My great-grandfather had a joke he would tell every Thanksgiving: "What's the best way to serve turkey? Join the Turkish army." Apparently he would laugh at this joke every year. I have to wonder whether he was the only one laughing.
This is good stuff, and I think I'm on the same page with most of this. Quick question though - does Trevor May have any options left? Somehow I thought he had used his up, but I could be wrong.
This really isn't right. MLB Advanced Media is entirely owned, as a partnership, by the team owners. The blackouts have nothing to do with the owners, and everything to do with existing media contracts, plus the deeper penetration that network and cable television have as compared to streaming media.
Such a pessimist. Kidding aside, I happen to be living in Atlanta until the end of the year, and the commemoration of that time when Ron Gant lost his balance is producing, let's say, strong feelings here. Oh, and I have that bobblehead.
I think his point was that the lineup is actually better without Plouffe in it. Which I agree with. If you don't agree, that may seem like "trying to sink the manager," but to me it looked like the thrust of his post was that Plouffe is no longer a viable option, not that Molitor needs to go at all costs. Removing the temptation for a manager to play a player who makes the team worse sounds like the opposite of sinking him. It sounds like saving him from himself.
Didn't he have to retire from the Twins to go back to Japan because otherwise the Twins owned his rights? In other words, he left Twins' money on the table, but didn't necessarily leave money on the table generally. Seems to me like he's probably worth a lot more in Japan.
