  1. An AAAA pitcher, roster spot, and $3.5M off the books. Solid trade.
  2. If Turner can take a step forward this year and prove to scouts he is a true SS, then I'm in. While he doesn't bring power he brings everything else. Solid hit tool, takes walks, and has Buxton like speed. Enough said.
  3. Haha, you literally just beat me to posting it. I prefer Callis to Mayo, by a large margin when it comes to prospecting, but I like his ideology here. While the Pirates are the easy choice, like the Blue Jays next year, because they have two choices in the top 15 picks the Twins did well without any extra picks. Personal I like a few drafts better than the Twins but we had a great draft. Hopefully next years is even better!
  4. When you are 20 and look the way Sano does people will always question. MLB did a lot of tests and came back saying he was 16 when signed. I'm not worried about it at all.
  5. Solid read. Lots of good info. I'm in the minority but I have Stewart #3 and Meyer #4. I don't care that Meyer is closer. Stewart's all around package is insane.
  6. While it would never happen, before the dbacks traded for Trumbo I thought a Sano for Bradley type trade matched up well. Even though the Marlins have said they won't trade Stanton if we offered Sano that might change their mind. A package around Sano for Price couldn't be beaten. As I say these the Twins aren't going to trade Sano.
  7. Some notes that suggest Seth is on to something: Darren Wolfson: Just spike w/ Jim Pohlad. I said hypothetically, can Terry add a player at $15M/year. He said yes. Some concern is years, not $$. Nmike Berardino: I asked Terry Ryan if he'd be fine to open 2014 w/current roster. "No," he said. "We still have a lot of work to do."
  8. Mlbtraderumors: There's a growing feeling among executives that Garza will sign soon, according to Joel Sherman of the New York Post, who tweets that the D-Backs and Angelsare viewed as the favorites.
  9. While these didn't work out there are 100s that did. Scouting prospects is a lot harder than saying "hey, that Cano guy has been good with the Yankees." I'm not saying BA is the end all be all of prospects, it isn't, but they do a heck of a job. Pointing to failures, which you are going to happen more often than not, is unfair. Pomeranz still has solid stuff and could be a good change of venue type guy.
  10. Maybe the A's just liked the two pitchers they got better than most. Getting Anderson, especially for what looks like very little, would have been great but it takes two to tango.
  11. How often is Steph Drew worth 2.5-3 WAR a year? It's not just about the draft pick. It's about getting rid of a draft pick, draft budget, to sign an often injured player. Heck, even if he didn't have the draft pick connected to him I wouldn't want the Twins to sign him at 3/30+.
  12. Pass. Injury prone, costs a draft pick, and will be over payed. If you are willing to give up a draft pick and over pay someone go for a better player.
  13. Whom ever is on top gets the blame rightfully so or not. Bill Smith didn't do a good job but so didn't a lot of other people. To drop off as fast as we did there had to be a perfect storm of screw ups. Drafting, trading, resigning, and player development.
  14. While they say they are willing to trade either their asking price, to me, sounds like they won't. ESPN's Jayson Spark tweeted: "That the only way the Phillies would move Hamels or Lee would be in a "win-win" situation in which they receivea huge return and shed the entirety of the remaining salary. In other words, a trade is unlikely." If we were serious about trying to get either we would have to eat the full salary and give up a lot more than Gibson/Berrios.
  15. The Philly's are currently in the market for pitching so I doubt they trade either of those pitchers. If they do they will want a heck of a lot more than that if you take into account their demands for Lee at the trade deadline last year. Only 4+ WAR pitcher on the market is Price and he will cost either Sano or Buxton.
  16. Apparently the Twins are willing to give a multi year deal to Raja via Wolfson. Not a fan but especially not a fan on a multi year deal.
  17. Outside of Arroyo there were not a lot of Twins rumors today. Heck, after the abnormally active weeks heading up to the Winter Meetings it would surprise me if this is a very boring week.
  18. Seeing this is the never happening thread.... Dbacks are looking for an impact bat and we need pitching. Towers has shot down any talks about trading Bradley but today he said it would be "very, very unlike." Which means he would at least listen. Seeing we are playing make believe how about this: Archie and Didi for Sano+ type of trade? Both get impact young players at positions of need. Don't get me wrong, it will never happen, but fun talk to at least talk about it.
  19. I wouldn't want to trade Meyer for Price, not because of value, but because we need both in our pitching rotation. If we already had one top of the rotation starter and just needed an ace? Heck yeah. Price, Nolasco, Gibson, Hughes, Correia is a solid rotation. Price, Meyer, Nolassco, Gibson, Hughes is a nasty rotation.
  20. Jim Callis mentioned if Thorpe was in the upcoming draft, which is a much better draft than the last two, we would profile as a first rounder. Lefties with his kind of stuff don't grow on trees. Obviously any prospect can fail. Same for big leaguers who can't stay healthy. Just saying don't discount him because he is young.
  21. So back to David price..... We are not getting Price without one of our top prospects. Period. The real question is are you willing to give up one of Buxton, Sano, or Meyer and 2-3 more prospects? Honestly I might do Sano+ if the Twins were one pitcher away and Price would sign an extension but we aren't.
  22. People do realize that Mr.Anderson has only started 24 games in the past 3 years and has only thrown a total of 162.3 innings in that time span? I'm all for trading for him but he is what he is, a lottery ticket. Suggesting giving up big time prospects for him is nuts.
  23. Short answer: no. Long answer: heck no. The Rays are not going to give Price away. You have to give quality to get quality.
  24. Pretty much this. Anderson would be a great lottery ticket but you buy lottery tickets because they are cheap. Everything depends on the asking cost.
  25. Great article Seth. Definitely one of my favorite reads.
