  1. Yep, no cookie cutter way of evaluating prospects. One should really take a holistic approach. Makes you wonder whether scouting a stat line for rbi and he is a good idea, doesn't it? Oh wait.
  2. Wow, the Yankees are really goolerrrrgh. Sorry, I gagged.
  3. If this is one of those jinx threads, you're doing it wrong.

  5. Generally, it's encouraged to score with the bases loaded. Oh, you want to go a different direction with it? Oh. Um. Okay.
  6. Time out. They just intentionally walked Hicks?
  7. Clean six for E-San. Should we just call it here, or what?
  8. This whole scoring runs thing is pretty cool. I'm into it. We should do it more.
  9. Hey! Mauer doubles! Good thing someone jinxed the no hitter.
  10. Gamecast says Hicks lined out. Good contact?
  11. So we're getting no hit thus far. That's fun.
  12. I did. Granted, I figured that out about a week ago, but still.
  13. Well, no Dozier. But it's really nice that Sano's back. Let's see if he really is the difference maker.
  14. Very reasonable to me too. I'm thinking they'll keep Pelfrey in the rotation until the deadline, in case someone wants to offer something intriguing in trade. If not, then hopefully they make the Pelf-May switch right away. May is indeed being wasted.
  15. Alex Meyer kicked my dog. Also, I have no dog.
  16. That is why I absolutely do not let my kids play video games. That, and I have no kids.
  17. The Walker family may be on vacation?

I do hope you follow up on it, whether or not it embarrasses me. And I have to admit, I probably let fandom get in the way on some of these answers, but I tried to be fair.
  19. Can we take a minute and recognize Tyler Duffey? Helluva season he's got going, for a guy who mostly flies under the prospect radar. Good for him.
  20. I know it probably seems obvious, but maybe some simple explanation would be useful. Over the course of the season, the better teams score more relative to the worse teams. Generally speaking, the teams that score more are therefore likely to score first more, even if scoring first is basically a coin flip. Simply put, if you score a lot, you'll score a lot early. If you score only a little, you'll score only a little early. Therefore, assuming a normal distribution - and the hundreds of games played really does normalize these kinds of distributions - good teams score early more than bad teams. (They also score late more than bad teams. Because they just generally score more than bad teams.) So basing win probabilities on when teams score just isn't a good idea. Too much randomness for a single game, too much dependence on other factors for a whole season.
  21. Best wishes to him. I've missed seeing his impressive stats this year, but looking forward to him picking it up again next year.
  22. I really hope you're right. Just prior to the concussion, Mauer was on a first-ballot-lock trajectory. Now he's lost a lot of luster, but I said before and will say again, all he really has to do is age gracefully. He's still got a great resume.
  23. Just so we're clear, you're stating that the difference in wins that comes from batting your best hitter third instead of second is enough to get a manager fired in two years? That's some mighty chunky claim chowder there, my friend.
  24. Don't look now, but Hicks's triple slash is, as of today, eerily similar to one Mr. Joe Mauer.
