  1. Okay, here's a picture of the place that I think I was most viscerally impressed with in Ravenna. It's called the Basilica of San Vitale. It's a sixth century octagonal basilica from after the Byzantine reconquest of Italy, and it has probably the most famous and recognizable portraits (in mosaic form) of Justinian and Theodora. I hope the picture turns out. It had to be chopped down from a 51 MB raw file. If it's really small, just remember that these pictures are mosaics, not paintings. There are millions of tiny little stone pieces hanging up on these walls and ceilings, fit together just so. http://i.imgur.com/Lx4YVrM.gif And here's a link if you want to see it a bit bigger: http://i.imgur.com/Lx4YVrM.gif Also, winner!
  2. Okay, went out to dinner, but I'm back now. I'm loving this score. Some replies from a couple hours ago. I'll post a couple of pictures once I make them a reasonable size. I took 584 today. I came to Ravenna from Bologna. It was a train ride that was about an hour and ten. I'm taking up residence in Croatia for the next few months, and I'm on a weeklong swing through Italy from Budapest. Also, I wasn't wearing socks, so I can't necessarily say whether they were blown off and what that would mean to you if you were in fact wearing some. However, that does make me think about a conversation I had with a Turkish person who thought all of our prepositions were crazy. He had a point. You can have your socks blown off, and you can get yourself blown up. You can also blow your hair out or be blown down. But here's the kicker. Not a single one of these is related to, or preferable to, simply being (Edited by RiverBrian) Go Twins.
  3. Checking in from Ravenna, Italy this time. Not many bother with, or have even heard of, Ravenna. They are wrong. Ravenna is amazing, unless you hate art. And if you hate art, you are also wrong. They've got stuff here that'll knock your socks off.
  4. And I'm usually such a good speller.
  5. I'll readily admit to not having read any of this thread, but since I can't say his name without putting the word "balls" at the end, I'd say no. No trade.
  6. THIS. If you want to create a thread thread on this, please do so. Otherwise, let's move on.
  7. This may have to be put on the list of "things that only bother me," but it's Aderlin Mejia, not Aderling. Seems like I see that mistake fairly often.
  8. Interesting. Interesting. But it's also easy and fun to rag on the stiffs in the bullpen. So.... Yeah.
  9. Ha ha ha, yeah, can you even imagine that some people flirted with that idea!? *whistles and saunters away.* Seriously though, with the way Pelfrey's been pitching lately, it's becoming clear that he's coming down to earth. That said, I really have no idea why they'd choose May as the one starter to demote. What's up with that? He's too good and too important to the future. The obvious choice was Pelfrey, if only to give him a breather and get him out of the funk he's currently in. My second choice was probably Santana, though his first start back was plenty good. Then maybe a 6-man rotation? Unless they're keeping Pelfrey in the rotation because demoting him to the bullpen might look bad for his trade value, I don't see it. This only makes marginal sense if they're planning on dealing Pelfrey for whatever at the deadline.
  10. If you don't have to give up much of anything to get him, he's got plenty of upside. I don't really care about the money.
  11. Frankly, I'm surprised it's taken us this long to make a kernels-popping joke.
  12. Man, it's high time to get some fresh blood in the bullpen. Don't we have some guys in the high minors for exactly this kind of thing?
  13. Oh good, a leadoff walk from the bullpen. There's no way this could possibly end badly. (sarcasm alert)
  14. Twins cannot get a break with the bats.
  15. This Sano dude's looking pretty good though.
  16. 7 strong innings. He'll find a way to blow it in the eighth.
  17. I see you're also inoculating yourself from being called the jinx.
  18. Really not bad. He's controlled, he's not giving up hits, and one home run off of him was about as close as it could be to staying in the park. He looks like he's in pretty good form for not having played in quite a while. (Watch the wheels fall off now...)
