  1. Put me in the camp of hating to give up 1st round picks to sign players, especially mid-1st round picks.
  2. Actually Cuddy is owed $12.5M next year. I've always loved Cuddy, but he is a liability in the field and his .259/.309/.391 he put up this year could be found a whole lot cheaper than giving up a player AND paying him $12.5M next season.
  3. I'm not saying the money isn't around. I am saying the Twins signing a 30 year OF to a $20M per year for the next 5-6 seasons seems pretty far fetched.
  4. Cespedes to the Twins is a pipe dream. He is going to get paid.
  5. And here lies another problem. Several posters have blasted this organization for not trading players when their value and hanging on to them too long. They did they opposite with Span and traded him while he had very good value and got at the time a very good piece going forward for a re-building team. The Meyer book is far from being closed.
  6. Buxton was clearly over matched at the plate last season, why does he NEED to be opening day CF? His glove is obviously ready, but I see nothing bad in letting him hit some AAA pitching next season and not throwing him back into the fire.
  7. Yeah, I know the overall numbers, I was referring more to just the playoff losses.
  8. What makes you think Rosario's trade value is extremely high? It could be, but aren't young, team controlled players what the Twins should be wanting right now? With a limited supply of OF talent right now, why would they shop him and for what?
  9. It didn't help that those Yankee teams were chalked full of superstars and HOF players. I know it's not an excuse and they realistically should have done better, those were some damn talented teams.
  10. I would love Davis in this lineup but yeah with losing our 1st and paying him 6/144........I would think there are better ways money can be spent.
  11. I just don't see how this feature is disappointing news. If they would have said "Well we were going to put a kid's area there, but instead put in a new bar." I can see how that would be bad news, but unless it was one or the other, I just can't see how a cool new feature is disappointing news, at least in my eyes.
  12. Oh, completely with you there. He should have been taken off the 40 man months before he actually was.
  13. I just can't call $82M over 5 year "peanuts." Especially when he's getting $20M per in his 34-36 year old seasons. Martin is a very good hitting catcher, but it's still a pretty dang good chunk of money.
  14. That makes more sense than having Thompson on the roster, so yes the point flew entirely over my head.
  15. I wouldn't have wanted Thompson anywhere near the mound in September.
  16. I would say there is a decent chance that's the Twins end up retiring it in the next couple years.
  17. I think it looks like a pretty cool addition and I would likely sit and have a beer up there. I love getting standing room tickets and wandering around to watch the game from different locations. Being able to order a beer and sit and watch would beat standing on the deck lower watching from CF, but that's just my opinion. People have to understand that not everyone is going to the games to sit and watch every pitch of the game. I will assume the most of us most certainly are, but a lot more people go to the games than your die hard fans.
  18. Trading Plouffe does not make them "sellers." It makes them a team who is trading off a surplus to make the team better in other areas. Whether or not those other areas are on the ML team right now, or pieces for a later time, or for a later trade is to be seen. If money wasn't a thing and the Twins could just have Plouffe for the next 5-6 years, then yeah.....hang on to him, but with him starting to get paid rather well this off season and needing a multi year deal after that......they need to decide what's right to do.
  19. I see nothing wrong with this kind of signing, it's exactly zero risk.
  20. Is there any stats or evidence to back this up?
  21. I can't help rooting for the Cubs. Any franchise that has been that poor and gone that long without a championship.....I just can't root against them, at least to come out of the NL. We talk about how long it's been since the Twins last World Series victory in 91. Take a look at this list: Cubs last win - 1908. 107 years. Dodgers last win - 1988. 27 years. Mets last win -1986. 29 years. Rangers last win - Never. 55 years in existence. Blue Jays last win - 1993. 22 years. Astros last win - Never. 54 years in existence. Royals last win - 1985. 30 years. 23% of the teams in the league are left in the playoffs and the only team to have a championship since the Twins last won it is the Jays, and they haven't been to the playoffs since they won it 22 years ago. Some fan base is going to get a much waited and well deserved title this year.....and I like it.
  22. I would say for starters, their 2nd and 3rd pitches are just as important as being to able to throw hard. When Johan was striking out 9-10.5 guys per 9 innings, it wasn't because he threw hard it was because he had the best changeup in the game to go with being able to throw 92-94. After we saw Liriano add the changeup to his arsenal he became a strikeout master as well Duffey this season didn't strike out 8.2 guys per 9 innings based on his 90.5 MPH fastball. He did that by getting ahead and using that superb curveball. If anyone watched Game 1 of the Dodgers-Mets series, we saw a guy in deGrom who used his high velocity fastball combined with a slider and a curve to keep hitters off balance all day. In the same game Kershaw obtained most of his K's on his nasty slider. Starting pitchers need an "outpitch" to rack up strikeouts. High velocity of course helps. When Kershaw has the ability to throw his slider as hard as Milone's fastball he certainly has an advantage. I do think that velocity comes in more handy in the pen, which the Twins have lacked. When you have guys throwing so few pitches, the velocity really adds an extra notch, especially when guys have been seeing a starter throwing 91-93 all game long. Just my two cents on the issue.
  23. I just don't see a good enough reason for him to be trad If you don't bring back Torii, you have Rosario, Buxton, Arcia, Kepler and...Robinson? I do think there is a good chance that Kepler and Buxton start in AAA, you are leaving your OF core pretty thin by trading Hicks. He is a plus defender and while wasn't consistent last year, he actually showed he can hit ML pitching. With less than 900 PA and not being eligible for arbitration until 2017, we have to assume that 2016 should be a make or break year for Hicks. I agree that the optimal situation would be to find a platoon partner, but think there is more upside seeing if he progresses further than trading him right now. I don't see them getting a whole lot in return.
  24. What's the going rate on contract for Cueto? Something around the Lester contract?
