  1. He'd have to be there by Aug 1st, but maybe injury (rehab) changes the matrix somewhat.
  2. Pat Dean is another guy who could go. Here are the rules: Each Major League organization is required to provide six players subject to the following requirements: All Triple-A and Double-A players are eligible, provided the players are on at least a Double-A level roster no later than Aug. 1. One player below the Double-A level is allowed per Major League team. One foreign player is allowed, as long as the player does not reside in a country that participates in winter ball, as part of the Caribbean Confederation or the Australian winter league. No players with more than one year of credited Major League service as of August 31 are eligible, except a team may select one player picked in the most recently concluded Major League Rule 5 Draft. To be eligible, players on Minor League disabled lists must be activated at least 45 days before the conclusion of their respective seasons.
  3. Only ten or so Florida State League players (of the qualifiers) are OPSing over .800, so Buxton's numbers are among the top in the league.
  4. Well the Twins are only eligible to pick one player below AA, so Wimmers might be out. I think it will almost be all pitchers. Meyer, May (though he might have too many innings), Baxendale, Tonkin, Summers are eligible and might be good bets. Pinto, Santana, Ortiz, Morales might be benefited from the experience. But only one foreign player is allowed (probably because of the Winter leagues). Is it me or is it very rare to see elite prospect in Arizona. I'd love for them to put Buxton out there to fast track him some...
  5. Cafardo setting us to be disappointed This seems like speculation (based on the strength of our farm), but that Cafardo doesn't dismiss the Twins out of hand means something I guess.
  6. Delmon was about to reach some bonus incentive in his contract, and Wells will be cheaper over the course of the season. I bet Delmon ends up somewhere before the season is out...
  7. Well considering all the outs he made were Ks, I'd say that's pretty good.
  8. In that case, how's everyone's marriage doing?
  9. I've missed the game so far, has Albers looked as good as it stat line? The lack of Ks makes me think he's getting lucky.
  10. Abysmal. Unwatchable. It's like sawdust in my mouth, but I think Gardy needs to go. Maybe Anderson too. Maybe it's just wishful thinking, but I really want to see Molitor wearing the skipper hat next year.
  11. Right. I'll be watching closely to see if the Twins actually start investing this offseason. We can't simply assume players will be available in free agency when it suits us best. Given that our premium talent is now in the upper minors, the team shoudl start taking some heavier finacial risks in free agency. Last offseason, the prospects seemed much further away than they actually are, so in hindsight, nabbing Grienke/Sanchez (as impossible as it probably would have been) wouldn't have been the financial albatross I anticipated.
  12. How do these numbers vary from year to year? I'm just not sure there's an appreciable skill, here. There's just so many variables that contribute to how balls and strikes are called. Given how poor our pitchers are and their relative anonymity, I wonder if 'not getting the call' has more to do with who the pitcher is than which catcher is framing.
  13. I don't disagree. But since I know so little about this player, I can hardly blame the Twins if they aren't going to spend on him. Likewise, I'd rather them invest in expensive FAs when they are closer to competitiveness (and have a better idea of their true needs, though I agree assets are assets), in spite of however low payroll is now.
  14. I'm all for adding talent in the way that kab outlies, but I do think we need to again emphasize that while the Twins have mid-market and possible 100 million payroll, they simply can't afford to miss on these type of contracts (Again, why it's hard for the Twins to ever sign a Grienke). We dismiss the risk because the payroll is so low during losing seasons, but over the course of the contract, it very well could prevent the Twins from acquiring necessary assets. I'm not saying the Twins shouldn't acquire a guy like Guerrero, but rather making such an acquisition isn't as obvious as many are insisting. If the cost is 7/32 that's certainly manageable, but that sounds pretty pollyanneish to me.
  15. Right, but if he was doing well, you could argue it was also a mistake to leave him in AAA. You can't have it both ways. The fact that he's tired or struggling, doesn't at all mean he would have found success sooner, if anything, his current struggles give some legitimacy to the notion that he wasn't ready. The 130 innings was always an arbitrary marker for the Twins, given how cautious they've been in handling pitchers coming off of injury--I think they would be quick to shut Gibson down if he it was clear he was substantially wearing down.
  16. Oi, May implodes.
  17. Wimmers got beat up today, but had no walks, looks like it may have been bad defense behind him. How long are they going to keep Wimmers in the GCL anyway?
  18. You're dismissing how poor the Tigers system is. I'm not sure Garcia is on very many top 100 lists... The Twins got a better return for Santana, in terms of prospect value, to put it in perspective.
  19. Well, it is certainly worrisome in that they weren't/aren't legitimate trade chits--part of the rebuilding process was using Morneau, Willingham, Doumit to acquire assets which pay dividends in the near future.
  20. We like pretend that the modalities of baseball are known quantities but they are not; the Twins are playing a game of psychology as much as they are trying to maximize athleticism. Hicks and Diamond have had months to straighten themselves out at the major league level; it's time to shake their foundations and see if the house can hold. I have no doubt that both can contribute in the future, but unadulterated complacency was not the answer. I'm glad the Twins shook things up, both will be back up in September.
  21. wtf was that? delayed stolen base? sloppy fielding
  22. Justin Morneau: building trade value in August.
