  1. That's what I was hoping when I picked him up in my dynasty league.
  2. I had just copied and pasted that same quote before I noticed you had done the same thing. It's kind of refreshing for a player not to take up every opportunity to get butthurt about how much a club values him.
  3. Yeah, that was just weird.
  4. The Twins were also drafting in the bottom third of the first round for nearly a decade...
  5. Consistency? What's your time frame? Three years? Fifteen years? Does your assessment change when the the next group of minor leaguers appear? The Twins poor product on the field has less to do with their ability to draft (winning for so long, hurt our prospects here) than it does to acquire major league talent through either free agency or trade.
  6. It is arbitrary, but that in and of itself doesn't necessitate that it's irrelevant. Its use is limited, but it can help put other numbers into context. For instance having back end of the rotation guys that rack of quality starts is probably a good thing. But as a measure of ace-like production, it's cursory.
  7. I don't think it quite works that way. If Beresford has specific issues to work through at AAA before he's best prepared for the ML, we'd be doing him a disservice. If Beresford were ready or needing of addition he certainly would have taken Escobar's spot. In any case, Beresford wouldn't be getting any at bats, which is (in part) why Escobar was sent down in he first place.
  8. Of course wins depend onthe offense of your team, which the pitcher cannot control. While the line of what makes a quality start a quality start is arbitrary, pitchers still, largely, contribute far more to a quality start than they do a win. The comparison seems tenuous at best. They are arbitrary for completely different reasons. QS is a quick and dirty stat that can tell you something about consistency, endurance, and baseline effectiveness. It has value, but it's hardly a go-to statistic for anyone.
  9. You can't simply chase after upside. You sign a pitcher like Correia because you are chasing after other pitchers with risk (like Harden and Pelfrey). A whole staff risky upside types, leads to even more starts by PJ Walters and Cole De Vries. As others have said Correia was signed to be a back end inning eater, that he is our best pitcher shouldn't be used against the validity of his signing...
  10. Have to think Vargas is heading to AA, along with a couple of others.
  11. I think there's many prongs here. 1) Get Arcia, Parm and Escobar untracked. 2) Get all the vets in the lineup so as to better sell them 3) Give Collabello a sincere chance (he may not have had that with Arcia and Parm on the same roster).
  12. I bet the civil suit will turn out very different results. It's really a strange kind of justice that will take place here, with the books, appearances etc. the Zimmerman clan will make some money, and I bet the Martin clan gets their take. So modernly tragic.
  13. Not guilty. Oi.
  14. Second degree murder is strange, honestly, in its distinction from manslaughter. Basically, for this trial, state, whatever, the distinction is that second degree murderer has malice and ill-will toward the victim, manslaughter does not. While I do think there is evidence to support the second degree murder charge, I'm not sure how convincing the prosecutions case was. And seriously, I didn't suggest it was a mastermind scheme, I just see Zimmerman lying his way out of shooting someone in a non-life-threatening scuffle. The question is did Zimmerman have a reasonable, justifiable belief that his life was in danger (I don't believe that he did). The final rebuttal from the prosecution lays out pretty my take pretty convincingly.
  15. Dave Cameron over at Fangraphs has an article comparing Perkins' (and the Met's Parnell's) trade value to Soria's, noting how the Royals failed to pull the trigger until it was too later, and that closers are rarely worth building around.
  16. Marcum shut down for the season, btw.
  17. BA has a Twins Midseason Update. Cliff notes anyone?
  18. That Molitor has been working closely and publicly with our major prospects shouldn't be ignored. Molitor, at least in my view, has a far more prominent profile, in terms of interviews given and reports of who he is working with and when, than previous years. Maybe I'm reading too much into what is normal behavior for a roving instructor, but I think there's something to it, and if Gardy can indeed stay with the organization in a TK role, so much the better.
  19. The trading of Feldman is pretty lateral--and that's the end result of his signing. Whatever keeness the Cubs showed in signing him, what they obtained in return doesn't seem much of a reward to me, and I doubt I'm alone in this opinion. This might be cynical, but I imagine if the Twins had retained this package for KC, some of the same posters would use it as evidence of why we shouldn't have signed KC in the first place. Go figure.
  20. Comparing Arrieta to Worley (who is two years younger) and Strop to Burton (who has a much, much better track record) sure looks like a biased comparison to me. The Cubs didn't get much in terms of future value for Feldman. The Twins got more for Liriano last year...
  21. You quoted me in terms of evaluation of the GM, not of the 25 man roster. For my part, it's totally disingenuous to separate the big league club from the minor league clubs--it's an organization, and I'll judge TR's job in terms of his management of the organization. I probably put more weight on process rather than yield than you do. If your point is that TR didn't put a winning product on the field for 2013, well the record shows you're right, and it would be foolish to contend with that point.
  22. Really? While the major league club is treading mediocrity nearly all of the prospects are putting up relative league leading numbers, it's gnarly. But it goes beyond that, and I (and others) have already put the context out there. The Twins are what we thought they would be. Some random second-tier starting pitching aside, I'm not sure you're best or even moderate outcome was ever realistic. Frankly, if this is the worst case scenario, you're expectations for the 2013 might have been a bit lofty.
