  1. This (or, let's hope). No reason to bench expensive veterans in favor of younger, maybe (gulp, likely) marginally talented guys. But we will see. I won't hold my breath. I really hope we see two of Doumit, Morneau, Willingham get traded--keeping one of the latter two for next year (a qualifying offer for Morneau if needed/deserved). If we can trade Carroll for anything at all, I'll be smitten.
  2. Lot to like in that article, especially the video of Sano fielding a bunt for the out at the very end. Skorupa believes that Sano can stick at third until his thirties, which is encouraging.
  3. ranked voting?
  4. "Ichiro" always sounded suspiciously Spanish to me....
  5. I changed it around some, so it's my quote now.
  6. Whether the Twins compete for a divisional title in 2014 or 2016 depends on how motivated the Twins are to supplement the youngsters with more expensive veterans.
  7. Do the Twins have much history with Taiwanese players? Because doesn't it come down to the area scout's capacity to pitch an expensive sale to the Twins?
  8. The type of data-collection that is being reported is very troubling to me--so is the access to that data-collection (evidently); I just don't like the idea of troves of data with which the government (or their agents or, I guess, some GED dipstick) could mine at some later time for whatever ends. Lots of liberals and libertarians still have trouble with the whole idea of whistle-blowing--some regard it as a betrayal--but really, for me, the greater betrayal is to go against one's principals. And in my opinion one can still be a patriot for their country, even if they betray their government. Snowden seems to be going it about it in a somewhat honorable way, he's not really revealing secrets so much as secret programs--the secrets are still secret--just not the mechanism through which they were obtained. It may have been a mistake for him to out-himself, as he becomes the story, and his motives become part of the equation with which the publicly will decide where justice actually lies. The old adage, if you sacrifice freedom for security, you will have neither, seems appropriate. Fun fact: Amazon's sale of Orwell's 1984 has significantly gone up.
  9. Too bad the Twins are prohibited from complementing the roster with high profile free agents.
  10. Plouffe with a homer and playing thirdbase. Worley gets lit up.
  11. Is their precedence for skipping High-A in this organization, or any other? The idea of getting Sano, Rosario, and Buxton around each other seems particularly palatable to me.
  12. Here's JJ's twitter -- it's got lot's of good Buxton stuff from today. The guy absolutely gushes.
  13. Molitor is an articulate man; and honestly, I admire his approach to give players space to demonstrate their skill set and then try to shape that skill set where needed. I was also glad for the mention that he is a mentor and teaches individuals how to be men (that is, how to hold themselves in one's profession (life)). Given Molitor's apparent investment--really, he seems passionate about broad organizational approaches and philosophies--and his obvious pedigree and skill set, it's difficult for me not to wonder about his capacity to be the manager of the next group of kids (which, knock-on-wood-bat, might be historical for the franchise). To read and hear what Molitor has to say about the game makes me wonder if he's being groomed for the managerial job. I doubt I'm alone, but I'm warming to the idea.
  14. As an out-of-stater, I was unable to catch the broadcast, from reading the thread it sounds like Buxton had a fantastic game. But I would appreciate any detailed scouting reports/impressions etc. Make me believe the hype.
  15. It's about getting players' at bats, sacrificing the defense seems to be something the team will be willing to do in a throw-away season, especially with very few developing pitchers in the rotation.
  16. Seriously? The implication of these types of posts aren't just that the Twins are incompetent in their player development, but that they are self-sabotaging. Which is utterly ridiculous.
  17. The Double A boxscore got a whole hell of a lot more interesting.
  18. Four for seven ain't bad, says someone slimmer than meatloaf.
  19. Thanks, bud. It's so nice to have a dude like you put some of the speculation in perspective. Congrats at the privilege.
  20. Okay, gaming it out. Sano ends the season in double A (with or without a cup of coffee); he begins Spring Training in competition for a roster spot. Buxton rises to High A this year, and begins 2014 in double A. Given the real scenario above, it's quite possible both are up in 2014 if their play dictates such. These players will not be rushed, but they won't be held back. Anyone(s) that thinks the Twins aren't in the business of winning as soon as possible are fools. God bless them for attempting to align their lightening strikes. Seriously, fans.
  21. Well it's a battery draft! It's not a bad idea to pair catchers and pitchers to come into the minor leagues together, and maybe move up as well together. Got a HS and College catcher, and surely plenty of pitchers to come from each.
