejdqfU Wu Lyf http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=73kSVQn2tYs Cults Coco Rosie Cat Power http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=CkVBUG0ATro (I guess I can't have more than video so they are just links now, inconveniently)
  2. I think it's likely that Willingham will be a positive force beyond 2014; maybe not to the same degree he was last year or will be this year. But I don't think he'll suddenly have negative value. Of course, I wouldn't think about extending until his contract expires, or he shows continued dominance. That said, Willingham's first full season was as 27 year old, and while he's had injuries he's collected at least 400 PAs every season since then. In both cases, the contract matters. I'd go short term deals with vesting thresholds for PAs. I just don't want the Twins to sell short on players now because they are losing, when those same players can help bridge the gap to the next core. We might be overpaying to keep them around, but we could also be looking at gaping holes at DH and 1B (esp. if Parm sticks in the OF or busts) as soon as next year. I also don't see them spending similar money on FAs; they are far more likely to spend on their own, imo.
  3. I agree. Unless the Twins are blown away by offers for him, keep him. Willingham is likely worth more to the Twins over the next several years than any player they could fetch for him. He's fairly inexpensive, and still has two years on his contract. Morneau is the more palatable trade candidate from the Twins perspective, though I'm not sure what kind of value we can get for him. If Morneau produces this year, I wouldn't mind an extension either. I think we should temper our trade expectations for both these guys. Neither of them are necessarily blocking anyone coming up, and they'll help us compete in 2014 and beyond probably more than anything we'll get in return. Arcia/Hicks/Parm in the OF, and Morneau/Hammer at 1B/DH for the next several years sounds pretty good to me.
  4. That's all pretty reasonable.
  5. Is that him finding a nut? Good luck, buddy.
  6. I also think his bat is a bit better than BA is letting on, as well. But when looking at the list of the guys above him, it's fair company. Scouting--and I'm aware of the blanket generalization I'm about to make--just loves tools. They also love pedigree (which might as well be defined as "how long have we liked this guy"). So I understand why some higher profile, skill position players get higher ranking on prospect lists--whether those players end up being worth so much in the ML is a different question. Arcia was relatively unknown to the prominent, public scouting community (maybe my memory is wrong on this..) before he started to produce. He's a good defender, but he doesn't have lights out speed or a cannon arm or Sano power. He's got an incredible bat so far which will always be iffyier for scouts to quantify than any physical skill; everyone just seems scared to believe in him.
  7. Let's put Arcia into some perspective. Here's a list of the non-up-the-middle defenders and non-pitching prospects (quick and dirty and lazy). 3 Oscar Taveras 4 Wil Myers 9 Miguel Sano 15 Christian Yelich 21 Nick Castellanos 22 Mike Olt 27 Jonathan Singleton 30 Anthony Rendon 34 Jorge Soler 41 Oswaldo Arcia When comparing him to similarly tooled players, we see he's ranked tenth. Maybe we can make some quibbles here and there, but really Arcia's ranking isn't exactly the underestimate some people believe.
  8. Worth watching. It's a five minute, high production "episode" of Twins pitchers and catchers reporting. A few quotes here and there, but mostly high on sentiment. A good watch for those wistful baseball fans.
  9. Gardy's on a one year contract; the writing is on the wall. Consider how little the team spent on winning in 2013. TR, with some help from BS, has taken a bottom feeding Minor system and turned it into a top 5.
  10. Even a hundred innings of a healthy Harden is a good thing, guys.
  11. Imagine, if that plays at 2nd base. Nice.
  12. Right. I think it's fine take what you read from beat-reporters with a grain of salt, especially if the context is opaque, but to somehow equate that cynicism with a critique of the beat-reporter's job performance is poor form. It should also be important to note that part of a reporter's job depends on their 'access,' so they're not going to want to jeopardize that by editorializing or even negatively framing what they might be reporting. Just saying.
  13. Generally, there's a distinction between a reporter and a columnist; isn't there? IMO, the local media's credibility is easy to questions because the columinists aren't very good.
  14. Did you just make a new account after banning? And you're complaining about roll over ads? Ugh.
  15. Twins are okay with moving 1B-pedigree to RF late in his development, so there doesn't seem to be a need to rush Sano into the OF any time soon.
  16. Look, no one wants stupid policies, and really the examples you mention benefit the banking industry more than they did the impoverished for which they were intended. You're really pointing to corruption rather than naivete. My instincts tell me that a minimum wage increase would only help the real, liquid economy and perhaps **** the investment industry. I think the exchange of goods would remain pretty static, and so would jobs, with the potential for more consumer and retail jobs as the bottom earners would have more disposable income.
  17. I'm not sure where unmitigated ambition got confused for heroism, but whatever.
  18. Oh. Explain, you opaque huckster.
  19. Rockies got him for PTBNL/cash
  20. I wish the Twins would sign a guy like this.
  21. Did he get the weights he was lifting from the Twins medical staff? Hmm?
  22. Perhaps this is an assessment of whether or not they believe he can stick at 3rd.

  24. It's more fun if we keep it from you.
