  1. It didn't hit the catwalk.
  2. The way I see it, not much is going to change if just Ryan and Molitor are fired. I think a lot of people give Ryan more credit and more blame than he actually deserves. It's not just one office atop of the mountain and he makes all the decisions. Most of the decisions to promote/demote, draft, offer contracts, etc. come form specialized positions, assistants, etc. If anyone really thinks that swapping out Anthony in for Ryan and Glunn in for Molitor for the rest of the season will bring on big changes in the way things are run, I think you are kidding yourself. If fans really want change, more than just the top figurehead needs to go.
  3. I think a lot of you underestimate how big of an organization the Minnesota Twins are and what the ramifications would be canning the entire front office in the middle of a season would be. It's definitely an off-season, or at least a very late in the season move.
  4. If the Twins "broke" Arcia, what does it say about his character? He was given a chance last year, didn't play well, got hurt and then flailed in AAA all year. You would think instead of being "broken" he would have seized that opportunity, showed the team he belonged on the big club and worked his way back up. I am tired of hearing the excuses for players that the front office made them afraid, made them press, etc and forced bad results. If Arcia would have looked like the part of a "middle of the order, 30 HR bat" he wouldn't have hit under .200 and had a slugging percentage of .372 in over 300 PA in AAA last year. At some point players have to produce. I wish Oswaldo the best, but he really didn't do himself many favors the last year and a half.
  5. Actually it seems that Pablo Sandoval holds this honor.
  6. Just flipping through box scores, I can't find an instance where Molitor has run his bullpen that way that early in the game. I can't find anything like that before the 7th or 8th actually.
  7. For the first 2 rounds, I wouldn't be protecting any relievers. Each team is drafting 28 players apiece and more than likely going for upside. I protect the position players and starters. You get 3 more protections after Round 1 and 2.
  8. Unless i am looking at things wrong, Arcia started 17 games in April 2015 and almost everyday after April 10th. He hit 250/310/365, good for 2 HR a .676 OPS playing almost exclusively LF and was placed on the DL on May 4th. In that same time period, Shane Robinson played a mix of RF, CF and LF getting 42 PA, good for an OPS of .773. Escobar played in LF during 6 games in the month of April. Danny Santana played everyday at SS. I am not seeing where he was benched for Robinson and infielders. I see him starting everyday for 3+ weeks, not hitting and then hitting the disabled list. After the disabled list he went to AAA and struggled. I think the power he showed in 2014 is tainting everyone's memories about Arcia. Yes, he hit 20 HR in 372 AB. He also struck out 127 times, or 34% of the time. It was a nice show of potential. The problem is, he has not improved since then and if anything his bat has seemed to regress. He struggled mightily in AAA last year and hasn't looked like a "30 HR bat" or a "middle of the order bat" this year and is actually striking out at a higher rate. While he is still relatively young, I really can't fault the front office much for cutting ties with him.
  9. The game is the free game of the day on MLB.com for those interested!
  10. During the 2012 season Perkins hadn't reached all star game, he wasn't even put in the closers role until mid-July of 2012.
  11. I'm not trying to place blame on anyone, I am just saying looking at the 2012 team there wasn't a treasure trove of players that would bring back a net of prospects. No one could have predicted the sheer amount of injuries which directly led to regression and career lows by so many players to the 2011 team. 3 players played in at least 100 games. 2012 was a direct fallout of the perfect storm that was 2011. If people need to find solace in blaming Smith, Ryan or whoever else in the front office go for it. Realistically how much would have Doumit, Perkins and Willingham netted the Twins in trades in 2012? I have no idea how to assess Josh's value. A 33 year old poor fielding OF having a career year in the 1st year of a $21M dollar deal. Maybe a Top 200 prospect if the right team was out there? I really don't think at the time Doumit or Perkins bring back much. But to each their own.
  12. Oh I completely agree with you. More walks would be great but watching Rosario hit, there are so many near unhittable pitches he waves at or barely gets a bat on to pop up or slowly ground out. For a free swinger like him being more selective at the plate, especially early in the count, would seemingly work a lot better than strictly wanting him to take more walks. I've never deeply looked into swing rates outside the zone, but I imagine Rosario's chart would not be pretty.
  13. Liriano was traded during the season, Span was traded right after the season. Capps never pitched in the majors after the 2012 season, that should show you his value. Duensing never had any value and 2012 could be considered his worst as a pro. That leaves Morneau, who was still a former shell of himself making $14M. Josh Willingham who signed the richest FA contract in team history before the season, which kinda meant he wasn't going anywhere. Doumit, a poor catching, poor fielding 31 year old OF who at best probably would have netted a C prospect. The only player who probably would have fetched anything was Perkins, who was cheap and just coming into his own in 2012. He had good numbers at the trade deadline and had just started closing games. It's fun to look at names and scoff at the front office for not "loading up" on prospects for those big names, but in reality, there wasn't much there.
  14. This is a great statement. Working a count for a guy like Rosario could mean the difference of striking out on a ball over your head on a 1-2 count, or being selective and getting a ball in the strike zone to drive to the outfield on a 3-2 count.
  15. There's been a lot of comparing of Santana to Arcia, but no one has pointed out that DanSan has played 32 of his 35 starts this season in CF. Santana is not taking AB away from Arcia, at least not this season.
  16. Whoa, whoa, whoa. The comparison is between Swisher and Manny? Where did you pull these out? Both of those hitters walked a lot more and struck out a lot less than Arcia ever has. Swisher was a competent fielder until late in his career and Manny was one of the better RH power hitters the game has ever seen. I understand and have seen the guys potential, but this is getting out of hand.
  17. My box score says 104 pitches, which would be the 2nd most he has thrown all season.
  18. Atta boy DanSan! A 4 lead means we avoid Jepsen.....right? Right?!
  19. Max is stroking it today. Such a smooth swing!
  20. After yesterday's adventure, Shields stands with an ERA of 21.80 after 3 starts with the Whities, gone 8.2 IP, giving up 24 hits, 5 of which were HR, walking 9 batters and only striking out 5. From Chris Jaffe on Twitter: @jaffechris Last time a guy had 4 straight GS w/ 7+ RA & minimum 31 ER? Vern Kennedy, 1936-37 He will turn it around somewhat, but good lord has he been awful.
