Dave St Peter tweeted this yesterday: Myself, I respect Jeter as a player and understand what he has meant to baseball. But, being the face of the Yankees and the [*] ESPN does has made me not a fan. Can one boo a player and have be a sign of respect? * graphic term moderated out by ashburyjohn
Im guessing Terry Ryan offered Colabello in a trade to any team (with the return being any warm body) but no team took him up on it because they know the Twins are in a numbers crunch and could probably pick him off on a waiver claim.
I liked Coomer as a change of pace from Bert. If he had a full season, I would probably get tired of him, but he seemed to offer up some commentary about pitch sequence and what the batter is thinking. I would be nice if FSN finds an ex Twins player (or any player, but I doubt they would go outside of the Twins family) that played baseball in the 2000's.
I know this time of the baseball year is a lot of wild speculation and dream scenarios, but why would the Yankees trade Gardner for Plouffe when the Yankees have about 10 teams calling them up about Gardner?
maybe a discussion for another day, but the broader issue here is (and Minnesota Twins fans are aware of this with past injuries) that concussions are not limited to the football field and hockey rinks. And you gotta wonder if the MLB and the MLBPA and the equipment manufacturers are doing anything to improve catching equipment to reduce the chances for concussions.
Minnesota Twins hire Paul Molitor as coach - TwinCities.com that should probably answer the questions "why now?" and "is Molitor is a manager in training?"
what about the years he went 12-14, 11-6 etc with essentially the same bad talent on the mid to late 90s? Radke was good. Very good. He is in the Twins HoF. He wont be forgotten by those who followed the team from the doldrums to the playoffs. He just doesnt have enough (no Cy Youngs, no leading the team to a World Series, etc) to reach 'retire number' status.
when? when the attendance falls through the roof at Target Field and need a promotion to rally around. but really, Radke is a good representative for the Twins and a great player and is the Twins Hall of Fame and thats good by me. His number gets retired if he goes to Cooperstown.
Im not a smart enough baseball mind to figure this out, but is Ubaldo a 'better' version of Sam Deduno? (you know, live ball, doesnt quite know where its going, gets ground balls, etc)
the thing I am thinking about is that Twins fans have to let David Ortiz go. There is a whole wave of Twins fans, young people to mid 2000's bandwagon fans to only want to bee seen at Target Field only fans, that never saw Ortiz play in the Twins uniform.
there has got to be a way to move that energy from burrowing into the catchers noggin to something else padding on the front and back of the cage? some sort of breakaway mask? the 'outwards facing V'? some sort of combo?
